  • Patent number: 8231005
Abstract: A container that provides support structure and environmental control means including, for example, minimal contact with a wafer or reticle contained therein that cooperates with wafer or reticle to provide a diffusion barrier mitigates against particles settling on a face of the wafer or reticle. The container includes a base having a flat, polished surface with protrusions upon which the wafer or reticle rests. The protrusions are of a geometry, such as a sphere, that imparts minimum contact with the wafer or reticle and suspends the wafer or reticle over the base, providing a gap therebetween. The gap isolates the wafer or reticle from the flat, polished surface of the base, but is dimensioned to inhibit migration of particles into the gap, thereby preventing contamination of sensitive surfaces of the wafer or reticle. Diffusion filters provide pressure equalization without filter media. Moveable reticle pins on the top cover provide reticle restraint.

Abstract: A continuously electrically-conductive container contains an electrically-insulating support for holding an electric-field-sensitive article, such as a reticle, so that the article is shielded from external electric fields and is not in electrical contact with a conductive container wall. A SMIF pod comprises an electrically conductive container for holding an electric-field-sensitive article. A system has boundary walls that form a chamber for a controlled environment. The system includes a load port for receiving a SMIF pod and an end effector made of insulating material for moving a field-sensitive article within the chamber to and from the SMIF pod. An ionizer neutralizes electric charges on the field-sensitive article.

  • Patent number: 7584851
Abstract: A shipping container includes a main insert, a top cover and a cardboard or corrugated shell. The container is especially adapted for securing computer disk drives therein. Potential damage to the disk drives is minimized by isolating movement of the disk drives within the container. Each drive is loaded within a compartment defined by surrounding dividers formed on both the top cover and main insert. The overall container height is minimized by incorporating recesses in the inserts that can increase the effective height of exterior cushioning ribs thus reducing the thickness of the floorboard or base member. The incorporation of the recesses results in formation of relatively thin web sections that interconnect base portions of the cushioning ribs to base portions of the dividers.

Abstract: A method and article of manufacture for protecting a device from damage caused by physical shocks during shipment, handling, and use of the device are disclosed. A shock-absorbing container is provided with a foam material provided around the device when it is placed in the container. An opening in the container is aligned with respect to the device so as to expose a physical interface of a bay to the physical interface of the device in the container. The device and container are proportioned so that when the container, containing the device, is slid into a bay of a device array or data processing system, the physical interface directly connects with a mating physical interface in the bay without requiring an interposer between the physical interface of the device and the physical interface of the array or data processing system.
