Patent number: 5227057Abstract: The present invention is a centrifuge device which separates chips or shreds of containers from whatever liquid residue remains within these containers. Though this technology is suitable for a number of applications, a primary objective is the separation of the recyclable plastic of a motor oil container from the remaining re-usable motor oil within the container after the container has ostensibly been emptied. It is an objective to accomplish this in an economically advantageous manner which uses neither a solvent nor a wash process, and which reclaims the oil in a suitable form for reprocessing. In its preferred embodiment, the present invention may be utilized as a compact, free-standing size reduction and reclaiming device at the location where the container is used, such as in automotive service stations, and the like. In a second embodiment, production units may be used in plastic reclaiming plants where large quantities of a given plastic container are being centrally processed.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1992Date of Patent: July 13, 1993Inventor: Lynn C. Patent number: 4826608Abstract: In known worm centrifuges comprising a solid bowl and a sieve bowl, a cleaning and predewatering of the solids/liquid mixture occurs in the solid bowl when dewatering solids/liquid mixtures and an after-dewatering of the solids occurs in the following sieve bowl. In general, a relatively good cleaning and dewatering effect is achieved with such previously-known worm centrifuges comprising a solid bowl. According to the invention, the after-dewatering effect in the sieve bowl can be quite substantially increased in that the conveyor worm is provided with agitator elements in the region of the sieve bowl, the agitator elements immersing into the solids layer. As a result thereof, in particularly, a circulation of the solids layer is achieved in the sieve bowl in a very advantageous manner and, as a result thereof, the after-dewatering of the solids before discharge from the worm centrifuge is very substantially improved.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1987Date of Patent: May 2, 1989Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AktiengesellschaftInventor: Michael Kopper

Patent number: 4822486Abstract: A rotary self-cleaning strainer comprises a circular cylindrical walled PVC pipe on which a circular cylindrical filter screen assembly is journaled for rotation. The PVC pipe has an intake that is surrounded by the filter screen assembly and a discharge that is connected to a pump. When the strainer is placed in a body of water that is to be pumped, water is drawn through the screen that forms the sidewall of the filter screen assembly and enters the intake of the PVC pipe. The filtered water is conducted through the PVC pipe and to the pump. A nozzle structure disposed within the filter screen assembly is supplied with water from a separate supply line connected to the strainer. The water is forcefully emitted against the screen to both rotate the screen assembly and dislodge adhering debris from the exterior of the screen. The strainer also has a lip type seal and a series of wheels which seal and journal one axial end of the filter screen assembly to and on the PVC pipe.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1987Date of Patent: April 18, 1989Assignee: Perfection Sprinkler Co.Inventors: Thomas R. Patent number: 4597865Abstract: A cylindrically-shaped horizontal rotating unit which separates liquids from liquid-bearing materials, such as sludge or sewage, is the subject of this invention. After the liquid-bearing material is fed from a pipe onto a tray or head box located at the bottom of the feed end near the circumference of the unit, the material flows from onto the interior of the cylinder which contains bar screens around its circumference. The cylinder is rotated at variable speeds while the material is fed into it. When the cylinder is rotated liquids are drained from the material through bar screens contained around the circumference of the cylinder and into a drain pan below the cylinder thereby leaving the remaining material more solid. Additional features of this invention include interrupted pitched flights or blades protruding from the inside of the cylinder, which not only push the materials toward the discharge end of the cylinder but also roll the material end over end to remove even more liquid from the material.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1985Date of Patent: July 1, 1986Inventors: Arthur J. Patent number: 4522716Abstract: A shower pipe for a rotary drum filter has a square cross-sectional shape defined by top, bottom and side walls. The sidewalls and a pair of lengthwise-extending continuous diffusion flanges depending from the bottom wall of the pipe stiffen the pipe against sag for placement at a 12 o'clock position spanning the filter drum. The pipe is formed of fiberglass reinforced plastic in two longitudinally-divided hollow sections in a pair of mirror image, trough-like molds. Each section has a pair of interconnection flanges for mating the sections together. The interconnection flanges extend normally to the sidewalls to stiffen the pipe when the bottom wall of the pipe is vertically-oriented for placing the pipe at at 9 o'clock position along one side of the filter drum. Glass rods are secured in the interior corners of the pipe to provide diagonal rigidity, for placing the pipe at, e.g., a 10-11 o'clock position between the top and side of the filter drum.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1983Date of Patent: June 11, 1985Inventor: Richard W.
