  • Publication number: 20090304526
Abstract: A pump apparatus includes a gear pump assembly interposed between top and bottom drive gear assemblies, and coupler assemblies interposed between a bottom of the top drive gear assembly and a top of the gear pump assembly, and between a top of the bottom drive gear assembly and a bottom of the gear pump assembly. The drive assemblies rotate a pre-feed auger. A cyclone screen located within a cyclone housing is positioned over a shaft of the pre-feed auger and interposed between a blade of the pre-feed auger and the bottom drive gear assembly. An intake housing is positioned over the blade of the pre-feed auger, and regulates fluid intake into the pump. As fluid is taken into the pump, it is caused to spin by the action of the auger. This causes solids to be separated from the fluid and to be expelled through exhaust ports in the pump apparatus. As a result, fewer solids are permitted to travel northward with the pumped fluid, thereby helping to protect the components of the pump.

  • Patent number: 7438803
Abstract: A garnet settling/filtration system for use with a plurality of machine tools such as a water jet cutting machine is described. The garnet settling/filtration system comprises a settling tank, which utilizes a removable, disposable settling weir, which is received therein. The settling weir drops into the settling tank and provides an over-under flow system through which the garnet slurry must travel. As the flow of the slurry travels over and under the incorporated series of baffles, the garnet particulate settles out on the bottom of the liner. Once the liner has reached its maximum holding capacity, a series of incorporated, reinforced removal loops located near the top of the liner allow for the easy and quick removal of the liner and the settled-out particulate from the settling tank. The liner can then be discarded and a new one replaced in a matter of minutes, thereby reducing downtime of the machine.

The filter assembly is housed within the transmission case to reduce mounting brackets outside the case and minimize the likelihood of insufficient oil supply to the filter, pump and hydraulic system functions. The replaceable oil filter assembly is comprised of a filtering element, a strainer element and a by-pass valve. The by-pass valve is housed within the strainer element and is adapted to direct oil flow through the strainer element, but not the filter element when the oil viscosity is high and only through the filter element when the oil viscosity is low. In this way, the parasitic horsepower loss caused by routing oil through the strainer element at all times is eliminated.

Abstract: A fuel-conditioning skid for an engine. The fuel-conditioning skid includes an inlet that is connectable to a source to receive a flow of fuel containing undesirable compounds. An outlet is connectable to the engine to deliver a flow of fuel that is substantially free of undesirable compounds. An inlet cleaner is in fluid communication with the inlet and is operable to remove a portion of the undesirable compounds. A compressor is in fluid communication with the inlet cleaner to receive the flow of fuel at a first pressure and discharge the flow of fuel at a second pressure. The second pressure is greater than the first pressure. A purifier is in fluid communication with the inlet cleaner to receive the flow of fuel. The purifier is operable to remove substantially all of the remaining undesirable compounds from the flow of fuel.

  • Patent number: 6793812
Abstract: A fluid filtration assembly (10) operable to provide both return-side and supply-side filtration, as, for example, of a fluid entering and leaving a sump (14) as it circulates in a vehicle transmission (12). The fluid filtration assembly (10) broadly comprises a return-side filter (18) and a supply-side filter (20). The return-side filter (18) includes a filter media (33) operable to filter relatively small particles. Fluid flow through the return-side filter (18) may be accomplished using any of three described alternative embodiments, including upflow, downflow, and direct feed. The supply-side filter (20) includes a filter media (42) for filtering needed fluid as it is drawn back into circulation. The supply-side filter media (42) is a low restriction filter media operable to filter only relatively large particles, thereby decreasing bottle-neck effects and minimizing pressure drops.

  • Patent number: 6790348
Abstract: This invention provides an external lubricant filter system for automatic transmissions comprising a modified transmission lubricant pan assembly and an external spin on/off lubricant filter canister that is removably and sealably connected to the modified pan. The transmission pan is modified to include a filter adapter, a pick-up assembly, a discharge tube and inlet and outlet chambers. The filter adapter includes an externally threaded pipe nipple for removably receiving the filter canister, lubricant entry port and a lubricant inlet plenum for distributing the potentially contaminated lubricant to the inlet orifices of the filter canister, and a filter sealing surface. The lubricant pick up assembly delivers contaminated lubricant from the pan to the filter canister via the inlet chamber, and the entry port and plenum of the filter adapter.

  • Publication number: 20030226792
Abstract: The invention relates to a multi-layer filter element. The invention provides a main filter layer which preferably consists of a melt-blown fleece and has an absolute filtration capability. A paper layer (2) on the clean side supports the filter element and does not contribute to the filtering of the fluid to be filtered. Said layer can therefore have a macropore structure, thereby allowing a low flow resistance. A layer (3)on the clean side which preferably also consists of paper serves to pre-filter the fluid and to protect and support the main filter layer. The inventive design of the multi-layer filter material provides a means for economically producing filter elements, especially filter cartridges which are folded in the shape of a star, since no trellis protective layers are necessary. The invention also facilitates an improved thermal disposability of the proposed filter cartridge.

  • Publication number: 20030196943
Abstract: The automotive coolant filter was devised as a result of the inventor servicing an automotive cooling system and witnessing the evidence of contaminants depositing on cooling system surfaces. The inventor reasoned that other vital engine fluids such as motor oil and transmission fluid are filtered, wouldn't the coolant benefit also from filtration? Of course! By the simple filtration of circulating engine coolant through a paper or a fiber corrugated element, the majority of transient contaminants will be trapped. This in turn will extend the life of anti-freeze coolant as well as vital engine cooling system components.
