Abstract: An intake shield assembly for inhibiting a pool skimmer from being plugged includes a pipe that is extended into an intake of a pool skimmer thereby inhibiting objects from entering the intake. A pair of arms is provided and each of the arms is coupled to the pipe. Each of the arms abuts a wall of the pool when the pipe is extended into the intake thereby inhibiting the pipe from being drawn fully into the intake. An elbow is provided and the elbow is positioned in the intake of the pool skimmer. The elbow is fluidly coupled to the pipe when the pipe is extended into the intake. In this way the elbow inhibits objects from plugging the intake.

Abstract: The present invention relates to systems for improving the range of pool skimmers. In some embodiments, the present invention provides a weir that is located in the basin of a swimming pool, moves in response to changing water levels in the pool and feeds water from the basin to a skimmer located in a sidewall of the swimming pool. In other embodiments, the present invention provides a deflector that is adjacent to a pool sidewall and extends above the skimmer opening, and includes an opening for feeding water to the skimmer opening. The present disclosure also provides for systems having combinations of such features. Without being bound to any particular theory, it is believed that the apparatuses are relatively cheap to manufacture, safe, conserve water and chemical use, and allow for an aesthetically pleasing full pool.

Abstract: A flow diverting weir device includes a mounting member having a length thereof sized to fit under a compression and without use of fasteners into a skimmer opening of a swimming pool skimmer, and an arm having one end thereof fastened to the mounting member, the arm movable between a coiled position and an uncoiled position, wherein the arm extends outwardly from the skimmer opening in the uncoiled position. Arm may be manufactured form a flexible material and have an arcuate cross-section in a plane normal to a length thereof.

Abstract: A filter basket apparatus that filters a slurry stream as the slurry stream is being pumped into a slurry tank. The filter basket apparatus includes a filter basket pivotably coupled to the tank so that the basket can be selectively inserted into an inlet in the slurry tank and extracted from the inlet and dumped to remove collected foreign material. The filter basket includes one or more portions of a lower wall that includes one set of substantially parallel grate members.

Abstract: A whirlpool skimming device removes surface debris from a pool by creating a whirlpool having an upper bound at the surface of the pool. The uppermost portion of the whirlpool is free standing and is not bounded by the device. The device includes an outer cup-shaped portion and an inner cup-shaped portion coaxially disposed therein. An opening is disposed in the bottom of the inner cup-shaped portion which communicates with a source of suction which is preferably a Venturi tube feeding the outlet water to a filter bag. There is a first nozzle supplying water at an upper, inner edge of the inner cup-shaped portion at a slightly downward angle in a first direction, and there is a second nozzle supplying water at a lower, outer edge of the inner cup-shaped portion and mounted on an opposite side of the inner cup-shaped portion.

Abstract: A pool has an opening formed with upper and lower surfaces and first and second side surfaces. A chamber located interiorly of the opening has a cylindrical well with a vertical axis. A first diverter plate has an exterior edge adjacent to the first side surface and an interior edge between the opening and the well. The first diverter plate is arcuate with a vertical axis of rotation adjacent to the first side surface. A second diverter plate has primary and secondary sections. The primary section has an exterior edge adjacent to the second side surface and an interior edge between the opening and the well and is arcuate with a vertical axis of rotation adjacent to the second side surface. The secondary section is located adjacent the primary section with a vertical axis of rotation essentially co-extensive with the axis of the well.

Abstract: Power supplies for pool and spa equipment are disclosed. In one embodiment, the power supply includes a buoyant housing, a peripheral float, at least one solar cell positioned on the buoyant housing for collecting sunlight and converting same to electrical energy, and a power cable for interconnecting the power supply and pool/spa equipment. In other embodiments, first and second inductive power couplings are provided for powering pool and spa equipment. The power couplings can also be installed using existing plumbing features of the pool or spa.

Abstract: A face plate has a passageway positionable in a skimmer opening of a pool. An arcuate short diverter plate is coupled to a side edge of the face plate. An arcuate long diverter plate in a generally S-shaped configuration is coupled to a side edge of the face plate spaced from the short diverter plate. The diverter plates have closely spaced regions for forming a restricted flow path for water to be skimmed to increase water speed and skimming effectiveness. The long diverter plate has an arcuate region with a vertical axis of rotation co-extensive with an axis of a pool well.

Abstract: A valve system for insertion between a cleaner hose and a pool suction line is mounted in a wall of the pool or skimmer box and comprises a valve with a gate pivoted in a housing which receives the end of the cleaner hose when the gate is open which is thereby juxtaposed in line with the pool suction line located in the pool wall or skimmer box. The juxtaposed ends of both the cleaner hose and the pool suction line have mating tapers and the valve rotates so that the tapered end of the inserted cleaner hose rotates into sealing engagement with the tapered end of the pool suction line. Further the gate of the valve closes automatically when the cleaner hose is withdrawn.

Abstract: A pool cleaner debris bag is provided having an open end adapted to receive debris from the pool and a closable end defining at least one discharge passage for the bag. The pool cleaner further comprises a securing apparatus disposed along at least a portion of the closable end. For example, the securing apparatus can have at least two separable members selectively movable between an unsecured position to permit opening of the discharge passage, and a secured position having at least a portion of the first end is disposed between the at least two separable members to permit closing of the discharge passage. In addition or alternatively, the debris bag can comprise a seam disposed at a location spaced apart from the open end for defining at least one discharge passage for the bag. In addition or alternatively, the securing apparatus can comprise a clasp.

Abstract: A skimmer-diverter assembly that cooperates with a conventional water circulating and filtration system of a swimming pool, the skimmer-diverter assembly comprising a diverter releasably attached to a mounting bracket that is removably attached to a skimmer inlet opening of the swimming pool filtration system. The diverter including upper and lower diverter housings each diverter housing having an upwardly extending pin. The mounting bracket including upper and lower bracket housings each of the housings having a bore sized to receive the pin of the diverter housings. The diverter further including a handle.

Abstract: A skimmer assembly has an upper housing and a lower housing. The lower housing contains a removable filter cartridge and the upper housing contains a floating cylindrical weir and a floating rotatable member atop the floating weir. The walls of the upper housing are curved and the water entrance includes a vertical slot which allows water to enter in a column, hit the curved wall and cause a whirlpool which causes the rotatable member to spin. The preferred embodiment includes a disposable annular filter disc removably attached to the rotatable member.
