Abstract: The invention relates to a filter device for microfiltration of oil, in particular for use in engines, automatic transmissions and hydraulic applications. The filter device comprises a tubular microfilter cartridge through which medium can flow in the transverse direction and which has open ends. This filter cartridge is accommodated in a filter chamber which is enclosed by a filter housing and is accommodated between two end closure elements, between which the filter cartridge is clamped under prestress. On their surface facing towards the filter cartridge the end closure elements are provided with at least one rib which extends in the transverse circumferential direction of the filter cartridge. The holding means comprise a spring which acts with prestress on one of the end closure elements, in such a manner that his closure element follows the end wall which it adjoins in the event of longitudinal expansion and also in the event of longitudinal contraction.

  • Patent number: 6413290
Abstract: A filtering device for treating substances passing therethrough includes a filter cartridge having a cylindrical inner wall surrounded by a cylindrical outer wall. The inner and outer walls are spaced to define an annular space between them. A filtering media occupies the annular space and operates to remove contamination from a fluid flowing through the filter cartridge. First and second covers are located at opposite axial ends of the filter cartridge for sealing the system. At least one biasing assembly is disposed at one axial end of the filter cartridge for applying an approximately constant compression force to the filter medium. The compression force minimizes the formation of voids and the occurrence of bridging within the filtering media. A sensing mechanism, such as a Hall Effect sensor, can be applied to the filter cartridge for detecting changes in the filtering media which indicate the formation of voids or defects in the filtering media.

Abstract: A liquid filtering device having a pack of cylindrical filter member discs (70) with an arrangement for reversed, filter flushing flow cycles. An integrally formed filter core (24) is provided comprising tubular nozzled conduits (30a, 30b, 30c) so that water under pressure within the conduits becomes discharged in jet forms to enable free rotation of the filter discs. One-way valve (90) in the form of a funnel shaped rubber sleeve allows the flow of filtered water to the outlet port (20) but impedes the flow of flushing water from the outlet port through the filter member (70) in the direction of the inlet port (16).

  • Patent number: 5882531
Abstract: A water filtration technique is designed to maximize the efficient performance of a variety of granular filtration media. The technique maintains the granular filtration media in a compacted state between a perforated outer media container and a perforated inner media container, where the perforated inner media container is a smaller similitude of the perforated outer media container. In the preferred embodiment of the filtration device of the present invention, the perforated outer and inner media containers are substantially spherical. By maintaining the granular filtration media in a static-state throughout filtration, highly efficient filtration is achieved. In contrast, during the backwash function, the normal inward flow is reversed to outward radial flow and granular filtration media is agitated, fluidized and quickly and vigorously cleaned. A plurality of high-velocity centrally-located water jets create the outward radial flow during backwashing.

  • Patent number: 5785870
Abstract: A filter unit (10) designed to filter process streams having different components and/or different fluid flow rates. The filter unit includes an elongated filter housing (12) having an inlet port (14) at one end and an outlet port (19) at the other end. A filter element flange (32) is fitted in the housing. The filter element flange is provided with a number of bores (34) that are provided with threading. Filter elements (28) with threaded coupling heads (36) are removably secured to the filter element array by fastening the coupling head in the threaded bores. This arrangement allows the replacement of the filter elements without having to completely disassemble the filter unit. In the event the number of filter elements is less than the number of openings that are in the element flange, plugs (84) are secured into the links in which the filter elements are not seated to prevent unfiltered fluid flow from the inlet port to the outlet port.

  • Patent number: 5770070
Abstract: This invention relates to the use of a unique apparatus and method for extracting radioactive components from liquids, such as electrophoresis buffers. In the present invention, the radioactive liquid is pumped or transported by other suitable means and is passed through a cartridge having an elongated chamber that contains an exchange medium. The exchange medium, i.e. exchange resin, is contained within the elongated chamber between an upper frit and a lower frit. Further, the cartridge has a means within the elongated chamber for retaining pressure between the upper frit and the lower frit. The nucleotides, being charged molecules, bind to the exchange medium and are removed from the liquid. The liquid then exits the cartridge and has such a low amount of radioactivity that it can be disposed of to a conventional drain.
