The column extends upwardly of an inlet and has a gradually increasing cross-section for reducing the flow of velocity of the waste water. A horizontal trough extends along the axis defined by the drums and communicates between the top of the column and a tray. The edges of the tray terminate in weirs which are parallel to the sides of the inner drum. Water flows in a smooth sheet over a weir to impact the sides of the inner screen with low velocity.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1993Date of Patent: July 18, 1995Assignee: Lyco Manufacturing, Inc.Inventor: David R. Patent number: 5330646Abstract: An apparatus for filtering liquids, especially for recovering fibers from white water, includes rotatable filter discs at least partially immersed in the liquid to be filtered, and a shaft wall connected to the discs forming a circular cylindrical filtrate chamber, which extends centrally through the discs. A rigid stationary partition wall extends in the filtrate chamber dividing the latter into at least two axial channels. The partition wall is spaced from the shaft wall and arranged such that all of said axial channels receive various fractions of filtrate, respectively. Filtrate discharge means is provided for discharging said fractions of filtrate respectively from the respective axial channels, such that the pressure prevailing in the filtrate of each channel is at least substantially as high as atmospheric pressure.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1992Date of Patent: July 19, 1994Assignee: Ingenjorsfirman R. Patent number: 5330645Abstract: Apparatus for continuously separating a solid fraction from a liquid fraction in a mixture of such fractions has a stationary cylindrical vessel which is filled with the mixture and confines a rotary carrier as well as a battery of parallel disc-shaped filters mounted on and rotating with the carrier. The filters define internal chambers for separated liquid fraction and have foraminous walls which flank the respective chambers and intercept the solid fraction. The intercepted solid fraction is removed by stationary devices having receptacles immersed in the mixture, defining internal compartments for solid fraction and carrying sealing elements which prevent penetration of mixture from the internal space of the vessel into the compartments. The separated liquid fraction is evacuated fom the vessel through a channel in the carrier, and the solid fraction is evacuated from the internal compartments by suction and/or mechanically.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1992Date of Patent: July 19, 1994Inventor: Joachim Geldmacher

Patent number: 5296152Abstract: A disk filter for filtering mat forming suspensions is provided with a hollow shaft for receiving a flow of fine fraction created by hydrostatic pressure difference between the suspension to be filtered and the fine fraction in the hollow shaft. According to the invention, each disc is provided with a number of fine fraction chambers communicating with the interior of the hollow shaft via respective holes in the circumferential wall of the shaft. Each chamber is arranged, such that it functions as a dropleg during movement upwards, with the result that the coarse particle (fibre) concentration of the created coarse fraction is increased.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1992Date of Patent: March 22, 1994Assignee: Ingenjorsfirman R. Patent number: 5296143Abstract: An apparatus for filtering liquids, such as fibre pulp suspensions, includes annular hollow filter discs each of which has two annular liquid pervious, opposed walls covered with filter material, spray nozzle means for cleaning the filter material, and means providing relative movement between the filter material and spray nozzle means. The annular opposed walls of each filter disc are only attached to each other at their radially outer ends, whereas they are spaced from each other at their radially inner ends, such that an annular opening is defined between the interior of the filter disc and a filtrate chamber extending centrally through the filter discs. The spray nozzle means extends from the filtrate chamber through the annular opening into each filter disc. As a result, an extremely pure fine fraction can be produced, clogging of the filtering material is efficiently counteracted, and the operative part of the filter material can be increased.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1992Date of Patent: March 22, 1994Assignee: Ingenjorsfirman R. Patent number: 5227064Abstract: A filter for continuous filtering of a suspension under pressure and/or vacuum comprises a vessel (1) having a center axle (2) on which filter discs (3) are arranged at a distance from each other along the central axle. The filter discs consist of filter sectors having surrounding filter cloth and internal channels and between the filter sectors and an outlet from the vessel (1) there is a connection in the central axle (2). Moreover, a scraper (7) is arranged for removing the filter cake (8) on the filter cloth obtained during the filtering operation and a vertical outlet pipe (12) receives the scraped-off filter cake material. The central axle (2) is formed with only one common channel for the filtrate and the gas from all filter sectors in the vessel (1) and consists of a tube.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1991Date of Patent: July 13, 1993Inventor: Kent Strid

Patent number: 5213685Abstract: A cycle of filtration is realized for liquids containing solids in suspension and a rotary filter, suited to realize and cycle, where the filtration is carried out by a rotary drum fitted with a filtering surface (2), immersed in a tank containing the liquid to be filtered (26). The phase of the separation of the filtered material deposited on the filtering surface is preceeded by a phase of removal of the material from the filtering surface carried out by using air blown from a slit and it is followed by a phase of washing of the filtering surface, carried out by a plurality of sprayers.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1991Date of Patent: May 25, 1993Assignee: Fratelli Padovan SNCInventor: Giorgio Padovan

Patent number: 5116423Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for washing pulp according to which method the pulp is supplied onto a movable liquid-pervious support surface to form a substantially continuous layer; and washing liquid is supplied to the pulp layer and passed in several successive washing phases through different areas of the layer in such a way that the washing liquid gradually flows in the opposite direction compared with the flow direction of the pulp layer. According to the invention the washing liquid is divided in two or more partial flows which pass alternately through different washing phases in such a way that the washing liquid which in one phase has passed through the pulp layer flows past at least the washing phase preceding it in the flow direction of the pulp layer. The apparatus of the invention preferably includes a rotating cylinder having a casing surface of which serves as the liquid-pervious support surface for the pulp.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1990Date of Patent: May 26, 1992Assignee: A.
