Abstract: An apparatus for separating fine particles from an incoming stream of solid particles has a chute with openings that interface with respective inlets of a plenum. The incoming stream of solid particles enters the top of the chute. Nozzles direct gas jets into the chute transversely to the incoming stream of solid particles toward the openings. The gas jets blow the fine particles from the stream through the openings into the plenum. The remaining solid particles fall under gravity and exit the chute for further processing or disposal. The fine particles pass through the plenum under gravity and with the gas flow, exiting the plenum for disposal or further processing.

  • Patent number: 7104403
Abstract: A two-stage static air classifier has a feed duct through which particles of a granular mixture fall. A classifying louver plate having fins forming upwardly inclined classifying channels is fitted into a side opening in the feed duct. Particles of a set size are drawn by air suction through the classifying channels in the first stage. A separator box having an inlet connected to the outlet of the classifying channels collects the separated particles in a second stage as the entrained particles fall by gravity to the bottom of the separator box while the air streams drawing the particles through the classifying channels pass out the top end of the box. Adjustable baffle plates transversely extending through the box permit control of the quantity of fines collected with the particles at the separator box bottom. Size of the collected particles is determined by the speed of a fan at the top outlet of the separator box.

Abstract: In order to make it possible for an inhomogeneous residue generated in a pyrolysis plant to be separated continuously and in as fully graded a way as possible, specially selected components are combined with one anther in an advantageous configuration. An essential element of the plant is the separation of a coarse residue in a coarse screen and the subsequent separation of the remaining residue in a zigzag separator into a light residue and a heavy residue. By use of the plant, in particular, the carbon-containing constituents are separated from the remaining residue. • Patent number: 6133044
Abstract: A droplet forming flow cytometer system allows high speed processing without the need for high oscillator drive powers through the inclusion of an oscillator or piezoelectric crystal such as within the nozzle volume or otherwise unidirectionally coupled to the sheath fluid. The nozzle container continuously converges so as to amplify unidirectional oscillations which are transmitted as pressure waves through the nozzle volume to the nozzle exit so as to form droplets from the fluid jet. The oscillator is directionally isolated so as to avoid moving the entire nozzle container so as to create only pressure waves within the sheath fluid. A variation in substance concentration is achieved through a movable substance introduction port which is positioned within a convergence zone to vary the relative concentration of substance to sheath fluid while still maintaining optimal laminar flow conditions. This variation may be automatically controlled through a sensor and controller configuration.

  • Patent number: 5643796
Abstract: A droplet flow cytometer system which includes a system to optimize the droplet formation time delay based on conditions actually experienced includes an automatic droplet sampler which rapidly moves a plurality of containers stepwise through the droplet stream while simultaneously adjusting the droplet time delay. Through the system sampling of an actual substance to be processed can be used to minimize the effect of the substances variations or the determination of which time delay is optimal. Analysis such as cell counting and the like may be conducted manually or automatically and input to a time delay adjustment which may then act with analysis equipment to revise the time delay estimate actually applied during processing. The automatic sampler can be controlled through a microprocessor and appropriate programming to bracket an initial droplet formation time delay estimate.

  • Patent number: 5025929
Abstract: An air classifier for separating light reusable materials from a stream of non-shredded solid waste is provided. The air classifier employs two operating phases. The first operating phase, the desired light fraction is entrained in an air stream and is conveyed above the remainder of the solid waste. The waste material is then received by a second conveyor so that the lighter fraction is received on top of the heavier fraction. Thus, the first phase of the apparatus effects mass stratification. During the second operating phase, the light fraction is actually removed from the heavy fraction by a high velocity air stream which is preferably induced by a reducing cross-section portion of the apparatus. The air flow through the apparatus is captured and recycled and the light fraction being separated therefrom in, for example, a cyclone.
