  • Patent number: 5318184
Abstract: A sludge drying system using exhaust air from a furnace in a direct heat, rotary drum dryer to simultaneously dry and pelletize the sludge. The dried sludge particles exiting the dryer is entrained in the exhaust air. The sludge particles are separated from the exhaust air and then classified according to size. The under sized particles are recycled back to a mixer for mixing with incoming wet sludge. The oversized particles are conveyed to a crusher or mill for reducing the oversized particles down to the desired product size. The medium-sized particles can be selectively directed to be recycled with the undersized particles or collected as product. The exhaust air is treated in a treatment section, and then divided into two exhaust air streams or portions. A first portion of the exhaust air is discharged into the environment, while the second, larger portion of the exhaust air is recycled back to the furnace to be used to dry the sludge in the drier.

  • Patent number: 5219078
Abstract: A material separating apparatus and method which comprises a frame of a pair of spaced apart generally downwardly sloping, upper and lower vibratory screening decks within the frame, the upper screening deck comprising a plurality of comb-like elements, which are generally parallel, straight finger elements removably extending from a transverse bracket support and onto which finger elements a feed material is discharged to be separated into a coarse material and a finer material. A lower deck comprises a plurality of comb-like elements having a plurality of transverse cross members and a plurality of downwardly extending, small diameter finger elements extending therefrom, the finger elements being of greater plurality and of smaller diameter than the finger elements of the upper screening assembly, and downwardly angled so as to provide for the separating and sizing of feed material falling from the upper screening deck onto the lower screening deck.

  • Patent number: 5137621
Abstract: A wood chip screen system which includes a gyratory screen apparatus (10) and a disk screen (12). The gyratory system apparatus includes a top screen element (14) and a lower screen (16). The inflow end of the disk screen (12) is immediately adjacent the outflow end of the top screen element (14), while the lower screen element (16) underlies the disk screen (12) for a substantial distance. The size of the openings in the top screen element (14) may be changed by the operator to optimize the operation of the system. The openings in top screen element (14) may also vary along its length. The system produces chips within the acceptable size range, chips which are below the acceptable size range (pin chips and fines), and over-thick chips, which are subsequently typically transmitted to a chip size reduction apparatus such as a slicer.

  • Patent number: 5085324
Abstract: A screen formed of a screen frame (10) with screen cloth elements (11) mounted after each other. The screen cloth elements (11) are fixed in the screen frame by snap lock (16, 17; 18). One part (16, 17) of the snap lock is integrally formed with the screen cloth element (11) and arranged adjacent one end thereof. The other part (18) of the snap lock is a thickened portion at the upper edge of a supporting element (19) in the screen frame (10). The opposite end of the screen cloth element rests on a projecting abutment surface (20) on the supporting element (19) and is clamped between this abutment surface and a projecting edge portion (22) of the preceding screen cloth element.

  • Patent number: 5076921
Abstract: A vibratory filtering screen assembly comprises an upwardly inclined member (12) on which is mounted the main filtering screen (14). At the exit (16) of the main screen is a secondary screen module (20) comprising a plurality of transverse supports (22) of rectangular section on which is mounted a screen (24) held in position by a silicon beading (26). Surrounding the secondary screen is a perimeter border or dam (28) for containing the discharge which is passed on to the secondary screen. In operation slurry is fed onto the main screen (12) where vibration passes it to exit (16). Wet solids components of the slurry drop into the secondary screen (20) where the vibration continues to dry out the solid particles, waste liquid being diverted away by a plate (30).

  • Patent number: 5045182
Abstract: Apparatus for removing debris from granular material includes a set of scalper assemblies and striker assemblies, which are disposed between an inlet and an outlet, and which are interconnected by a mechanical system to help urge the flow of the material through the housing to the outlet. The scalper assemblies are disposed on a set of frames covered with removable screens so that the flow of material falling against the scalper screens, cascades down the screens to form a flowing sheet of material, which falls off of the terminal end of the frame. The scalper screens are tiered and portions thereof are raised and dropped to help urge the larger debris within the granular material downwardly across the scalper screen towards its terminal end, while concurrently permitting the smaller granular material disposed thereon to fall through the screen meshings.

  • Patent number: 4732670
Abstract: An improved classifying apparatus and assembly for the tensioning of vibratory screens includes a rigid frame, a pair of classifying screens in the frame and means for tensioning the screens. The improvement in the means for tensioning the screens includes a stationary anchor at one end of the screens and elongate rotatable elements adjacent the other ends of the screens. Levers are mounted to the ends of the rotatable elements outside of the frame and a tensioning cable extends between the levers. A tensioning member is positioned in the cable which, when adjusted, rotates the rotatable elements to simultaneously and uniformly adjust the tension on the screens.

  • Patent number: 4693379
Abstract: A screening apparatus, particularly for screening valuable materials, domestic garbage, industrial garbage, bulky garbage, dry garbage, wet garbage, compost and/or problematic and dangerous materials, including inclined, open-ended bars capable of oscillatory movement arranged in a transport direction and forming at least two bar grating screens forming a stepped arrangement of bar grating screens with one screen located behind the other in the transport direction. The bar grating screens have bars that are tapered in the transport direction. The apparatus further includes an inlet portion and a preliminary distributor path for feeding in material upstream of at least the upper bar grating screen of the stepped arrangement. A screen frame accommodates the bar grating screens, the inlet portion and the preliminary distributor path. • Patent number: 4576765
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are provided for separating liquid from small spheres, for example spheres formed by gel precipitation. The apparatus comprises sloping screening decks (12, 14), arranged in stepped relationship so that spheres tumble down onto the lower screening deck (14) after passing along the upper screening deck (12), each screening deck comprising a large number of upright plates (30, 60) spaced apart from each other and extending in the direction of slope, so that the liquid drains down between the plates. Alternate plates might be replaced by rods when separating extremely small spheres from a liquid. The apparatus has no moving parts, and even after inflow of the liquid stops, the spheres still continue to pass through the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4430211
Abstract: The invention provides a screening arrangement including a screen deck constituted by a non-stretchable, flexible screen cloth material defining a feed end and a discharge end. The feed end and discharge end are secured to mounting formations associated with a frame and the association is such that in use the screen deck may be reciprocated between a taut state and a slack state. The screen deck is located at an angle to the horizontal sloping downwardly from the feed end to the discharge end. The arrangement of the present invention has a high resistance against blinding of the screen deck.
