  • Patent number: 7168573
Abstract: A filter cartridge which is environmentally friendly in that it is made up of components which are all incinerateable. The ends of a filter element are sealed using potting compound and plastic endcaps. The upper endcap, which is closed, has a pressure relief aperture associated therewith to prevent bowing. In a plugged filter condition the high-downward pressure introduced on the upper endcap is compensated by providing the cartridge with centering ribs which bottom on an associated ledge in the housing to provide a positive stop for the top endcap, preventing it from being driven down into and through the filter element. Rubber gaskets are associated with the respective endcaps, and are reliably secured to the endcaps by being snap fit into grooves molded into the plastic of the endcaps. The lower endcap utilizes a simple radial seal gasket which is both highly effective and also positioned to avoid structural crushing forces on the cartridge. A keying system prevents the installation of improper filters.

The walls of the filter cartridge that are incapable of withstanding significant internal pressure are surrounded on the outside by a pressure vessel. The invented cartridge need not seal to the pressure vessel, because the cartridge neck protrudes outside of the pressure vessel to seal directly to a filter head. The cartridge preferably includes a quick-disassembly mechanism for allowing quick and non-destructive access to the internal components and media of the cartridge.

A plastic centertube having a venturi section supports a bypass filter element on standoffs molded into the centertube. An outer concentric full flow filter element surrounds the bypass filter. The full flow filter is supported on a plastic centertube which creates a gap between it and the bypass filter. A first bypass filter endcap both seals the bypass filter and provides standoffs for allowing full flow oil around the bypass filter. The standoffs thus split the full flow which progresses through the primary filter in two paths, a primary path around the bypass filter and into the centertube, and a bypass path through the secondary filter and the venturi. Abstract: A filter assembly including a filter housing defining an interior chamber with an open end, a filter disposed within the interior chamber, and a cover removably positioned over the open end to enclose the interior chamber. The filter housing defines an axially-facing sealing surface spaced from the open end. The filter includes a filter element and a flange element, with the flange element having a hook-shaped lip portion defining an axially-facing groove adapted to securely retain an O-ring seal therein. The cover includes an axially-extending sidewall portion and a laterally-extending flange portion, with the sidewall portion defining an outward taper adapted to retain an O-ring seal thereon. A clamp is used to bias the cover into sealing engagement with the open end of the filter housing. The cover in turn biases the flange element of the filter into sealing engagement with the axially-facing sealing surface of the filter housing.

Abstract: A fuel dispenser filter for filtering fuel is adapted to be connected to a support in a fuel distribution system. The filter comprises a housing including an adaptor constructed and arranged to be secured to the support and a bowl operatively connected to the adaptor. A stud/spacer is secured in the adaptor. The stud/spacer defines a centrally disposed outlet flow passage and outwardly disposed inlet flow passages. A sleeve member is movably supported in the adaptor between the stud/spacer and the adaptor. The sleeve member is constructed and arranged to open and close the fuel flow through the inlet flow passages. A filter assembly including filter media is provided in the bowl for filtering the fuel passing through the filter. When the bowl is firmly engaged with the adaptor, the sleeve member is moved to open position to permit the flow of fuel through the filter and when the bowl is removed from the adaptor, the sleeve member is moved to a closed position to stop the flow of fuel.

  • Patent number: 6858051
Abstract: With known devices for separating oil in the crank housing ventilator, oil is collected on a refined gas side of a filter, which in operation of an internal combustion engine, often cannot drain off. In this manner, the liquid level increases, so that the filter is increasingly clogged by the oil. Finally, the oil is carried away from a gas stream. In this manner, the oil use of the internal combustion engine greatly increases. With the device of the present invention, the oil collected on the refined gas side is collected in a liquid storage unit (10), whereby the liquid storage unit (10) is protected from the stream, so that the gas stream can not carry away oil any longer. The device includes a support body (9), which is impermeable to the stream by means of a cut-off wall (23), in order to prevent a carrying-off of the oil.
