  • Patent number: 4391702
Abstract: A method for classifying wet coal for obtaining coal charges suitable for use in a coke oven comprising classifying the wet coal directly in a cylindrical screen which rotates and revolves around an eccentric rotation shaft while blowing a high pressure gas stream to the screen to eliminate adhesion of the wet coal particles to the screen. The method enables a continuous and consistent classification of wet coals without the clogging of the screen and the dust pollution. The cokes obtained by dry distillation of the coal classified by the present method show high quality.

  • Patent number: 4305110
Abstract: An automatic cleaning system is provided for a mud separator apparatus. Water and mud inputs to a mud pump feeding the separator are respectively controlled by two butterfly valves ganged for cooperation, and operated by a single valve actuator motor. When the mud separator is shut off, a time delay relay is actuated which keeps the mud separator rotor motor on line during a predetermined flush cycle. The valve actuator opens the water valve, and closes the mud valve, permitting the separator to be flushed with water. Activating the start button returns the valve actuator to the position in which the mud valve is open and the water valve is closed, thereby returning the apparatus to the mud separation cycle.

  • Patent number: 4178238
Abstract: Apparatus for use with extremely low-grade aggregate ore, for deriving a concentrate comprised of metal-bearing ore particles having densities within a predetermined range. The apparatus is in the form of a mobile, self-sustained system including a vehicle trailer for horizontal transport and elevated operational support, plus an integral power system capable of supplying the total energy requirements of the apparatus. Two types of particle size separation are applied, followed by compaction and particle density separation. Two density separation areas are provided to effect both coarse and fine gravitational shaving actions, and dual adjustment controls are also provided to vary the shaving force intensity to derive the concentrate independently of changes in the particular characteristics of the aggregate being processed. The apparatus includes outer and inner cylindrical chambers concentrically mounted on the trailer so as to be tiltable and rotatable.

  • Patent number: 4159242
Abstract: An apparatus for separating coarse and fine particles of intermediate specific gravity from an aggregate containing said particles of intermediate specific gravity as well as fine and coarse particles of higher specific gravity by use of a liquid of lesser specific gravity than any of said particles, which apparatus includes a pair of inclined, axially rotating, concentrically disposed helical ribbon flights separately secured within an annular housing such that the rotating action of said flights transports the fine and coarse particles of heavier specific gravity out of the flowing aggregate slurry. The fluid is then drained from the intermediate specific gravity particles passing with the fluid through the lower end of the annular housing in a screened cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4135388
Abstract: A fractionating apparatus under microprocessor control including a tumbler having a series of screens of progressively larger openings around its periphery. A sample of particulate material is passed successively through each of the screens by incremental rotation of the tumbler. To aid in classifying the fractions, a spray of fluid is projected against the screens and a rocking motion is imparted to the tumbler. The smallest fraction, not being retained, is entrained in a moving stream of fluid and passed directly to a porous weighing member. When this entire fraction is deposited and weighed, the next larger fraction is accumulated in the weighing member. These individual weights and their sum are recorded and from them size percentages are computed.

  • Patent number: 4098685
Abstract: Lead battery components such as metallic grids and paste are fed into a tumbling drum which has inlet and outlet ends and an intermediate region in which there are screens for the fine particles of paste to discharge to the exterior of the drum. Water is sprayed onto the plates in the drum. A shroud or housing surrounds the region of the drum containing the screens. Means are provided to create subatmospheric air pressure in the shroud and, consequently, in the drum. The slurry of paste particles is collected in a tank which is integral with the bottom of the shroud. The slurry is passed through a cyclone separator and the water extracted by the separator is recirculated through the lines which supply the spray nozzles. All openings in the drum are subjected to subatmospheric pressure.

  • Patent number: 4075104
Abstract: A device for separating in a continuous process particles such as heavy ml particles consisting of fuel and/or breeder materials for core reactors, from a first liquid and introducing the separated particles into a second liquid. The device comprises a screen in the form of a movable endless belt or drum over which ends a feeding line conveying the first liquid containing the particles to be separated onto the endless screen. While the particles are retained on the surface of the moving screen journalled in a housing, the first liquid passes through the screen into a catching funnel and from there to a discharge, the catching funnel being arranged in the housing. In the lower portion of the housing and in contact with the outer screen surfaces is a second liquid which takes off from the outside of the screen the particles deposited onto the screen.
