Gasket Within Casing Or Spaced Removable End Members Patents (Class 210/450)
  • Patent number: 6635175
Abstract: A filter cartridge housing formed of a manifold and a bowl containing a filter cartridge is disclosed. The filtration cartridge and bowl are connected to each other to form a unitary construction. The filtration cartridge and bowl are in fluid communication with the manifold in a manner which prevents mixing of a fluid feed to the module and a permeate removed from the module. A threaded ring substantially fixed in a position relative to either the bowl or the manifold is used to positively drive the manifold and bowl together and apart as needed and to form a secure and liquid tight seal between the two components when they are together. The threaded ring is held by a key in the keyway on of the outer surface of the bowl or manifold. The threads of the ring mate with the threads on the manifold or bowl. As the ring is relatively fixed by the key/keyway to its position on the bowl or manifold, it moves the bowl relative to the manifold as the ring is rotated onto or off of the mating threads.

  • Patent number: 6626299
Abstract: A filter cartridge for use in a filter system, in which the cartridge has no structural metal parts and is adapted for environmentally acceptable disposal. A pleated paper filter media is formed into a cylinder, and end caps at the axial ends of the cylinder hold the shape of the filter. Sealing gaskets are associated with the end caps. At least one side has a radial seal formed at the outer periphery of the filter cartridge to protect the associated end cap from higher a pressure region found at the outer periphery. The other axial end can have a similar radial filter in some applications, or in other applications, where flow at that end of the filter is not desired, can utilize an axial seal specially configured to protect the associated end cap from higher pressure at the outer periphery. Maintenance of lower pressure at the respective end caps places any axial loads on the filter in tension, and thereby prevents the application of axial crushing loads on the filter cartridge.

Abstract: An improved, spin-on, bead-lock filter which is particularly adapted for use in a high-pressure oil filter in a diesel engine is provided. The filter includes a housing containing a filter medium and having an inwardly deformed periphery, and a cover assembly including a cover plate and a retainer plate having mutually spaced apart outer edges for forming a recess that receives the inwardly deformed portion of the housing. A gasket whose outer diameter is less than the inner diameter of the undeformed housing is seated in the recess. The smaller outer diameter of the gasket relative to the inner diameter of the housing allows the cover assembly to be easily positioned in place over the top of the housing during manufacture. Both a mechanical connection and a seal is formed between the cover assembly and the housing when the periphery of the housing is inwardly deformed pursuant to a bead rolling step in conformance with the assembly method of the invention.

  • Patent number: 6610203
Abstract: A liquid filter mainly intended for oil or fuel in internal combustion engines, in which the filter comprises a replaceable filter cartridge (17). The filter cartridge is housed in a housing having an essentially central symmetry comprising a housing base and a cover which is designed to be screwed on. In order to avoid leakage residual liquid when the filter housing is opened, especially if the liquid filter is mounted horizontally, a drain screw (22) is actuated before the housing is opened, and in order to achieve the highest possible degree of drainage, the drain screw is moved to the lowest possible position by rotating a threaded member (11) by at most 360°. Upon rotation of the threaded member, a sealing ring (13) ensures tightness in the base (10) of the housing in an area “a”. After all the liquid has drained out of the housing through the drain opening (23), the filter housing can then be opened to enable replacement of the filter cartridge without danger of leakage.

Abstract: The invention relates to a filter device comprising at least one filter element (32), which can be accommodated inside a filter housing (22). Said filter device also comprises an inlet (16) for a fluid to be cleaned and an outlet (18) for the fluid cleaned by the filter element (32), whereby the filter element (32) is retained by at least one element retainer (106) of the filter housing (22). By virtue of the fact that a closing device (98) seals the interior (34) of the filter element (32) off from the environment when the filter element (32) is removed from the element retainer (106), a filter device is created which is improved with regard to the prior art and which, in particular, simplifies the necessary exchange of the filter element while imposing only a slight burden on the environment.

Abstract: A fuel filter cartridge assembly employs a two piece housing to house a replaceable filter unit. The filter cartridge assembly incorporates a key system to ensure compatibility of a replacement filter unit for a given cartridge assembly. Keys formed on the filter unit cooperate with keyways formed in the housing to ensure that only filter units having key structures may be used. Each key may have a different angular position, angular dimension and radial projection. By varying the dimensions of the keys and/or the positions and/or the number of keys, a composite compatibility matrix comprising an infinite number of configuration sets are available to differentiate between filter units having differing flow capacities, filter media, disposal options or other characteristics.

Abstract: Liquid filter arrangement with interchangeable filter element and including a pot-like filter housing in which the filter element is disassemblably inserted between a liquid inlet to the chamber and an outlet situated below, in the lower section of the filter housing, for filtered liquid from the chamber. In the liquid chamber is arranged a central tube about which is arranged the filter element which is provided at the bottom with an annular end piece sealingly surrounding the central tube, and is provided upwards with an end disc by which the filter element is fastened to a lid fastened sealingly in the upper section of the filter housing. When the filter element is in its fitted position, the end piece blocks the inlet to a draining duct in the central tube, which duct leads to a draining outlet from the chamber.

Abstract: A fluid filter for spin-on mounting to a base includes an outer shell defining a hollow interior and a nutplate secured to the outer shell by forming an upper edge portion of the outer shell onto the nutplate. A filtering element is positioned within the hollow interior and the base provides fluid-in and fluid-out passageways for the fluid filter. To provide a face seal against the base and concurrently a radial seal against the formed edge, a retainer and gasket assembly is used. The retainer has a base portion which rests on the nutplate and an inclined portion which extends upwardly and inwardly. An elastomeric gasket with a unique cross sectional shape has a flat portion which rests on the inclined portion. With axial compression of the gasket by the base, the gasket compresses against the retainer and expands radially into sealing contact with the formed edge.
