  • Patent number: 8641892
Abstract: Debris adhering to the outer surface of a barrel-type fish screen is cleared by air bursts from a series of perforated air pipes positioned inside the outer foraminous shell of the screen, the perforations being holes with axes at an acute angle to the screen radius for efficient use of the air. Separately, the conical water collection manifold mounted inside the shell is open at its narrow end, with a valve mounted to that open end to control the opening. The opening prevents reduced water inflow at that end of the manifold, and the valve adjusts the access of the surrounding water to the opening, thereby allowing the manifold to be tuned to more closely approach a uniform distribution of axial water flow along the length of the collection manifold for different ambient conditions.

Abstract: The present invention relates to small vehicles such as lawn and garden tractors and more specifically to an oil filter cartridge or assembly usable with the transmissions of such vehicles. The cartridge is comprised of a filtering element, a strainer element and a by-pass valve. The by-pass valve is housed within the strainer element and is adapted to direct oil flow through the strainer element, but not the filter element when the oil viscosity is high and only through the filter element when the oil viscosity is low. In this way, the parasitic horsepower loss caused by routing oil through the strainer element at all times is eliminated. The cartridge is also housed within the transmission case to reduce mounting bracketry outside the transmission case and minimize the likelihood of insufficient oil supply available for the filter, pump and hydraulic system functions.

Abstract: A filter device and method for diaphragm type flush valves includes positioning the filter device in a cavity of the valve, between an inlet and an outlet pipe, and between an inlet and a bleed hole of a diaphragm of the valve. The filter device spans the entire span between an outlet pipe and a valve wall. Thus, all water entering the valve through the inlet passes through the filter prior to exiting through the outlet pipe, or prior to passing through the bleed hole in the diaphragm. The filter device can have a tubular or frusto-conical shape with a first, lower opening sealing about the outlet pipe, and a second, upper opening sealing against the valve wall.

Abstract: A filter head and a spin-on fuel filter element where the filter head includes an inlet and an outlet. A threaded nipple extends downwardly from a base of the filter head and includes a central flow passage. A valve member located in the flow passage is normally biased closed. The valve member includes a threaded portion extending outwardly from the nipple. The filter element includes upper and lower end caps, and is located in a housing having a tap plate. The tap plate includes a threaded central opening for screwing the filter element onto the filter head. The upper end cap supports a threaded sleeve which is screwed onto the valve member. The sleeve/valve member combination has a different thread pitch than the tap plate/nipple combination, which moves the valve member to an open position when the filter element is installed on the filter head.

  • Patent number: 6649048
Abstract: A filter assembly that filters water, particularly stormwater, that includes flow regulating, siphon inducing, and surface cleaning features that allow the filter assembly to operate at the design filtration rate for an extended period of time. During filtration, water flows inward through an annular filter medium into a drain manifold. The rate of flow into the drain manifold is controlled by a float valve assembly. A check valve permits air to escape, but not enter, the filter assembly creating a siphon effect when the rate of flow into the drain manifold is increased. The siphon effect draws water through the entire filtration surface and the entire volume of the filter medium. When the external water level decreases to the level of an array of voids in the filter assembly enclosure, the siphon is interrupted by turbulent air streams entering the filter assembly, agitating the filter surface and dislodging particulate matter.

Abstract: A multi-part filter combination is received in a stepped bore of a fluid-carrying component. A larger-diameter filter part is associated with a larger-diameter bore portion, and a smaller-diameter filter part is associated with a smaller-diameter bore portion. The two filter parts of the filter combination are connected by a connecting part. When the two filter parts are joined in their respective final position in the bore, this connecting part is detachable by means of a die to be introduced into the bore. The filter combination can be used in a valve block serving to receive a magnet valve.

Abstract: A liquid filter, especially for oil of an internal combustion engine, with a bypass valve including a valve body 20 and a valve seat 21 integrated in an end plate 32 of the filter insert. A spring 22, which urges the bypass valve closed, is mounted in a support member 24 attached to the housing. Thus, parts of the bypass valve subject to wear and soiling can be replaced each time filter element 18 is replaced, and reliable operation of the bypass valve is assured throughout the life of the filter. The filter insert can be designed free of metal for easy disposability. The filter cartridge can also be used with known filter arrangements in which a permanent valve body is housed in the support member 24. When the filter element of the invention is used, this permanent valve body stays in the support member and functions as an intermediate piece 35, which transmits force between spring 22 and valve body 20. The valve function is assumed by new valve body 20 engaging valve seat 21.

Said filter device also comprises an inlet (16) for a fluid to be cleaned and an outlet (18) for the fluid cleaned by the filter element (32), whereby the filter element (32) is retained by at least one element retainer (106) of the filter housing (22).
