  • Patent number: 10189624
Abstract: The disclosure relates to forming shaped thermoplastic articles having smooth peripheries. Many thermoplastic articles have sharp edges formed upon molding or cutting the article from a feedstock sheet. Such sharp edges can damage thin plastic films or flesh which they contact, and smoothing the edges is desirable. Described herein are methods of forming a smooth periphery for such sharp-edged articles by rolling over the sharp edge. The smoothing operation is performed by forming a deflectable flange including a bend region separated from the potentially sharp peripheral edge by a spacer, deflecting a portion of the deflectable flange, and softening at least one bent portion of the deflectable flange to yield a smooth periphery upon cooling.

  • Patent number: 10131023
Abstract: The described embodiments relate to adjustable fixtures. A number of adjustable length cylindrical pins can be utilized to form a conformal support structure in accordance with a workpiece having any number of variations. At least three fixed length pins having heights lower than the adjustable length pins, can be interspersed with the adjustable length cylindrical pins to define an orientation at which the workpiece is held. Because the adjustable length pins have an uncompressed height greater than the fixed length pins, each of the adjustable length pins can be compressed in accordance with a bottom surface of the workpiece when the workpiece is pressed against the fixed length pin. In this way a conformal support structure can be formed that supports the workpiece during a machining operation.

  • Patent number: 9896234
Abstract: A corrugated paperboard wraparound blank for forming a shipping case is provided, including five wall panels and four sets of end flaps connected via fold lines, at least two sets of stacking tabs, and at least two corresponding sets of receiving slots for receiving the stacking tabs. The wraparound blank is formed of a heavier material than a conventional blank, which would typically be difficult for automatic packaging equipment to form into a case, but the fold lines are creased with optional perforations or scoring. An optional modification aiding folding is presented for conventional case packers. The heavier fiberboard better supports and protects an inner product, such as cartons or paper bottles of liquids and reduces damage to the cap and neck. The heavier material in combination with the stacking tabs allows an increase in stacking height, thereby reducing transportation costs.

  • Patent number: 6514466
Abstract: A reusable pipette-tip holder that doubles the density of the number of pipette tips able to be stored within a single container, while conserving the total amount of material, packaging and storage space. The invention creates a rigid box by the joining, bottom to bottom, of two pipette-racks each having a standard matrix of pipette-receiving holes. The new design permits pipettes to be inserted from both the top and bottom of the box, because the centerline spacing of the rows of pipette-receiving holes on the top and bottom surfaces is offset with respect to each other. Rows of pipette tips from one side of the container nest between the free space in adjacent rows of tips inserted from the other side of the container.

  • Patent number: 6089373
Abstract: An open-topped container (which may be lidded) is generally rectangular, having long sides (12) and short sides (14). The outer surfaces of the walls (12, 14) are provided with formations, at locations (20), which may engage formations on an adjacent like container to limit relative vertical movement of the containers and thus improve stability of stacks, when stacks are placed alongside each other.

  • Patent number: 5960982
Abstract: A combined plate and cup holder incorporates an integral cup holder, the bottom surface of which serves as a convenient means of holding the plate. Access to the bottom surface of the cup holder is enhanced with a raised hand passthrough element connecting the rim of the plate to the cup holder, which also serves to lower the center of gravity of the plate with respect to the diner's hand, thereby facilitating the balance of the plate on the diner's hand and increasing security and comfort. The lower surfaces of the plate and cup holder are substantially coplanar, allowing the plate to rest stably on a flat surface. The cupholder extends above the rim of the plate, providing increased stability for a cup or beverage can. Both full-size and small embodiments of the buffet plate are presented, with the full-size plate having the cupholder positioned near the center of the plate for improved comfort and balance.
