  • Patent number: 5628912
Abstract: A method and apparatus for efficiently separating solids from liquid/solid slurries are disclosed. The slurry to be separated is retainably placed within a container having one or more lift paddles secured within its inner cavity. The container is supported for rotation about an axis and has drive means for slowly rotating the container. As the container rotates, the lift paddles lift a portion of the retained slurry, allowing the liquid portion to fall back into the primary slurry pool to be separated, and lifting the solids toward the top of the rotation path of the paddles. The separated solids slide by gravity off of the lift paddles as they approach the top of their rotation paths and into a collection hopper and transport means that carry them away from the container. The liquids returned to the primary retained slurry within the container assist in washing the slurry for facilitating solids separation without required increase in the retained slurry volume.

  • Patent number: 5172813
Abstract: A method and apparatus for treating a fiber suspension to thicken or screen it. The suspension is fed to the gap between a filter surface and a counter member, and accepts flow through openings in the filter surface. Rejects continue along the filter surface to a rejects outlet. Relative movement, preferably relative rotation, is effected between the filter surface and counter member. The suspension at the filter surface is coarser and/or of higher solids concentration than the accepts. This coarser suspension is subjected to a force component by a protrusion on the counter member surface that tends to move it away from the filter surface, in a guided manner (between the protrusion and a guide plate). A second protrusion in the form of a backwardly inclined plate forces fresh suspension toward the filter surface to take the place of the suspension just moved away from the surface.

Reject which does not pass through the screen drum (2) is removed through a reject discharge opening (5) at the other end of the screen drum. For transferring the reject from the surface of the screen drum (2) to the reject discharge end, the surface of the blades (10) is on the screen drum side provided with grooves (11) so inclined that the front end of the groove (11) is closer to the pulp input than the rearmost end of the same groove (11). Thereby each groove (11) in the blades (10) causes the reject to be transferred towards the reject discharge opening (5).

Abstract: A screen plate and method of making a screen plate for the pressure screening of papermaking stock in pressure screening apparatus includes slots which have been cut therethrough by a machining laser beam focused at the inlet side of the plate, to provide slots with nearly straight walls with minimum taper, and which are recast and have a "glassy" appearance by reason of the melting and resolidification of the immediate wall surface, to provide a low friction path for the stock. Straight, curved and inclined or slanted slots are disclosed including slots which are at a diagonal to the axis of the cylinder. Slots or openings are disclosed which are inclined to a radius line therethrough both with and against the direction of flow of the stock along the inlet surface. Wear bars are applied to the plate for coaction with the rotating foils on the screening apparatus, in the form of strips of weld material of high hardness applied directly to the plate.
