Abstract: A solar tracking system with a plurality of tracking assemblies moved by a single motor. A method and system that prevents overloading the motor or tripping a circuit breaker due to an obstructed or impeded tracker includes sensing movement of the tracker assemblies and entering into obstruction clearing modes. Obstruction clearing mode 1 (OCM1) is a high frequency adjustable mode that prompts movement for an adjustable period of time. If movement commences, the system returns to a normal mode. If there is no movement, the system enters into an obstruction clearing mode 2 (OCM2) with is an adjustable lower frequency series of attempts. If there is no movement, no further attempts are made. Each of these steps are monitored and controlled remotely. There are two types of secure connections for drivelines, torque tubes or affixing driveline linkages for high torque conditions.

  • Patent number: 8999159
Abstract: An apparatus for removing magnetic particles from a mud slurry is disclosed, and includes one or more endless belts or chains enclosed almost wholly within a pipe. A motor drives the chain around the pipe. When the pipe is located within a mud slurry, magnetic particles in the mud slurry are drawn to the pipe and carried along the outside and away from the slurry until a collar is reached. Once separated the particles can be collected for disposal. The chain comprises a series of units linked together. Each unit includes a magnet with pole pieces at either pole to direct magnetic flux. Wear discs prevent the magnets and pole pieces from abrasion as they are drawn through the pipe. Units can be included in the chain which units do not include a magnet, thereby providing a break in the field, allowing particles to fall away from the collar region.

Abstract: A system for collecting matter provides a low energy, low cost and nearly zero pollutant process for extracting suspended matter in a medium. The system collects the matter on a material which is deployed into the medium, and the matter is extracted off the material. If an oil spill occurs in a body of water, then the material can rapidly remove the oil from the water in high concentrations. If oil or bitumen is mixed with water due to tar sands processing, then the material can extract the oil or the water depending on a balance of oleophilic or hydrophilic properties of the material. The extracted matter and the medium can proceed to further processing such as water purification and/or petroleum refining. This invention collects matter in an economically and environmentally viable manner.

The filtration systems also include various means to remove the hydrophobic materials from the filtration medium, including press rollers and chemical extraction baths. Illustrative liquid media that can be treated with the filtration systems include, for example, hydrophobic materials admixed in an aqueous phase, bilayers (e.g., oil-water bilayers), oil in a subterranean formation, water sources containing trace organic pollutants or trace organic compounds, and fermentation broths.

  • Patent number: 7964105
Abstract: A method for increasing the removal of a higher fraction of liquid from the press cake in any belt press is described. Specifically, the invention incorporates a series of rollers that create multiple pinch points to compress the solid fraction while removing liquid. After each pinch point, the solid material is allowed to separate from the belt, fall by gravity, and repack so that more liquid can be released at each successive pinch point than is possible if the material is fed to multiple rollers and pinch points in series without decompressing as is done is prior art.

  • Patent number: 7913854
Abstract: A filter apparatus includes a endless filter belt loop disposed in an interior space within a tank which receives liquid to be filtered. The filter belt has a series of closely spaced parallel guide-flight bars attached which are successively engaged by an extendible element on a pivot plate which is periodically oscillated to under the filter belt. The bars are received in guide spaces to hold the filter belt in position over a filter support having openings allowing filtering flow therethrough. Collapsible sealed hoses partially filled with liquid are used as edge seals extending along the guide spaces over side edges of the filter belt and are expanded by engagement of an upper end of each of the hoses with a squeeze member on the pivot plate. The squeeze members are moved off the hoses when the pivot plate is oscillated to advance the filter belt during indexing to release the sealing pressure and allow filter belt indexing movement.

Abstract: A boot seal for a vertically traveling water screen and a method forming a boot seal. The boot seal comprises a bent plate that extends from an attachment end to a free end. The attachment end is attached to a frame mounted at the bottom of a channel of water flowing through the water screen. The boot seal is positioned just upstream of the upward-moving upstream face of the water screen. The free end of the bent plate in a rest position is positioned close to or lightly touching the upstream face of the water screen. The bent plate has a concave surface facing the water screen. The bent plate acts as a cam follower to a passing lift element's cam. As the lift element slides along the concave cam surface, the lift element pivots the boot plate in an upstream direction against a spring bias. When the lift element clears the boot plate, the boot plate springs back to its rest position.
