Publication number: 20100000924Abstract: A reducing water purification material having a reducing iron-based precipitate selected from green rust, iron ferrite, reducing iron hydroxide, and a mixture thereof. A wastewater treatment process having steps of adding a reducing iron compound to wastewater, leading the wastewater to which the reducing iron compound is added to a reaction tank and forming a precipitate, separating the formed precipitate by a solid-liquid separation to obtain a sludge, and alkalinizing all or a portion of the separated sludge to form an alkaline sludge followed by returning to the reaction tank, wherein in the precipitation step, the wastewater to which the reducing iron compound is added and the alkaline sludge are mixed and are allowed to react in a non-oxidizing atmosphere under alkaline condition to form a reducing iron compound precipitate as the precipitate, thereby incorporating contaminants in the precipitate to remove the contaminants from the wastewater.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 31, 2009Publication date: January 7, 2010Applicant: Mitsubishi Materials CorporationInventors: Hiroshi Hayashi, Hitoshi Takeuchi, Hajime Negishi, Shigeyuki Tsuzaki, Yoshio Aikawa, Ayako Mimoto, Shintaro Nakaya

Publication number: 20090283474Abstract: A device for extracting a liquid phase from a suspension, the device being characterized in that it comprises: a main duct for conveying a flow of said suspension, the duct being of a length that is sufficient to enable a layer of said suspension to develop that is depleted in solid phase; flow disturbance means for disturbing the flow of said suspension, said means being provided in the main duct and being adapted to cause at least one recirculation vortex to form so as to increase locally the thickness of said depleted layer; and liquid extraction means disposed in a region of the device where said suspension is enriched in liquid phase as a result of said recirculation vortex. A method of extracting a liquid phase from a suspension, the method comprising injecting said suspension into such a device at a flow rate suitable for causing at least one recirculation vortex to be formed, and extracting a fraction of said suspension that is enriched in liquid as a result of said vortex.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 13, 2009Publication date: November 19, 2009Inventors: Jean-Luc Achard, Elodie Sollier, Yves Fouillet, Herve Rostaing

Patent number: 7601261Abstract: The water to treat is received in a chamber (1) with a rapid mixer and from there it passes to a second chamber for coagulation (3) and from that to a third chamber for flocculation (4) where it is mixed with certain coagulating reagents. It then enters a separator (7) provided with some filtering membranes (5) where it is clarified. In the separator (7) there are some air nozzles (6) which sweep the surface of the said filtering membranes (5), some inlet nozzles (8) for floccules coming from the coagulation-flocculation and other air outlet nozzles (6) for distribution of said floccules underneath the membrane (5).Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2006Date of Patent: October 13, 2009Assignee: Acciona Agua, S.A.U.Inventor: Enric Palacios Doñaque

Patent number: 7563366Abstract: A method and system for treating water or wastewater to remove both soluble BOD and suspended solids. The method entails directing first and second water or wastewater streams to a treatment system including an activated sludge system and a ballasted flocculation system. The first water or wastewater stream is directed to the activated sludge system which includes at least one reactor and a clarifier. The second water or wastewater stream is directed to a ballasted flocculation system. Mixed liquor or activated sludge is directed from the activated sludge system to a mixing chamber that is located upstream from the ballasted flocculation system. The water or wastewater of the second stream is mixed with the mixed liquor or activated sludge in the mixing chamber. The mixed liquor from the mixing chamber is directed to and through the ballasted flocculation system. In the end, the soluble BOD in the second water or wastewater stream is reduced and suspended solids in the water or wastewater are also reduced.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2008Date of Patent: July 21, 2009Assignee: OTU SA S.A.Inventor: Jyh-Wei Sun
