Abstract: A bundle of Margach ingots being self-skidded on platform ingots having legs at each end that provide for insertion of a lift fork between the legs and below the main body of the ingots, said body intermediate its end being weakened at some point for easy breaking into two half ingots, said ends being provided with notches or other means to feed each half ingot on a chain feeder into a molten bath. The bundles must be tied with wire (rather than conventional straps) to fit tightly into the notches on first applying same to avoid later slippage into the notch at a critical time.
Abstract: Plastic netting, particularly for wrapping pallet loads, securely to hold the load on the pallet without heat-shrinking of the netting and providing for ventilation of the load, i.e., egress of air from the load or ingress of air to the load; a method of wrapping the load with such netting for such purpose; and the resultant wrapped pallet load.
Abstract: In a container of the kind having an impermeable cover which is sealed to a base, air then being evacuated from the region between the cover and the base, an improved seal is provided for use with a rigid cover. The periphery of the cover fits into an endless groove or channel on the base, a temporary seal is then effected by inflating an endless tube or tubes in the groove and air is then evacuated from within the container so that the cover is drawn down onto an elastomeric strip in the base of the groove to effect a further seal which may hold even if pressure falls in the inflated tube or tubes.
Abstract: A bundle for shipping and the storage of a plurality of elongated pipe lengths of a common size arranged in tiers is disclosed in which the longitudinal axes of the pipes in the bundle are disposed parallel to an elongated base formed of spaced-apart transverse sleepers. The pipes in each tier are separated by divider blocks standing on the sleepers and separating overlying sleepers from those there-below a distance substantially equal to or greater than the pipe diameter. Strapping encircles the sleepers and the dividers and the pipe therebetween to secure the bundle in a flexible manner throughout its length to accommodate the rigors of hoisting and transporting its storage in multiple bundles and on uneven supporting surfaces.
Abstract: A returnable shipping container includes top and bottom closure members each having inner indentations and an outer affixed metal member forming a peripheral slot with collapsible first and second body members formed to fit into the bottom and top slots and adjoining edges with aligned notches and tabs. A stabilizing insert fits into the indentations of the top and bottom closure members and the notches of the first and second body members.
Abstract: A capping device for use in packing roll-like articles wound up on a core comprising a polygonal face wall for protecting the end surface of a roll-like article, a side wall provided around said face wall for protecting the edge of the roll-like article, and a protrusion to be connected to the core of the roll-like article projecting from the center of said face wall into a space surrounded by said side wall.
Abstract: An apparatus for supporting and securing objects thereon, the support being a base member with means on the top side thereof for receiving an object and strapping means attached to the bottom thereof disposed to extend around the object and secure it thereto. The base member is comprised of a conduit member having disposed at preselected portiions therein resilient foam materials which maintains the base member in a preselected configuration and supports and object thereon.
Abstract: Apparatus for storage and transport of temperature sensitive goods comprises a load carrier pallet for supporting the goods, an upper insulating cover for covering the goods and the upper edge of the pallet, a lower cover enclosing the pallet and the lower part of the upper cover, and a sealing member between the facing surfaces of the upper and lower covers. A controllable arrangement for supplying a gaseous cooling medium is carried by the upper cover, whereby a blocking gas layer of cooling medium is maintainable around the goods. The sealing member preferably is gas permeable, and may comprise a Velcro fastener. Rubber bands or the like may be used also to connect the upper and lower covers. At least the upper cover is a laminated structure.
