  • Patent number: 9611556
Abstract: Coaxial disk armatures, counter-rotating through an axial magnetic field, act as electrolysis electrodes and high shear centrifugal impellers for an axial feed. The feed can be carbon dioxide, water, methane, or other substances requiring electrolysis. Carbon dioxide and water can be processed into syngas and ozone continuously, enabling carbon and oxygen recycling at power plants. Within the space between the counter-rotating disk electrodes, a shear layer comprising a fractal tree network of radial vortices provides sink flow conduits for light fractions, such as syngas, radially inward while the heavy fractions, such as ozone and elemental carbon flow radially outward in boundary layers against the disks and beyond the disk periphery, where they are recovered as valuable products, such as carbon nanotubes.

  • Patent number: 8118999
Abstract: An improved filter capable of operating in a backwash mode that creates an upward swirling flow in the hollow interior of the pool filter container. During the backwash cycle, water or air and water are injected into the pool filter container at an angle. In the preferred embodiment, a mixture of water and air are injected into the filter container through exit jets located within the hollow interior of the filter container proximate to the bottom of the filter container. This causes the filter media to swirl upward mixing thoroughly with the backwash water promoting the separation of the mineral deposits from the filter media.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for biological treatment of water in swimming pools. The method requires neither chlorine nor other toxic chemicals in the pool water, since near-surface pool water is mechanically purified in a first water circuit and suspended matter situated in the pool water is first retained in a biological filter (9) in a second water circuit and organic matter contained in said suspended matter, such as algae or detritus, and also organic matter dissolved in the pool water, are mineralized by the action of bacteria, wherein the phosphorus contained in the organic matter is catabolyzed to form dissolved reactive phosphate that is then bound by adsorption in an anion exchanger (14).

  • Patent number: 7757866
Abstract: In an embodiment, axially-fed slurry can be continuously separated into clarified liquid, stripped gas, and thickened sludge in radial counterflow between counter-rotating coaxial centrifugal impellers. One impeller comprises an annular crossflow filter through which liquids are extracted. At the periphery of the impellers, where they are narrowly separated, the sludge is shear thickened into an extruded paste. Suspended solids in the feed pass over the surface of the rotating annular crossflow filter by the shear lift effect, and the vortex-wall interaction jets water radially inward from the periphery, dewatering the sludge. Evolved gases, oils, and fractions lighter than water flow radially inward to the impeller axis through radial vortices in a shear layer between the impellers, and are extracted through an axial exhaust conduit. Feed has long residence time so that separation is complete and continuous. Municipal wastewater, produced water, beverages, food, and scrubber sludge are discussed.

The viewing portion is a porthole of the side wall, which provides a window-like mechanism permitting one to see into the cleaning system container through the side wall. The cleaning system container defines a hollow cavity and is capable of holding a fluid, which can receive the cleaning system. The cleaning system container can include a filter assembly and/or a skimmer assembly. By positioning the portholes in desired locations, the amount of waste captured by the filter assembly can be ascertained without the need of opening the cleaning system container, prompting swimming pool owners to change the filter cartridges more frequently, which can improve its overall performance.
