  • Patent number: 6519997
Abstract: Automatic feeding blind rivet guns and method facilitating rapid installation of blind rivets with good freedom of movement of the operator. The blind rivet guns receive a carrier holding a substantial plurality of blind rivets in close side by side proximity and automatically sequentially loads and sets the blind rivets in response to operator control. The blind rivets are preferably supplied on an inexpensive disposable plastic carrier ready for use with the rivet installation gun. The installation gun itself is pneumatically powered, though other sources of power, such as electrical power, could be used.

Inner edges (13a) of the slits (13) facing one another and disposed in and from the regions' inlet sides are spaced also the same distance B as the diameter d.sub.1 so that each screw can take a correct position on and perpendicular to the belt, thus enabling it to be loaded with the screws smoothly and efficiently.

  • Patent number: 5836732
Abstract: The present invention is a fastener assembly including a row of fasteners maintained in position by a carrier. The carrier includes a plurality of adjacent sleeves, each of which includes an upper breakable portion, a middle wall portion, and a lower breakable portion. When a fastener is driven into a work piece, the upper and middle portions of the fastener sleeve break away and the lower portion breaks into fragments, so that no residual sleeve parts remain with the fastener. This is accomplished by forming the carrier from a mixture of a stiff polyolefin material and a particulate filler to impart the necessary brittleness to the carrier sleeves. Also, the lower portion of the sleeve includes fragmentable tabs joined at wall junctions which are structurally weaker than the tabs, to facilitate fragmentation between the tabs.

  • Patent number: 5234104
Abstract: A carrier tape system includes an elongated base strip and an elongated cover strip both formed of a plastic film material. The cover strip is substantially coextensive in length with the base strip. The cover strip has a top surface and opposed sidewalls extending downwardly from the top surface. The opposed sidewalls are spaced apart from each other a distance substantially equal to the width of the base strip. A cover strip further includes retaining means formed integrally therewith for mechanically engaging and holding down thin component parts seated in cavities formed in the base strip. The retaining means is comprised of a pair of spaced apart rail members which are formed coextensive with the cover strip extending longitudinally to the sidewalls and projecting downwardly and outwardly from the top surface thereof. The rail members are flared outwardly at a slight angle toward the respective opposed sidewalls.

The cover strip is substantially coextensive in length with the base strip. The cover strip has a top surface and opposed sidewalls extending downwardly from the top surface. The opposed sidewalls are laterally spaced apart from each other a distance substantially equal to the width of the base strip. The cover strip further includes retaining means formed integrally therewith for mechanically engaging and holding down thin component parts seated within cavities formed within the base strip. The retaining means is comprised of either a ridge or a pair of laterally spaced apart rail members which are formed coextensive with the cover strip and which extend longitudinally, parallel to the sidewalls and which project downwardly from the top surface thereof.

  • Patent number: 5096061
Abstract: A tape for holding nails has a side wall and upper and lower walls extending from both longitudinal edges of the side wall to the same side. The upper wall is formed with notches which open to the longitudinal side edge of the upper wall to hold nail shanks at their upper part near their heads. A fold-back wall is integral with the lower wall and folded back so as to oppose the top surface of the lower wall. The lower wall and the fold-back wall are formed with notches which open to the fold-back edge between the lower wall and the fold-back wall to hold the nail shanks at the lower part neat their tips. Instead of providing the fold-back wall, the top surface of the lower wall may be partially thickened at least at inner end portions of the notches.

  • Patent number: 5069340
Abstract: In a strip of collated fasteners, each having a shank and a head, a carrier molded from a polymeric material has a sleeve for each fastener. Each sleeve has an annular portion and a breakable portion, which breaks into two segments as the fastener gripped by such sleeve is driven. The breakable portion, which is notched at one end, has a pair of similar, laterally opposed, outwardly opening, continuously curved concave recesses with open windows, from which portions of the fastener shank emerges. In a fastener-guiding tool, parallel ribs of a guiding device fit into such recesses, into close proximity with the emerging portions, so as to guide the strip between such ribs.

  • Patent number: 4932821
Abstract: A nail retaining strip for feeding nails into a fastening element driving tool where the nails are driven individually out of the tool by a drive piston includes guide bushings for the nails. Adjacent guide bushings are separably interconnected by connecting webs. The guide bushing extends in the axial direction of the nail shank and has axially and circumferentially extending circular guide surfaces for supporting the nails within the muzzle bore of the driving tool. The connecting webs extend radially outwardly from the guide surfaces so that the guide surfaces on adjacent guide bushings are in spaced relation. The connecting webs retain the nails in the axial direction of the muzzle bore by engagement in a receiving recess in the bore located opposite a passage through which the nails are inserted into the bore. Such axial retention permits complete utilization of the nail strip down to and including the last nail.
