    Abstract: An interior wedge wire drum screen is mounted wholly within an exterior drum screen of narrower wedge wire spacing, and both are mounted to a frame and caused to rotate about a common central axis. One end of the outer drum is open and the other is closed by a disc-shaped drum head. The inner drum has an open end which is spaced inward of the open end of the outer drum. The waste water is presented to the surface of the inner drum screen by a waste water infeed which employs a vertical column. The column extends upwardly of an inlet and has a gradually increasing cross-section for reducing the flow of velocity of the waste water. A horizontal trough extends along the axis defined by the drums and communicates between the top of the column and a tray. The edges of the tray terminate in weirs which are parallel to the sides of the inner drum. Water flows in a smooth sheet over a weir to impact the sides of the inner screen with low velocity.

    Abstract: A cylindrical classifier includes a first rotating cylinder having a surface composed of parallel separator rods or tubes that extend along the length of the cylinder. The tubes or rods are spaced from each other to prevent oversized objects from passing between them. Material to be classified is fed to the interior of the cylinder. As the cylinder rotates, objects of the desired size and smaller objects pass between the spaced separator rods and exit the cylinder. The first cylinder is surrounded by a second coaxial cylinder so that there is a space between the first and second cylinders. The outer cylinder has a separating screen which prevents objects of a desired size from passing through.

    Abstract: A municipal solid waste material sorting system comprises a multi-stage trommel having a relatively short first stage section with relatively small holes for screening out grit, dirt, coins, small stones and the like, a second substantially longer second stage section for screening out beverage bottles, metal cans, and other waste materials of similar size and a third stage relatively short section for screening out large objects such as half gallon and gallon plastic, metal and glass containers. The respective screened municipal solid waste fractions from each of the three trommel sections are advantageously handled in respective handling streams. Materials screened in the first stage section of the trommel may be further classified as by a vibrative air table-specific gravity device to recover useful materials, such as glass cullet and coins. Materials screened in the second stage of the trommel may be further screened in a two-section disk screening and air classification arrangement.

    Abstract: A rotatable wood chip thickness classifying device. The apparatus includes two coaxial, spaced sets of apertured discs, each set defining a drum. The interdisc spacing of each drum is uniform, each drum having a different interdisc spacing from the other drum. For each set of discs, the inside diameter of adjacent discs alternates. Wood chips are fed into the interior of the first drum, this drum having a typical disc interspacing of 2 mm. The common axis of drum rotation is slightly tilted to the horizontal and chips of less than 2 mm fall through the interdisc openings of the first drum. The remainder of the chips pass to the interior of the second drum, typically of 8 mm interdisc spacing. Chips less than 8 mm fall through the interdisc openings of the second drum. The alternation of inside disc diameters, for each drum, yields a chip tumbling effect to thereby inhibit an elongated chip, of a diameter of less than 2 mm for example, from straddling the 2 mm openings and not falling therethrough.

    Abstract: A grain cleaner and method for cleaning grain is the subject of the present invention. A single rotatable drum presents a substantially continuous screen surface of increasing mesh size from one end to another with the drum having an inlet end and an outlet end. A plurality of baffles are disposed in spaced apart relationship along the periphery of and along the length of the screen surface of the drum for retarding the flow of material therethrough. Retaining means is provided in the vicinity of the outlet end of the drum for retarding the flow of foreign material fromthe drum while accommodating the eventual passage of foreign material out of the drum.     Abstract: An elongated drum rotatable about its horizontal longitudinal axis is surrounded by a sequence of cylindrical screens having different size mesh openings. A burner is located at one end of the drum. A feeder delivers stone chips into the end of the drum opposite the burner, and another feeder delivers used paving asphalt into the end of the drum at which the burner is located. The asphalt feeder has an elbow which passes through the burner flame and an outlet located outside the flame. Openings at the burner end of the drum provide communication between the interior of the drum and an annular space between the drum and the screens. A chimney for discharging dust is located at the stone chips feeder end of the drum.

    Abstract: A machine for cleaning and sorting shellfish into a predetermined range includes an inner drum connected to a central shaft and formed with a plurality of relatively large openings dimensioned to allow shellfish falling within the predetermined range to pass therethrough. The contents of a plow or dredge are fed into an inlet end of this inner drum and the contents which are larger than the desired range of sizes for the shellfish are retained within the drum. An outer drum is spaced in surrounding relation about the inner drum has a plurality of smaller openings sized to retain shellfish within the predetermined range. These smaller openings include circular openings allowing shellfish smaller than the predetermined range to fall from the outer drum, and longitudinal openings located downstream from the circular openings for allowing half shells from the shellfish within the predetermined range to fall from the drum.

    Abstract: A process for the dewatering and particle classification of solids from suspensions, e.g. coal from a slurry in which the coal is transported, makes use of a dewatering centrifuge having two frustoconical centrifuge drum sections of different inclinations such that in a first filtering zone the particles are preliminarily dewatered and then pass by automigration to the next centrifuge drum at which further dewatering takes place. The suspension on the first sieve surface forms a thin layer classification zone having a thickness up to 5 mm and in which the coarse fraction is retained while the fine fraction is passed. The coarse fraction automigrates to the next sieve surface where it is dewatered and the fine fraction separated out in the thin layer classifying zone is then filtered under pressure in a subsequent stage.

A pipe fixed to the housing traverses an end plate of the first portion opposite the base plate for rotatably supporting the filter body at one end and for feeding to the first portion material to be filtered or cleaned, while the tube is provided with an opening spaced from the base plate of the first portion for dispensing treated material.
