Abstract: An embossed screen having raised deflector elements on the internal surface is provided for a centrifugal pellet dryer. The deflector screen is formed as an integral structure, eliminating the need for separate deflector components secured by fastening elements along with the associated risks such as loosening or separation of the strip and contaminate build-up between the strip and the screen. The embossed deflector screen effectively deflects the pellets back toward the rotor where the pellets are reengaged with rotor energy, resulting in increased dryer efficiency and flow rate. The embossed deflector screen also enhances the overall structural strength of the screen, reduces manufacturing costs and prevents pellet entrapment that can lead to contamination in future runs.

  • Patent number: 5942170
Abstract: A continuous method of and system for fabricating thermoset polymer pellets wherein thermosetting polymeric resin material flows axially in a temperature controlled, mixer-extruder barrel while maintaining the material between a melt temperature and a higher thermosetting reaction temperature, and extrudes from the barrel at an extrusion temperature between the melt and reaction temperatures. The extruded material is formed into generally spheroidal pellets which are cooled in a transporting coolant liquid stream and charged to the interior of an open ended, centrifuge basket having a porous circumferential wall and an interior annular pusher plate. The wall is rotated to demoisterize the pellets by centrifugally removing liquid coolant and while reciprocating the pusher plate and basket relatively to displace the pellets axially along and off the basket wall. Pellets are taken from the basket wall without substantially fracturing them and forming an undue percentage of fines.

Abstract: The present invention provides an analytical rotor which holds a fluid in a chamber, typically to allow mixing with a reagent, and transfers the fluid to a receiving chamber in the rotor. The rotor comprises a holding chamber having an single exit duct and a receiving chamber connected to the holding chamber through the exit duct. The exit duct prevents flow at a first rotational speed and allows flow at a second, higher rotational speed. The exit duct may include a capillary passage in which capillary forces prevent flow until the rotational speed is increased. Alternatively, the exit duct may include a siphon.

  • Patent number: 5651881
Abstract: A fluid recovery assembly continuously separates lubrication liquid from lubrication-impregnated shavings. The fluid recovery assembly includes a shredder which receives and shreds the lubrication-impregnated shavings. A centrifugal drum rotates the lubrication-impregnated shavings at a speed sufficient to pull the lubrication out of the lubrication-impregnated shavings. A single electrical motor supplies the energy to rotate the centrifugal drum, the shredder and any other hydraulically actuated accessory. When the high inertia centrifugal drum is accelerated to operating speed, little power is needed to keep it rotating. The path in which the fluid flows is changed from a free flow path (back to the reservoir) to a path including a hydraulic motor which powers the shredder. Thus, no separate electric motor is needed for the shredder. The shredder power is further enhanced by the flywheel effect of the centrifugal drum.

  • Patent number: 5616245
Abstract: A separator includes a housing, a basket rotatably mounted in the housing and a movable weir member. The basket has an upstream end portion, a downstream end portion and an intermediate tubular portion that includes or forms a screen deck. The weir member is movable between a first position where a portion of the weir member extends radially inward relative to the inner surface of the downstream open end portion and a second position spaced from the first position. In this manner, the weir member forms a movable dam adjacent the downstream end portion of the basket. In operation, feed material is fed into the basket as the basket is rotated. The heavy fractions of the material pass transversely through the basket (i.e., the tubular portion that forms a screen deck) and report to a first outlet from which the heavy fractions are collected.
