  • Patent number: 5433849
Abstract: An interior wedge wire drum screen is mounted wholly within an exterior drum screen of narrower wedge wire spacing, and both are mounted to a frame and caused to rotate about a common central axis. One end of the outer drum is open and the other is closed by a disc-shaped drum head. The inner drum has an open end which is spaced inward of the open end of the outer drum. The waste water is presented to the surface of the inner drum screen by a waste water infeed which employs a vertical column. The column extends upwardly of an inlet and has a gradually increasing cross-section for reducing the flow of velocity of the waste water. A horizontal trough extends along the axis defined by the drums and communicates between the top of the column and a tray. The edges of the tray terminate in weirs which are parallel to the sides of the inner drum. Water flows in a smooth sheet over a weir to impact the sides of the inner screen with low velocity.

  • Patent number: 5395524
Abstract: A filter for a refrigeration unit having a heat exchange fluid supply conduit. The filter is a substantially cylindrical filter screen having a radial flange disposed at each end. One or more filters are disposed along the entire length of the fluid supply conduit to maximize the surface area of the filter screen. Each radial flange has a gasket disposed thereon for providing a seal that prevents the fluid from circumventing the filter screen of the one or more filters. As fluid passes through the conduit, it flows radially through the filter along the entire length of the conduit thereby reducing the adverse effect on fluid pressure in the conduit and passes through the screen, into a volume defined exterior to the filter, thereby minimizing the pressure drop experienced along the fluid supply conduit.

  • Patent number: 5190651
Abstract: The invention is an improvement in a known cylindrical, annular fluid filter cartridge of the type having a lower end cap supporting spaced, concentric filter elements. The spaced elements define an effluent path therebetween. In known cartridges of the foregoing type, the inner and outer perimeters of the end cap (or either of them) have a significant circumferential "Perimeter of engagement" which seats into a pocket with friction fit. As a result, significant force is required to remove a cartridge, especially a large cartridge, from the housing. The improvement comprises a channel (either a tube-like riser or a manifold) and a discharge port for receiving effluent, e.g., filtered water, from the effluent path. The discharge port (with its relatively small perimeter of engagement) is configured and arranged for attachment to and detachment from an outlet vent located near the bottom of the cartridge housing.

The device contains a filter chamber with attaching nozzle, a filter cone containing truncoconical filter elements arranged in cascade with diminishing pore size and diminishing surface area, a drip chamber and a tailpiece. The filter chamber and filter cones have different tapers and are at a specific distance apart, the taper of the filter cone from inlet to outlet being greater than the taper of the filter chamber. The filter cone has up to four filter elements, and a spacer which extends into the filter element of smallest pore size and surface area and supports same. Each of the filter elements has at least two opposed ribs running from the base to the apex of the truncated cone. The spacer is constructed such that it serves simultaneously for the support of the ribs and for the support of the filter fabric of the smallest filter element. The device has a capacity of less than 100 ml.

  • Patent number: 4146475
Abstract: An electric oil refining apparatus for motor vehicle internal combustion engines designed to remove liquid and solid contaminants from oil which is then recycled. The oil exits from a single small orifice into a vaporization chamber where, due to sudden change of temperature and pressure, the liquid contaminants separate from the oil. The stream of oil is then deflected against a heated concave cup which vaporizes liquid contaminants, and allows oil to flow over the floor of the vaporization chamber and back to the internal combustion engine of the motor vehicle for reuse. A filter is provided at the input to the orifice, thereby avoiding clogging of the orifice.
