Abstract: An improved filter support structure for supporting filter media. The support structure includes two sections removably coupled together with an improved coupling assembly. The first section has a cross section presenting a first width spaced apart from a second width, the second width being less than the first width. The coupling assembly includes an element carried by the second section, and presents an engagement width that is greater than the second width and less than or equal to the first width such that the element may be shiftably received within the first section at the first width, and can be removably engaged at the second width.

Abstract: A fluid filtration unit having two or more filter medium layers and/or zones, at least one of the layers/zones having a different particle retention capability disposed on each side of a non-filtering separator element. The filter medium are presently preferably positioned such that each succeedingly distal filter layer or zone from the separator has a decreased particle retention capability than each proceeding filter layer or zone. The filter medium layer most proximal to the separator element may be separated from the separator by a support material for supporting such filter medium element and preventing collapsing of the medium into any separator conduit. At least one of the medium elements is formed from a material which swells in size due to fluid absorption with the various zones and the separator being operatively connected by a new and innovative edge seal.

Abstract: A laminated modular water filter includes a top plate, a bottom plate and a plurality of superposed intermediate plates disposed between the top and bottom plates. Each adjacent pair of the top, intermediate and bottom plates are interconnected removably, and define an accommodating space therebetween, within which a filter unit is received fittingly. Each of the top and bottom plates has a central hole which is in fluid communication with central holes in the intermediate plates, and two side openings which are in fluid communication with a plurality of annular outer passages units in the intermediate plates that are in fluid communication with the accommodating spaces. Each of the filter units includes two filter films interconnected fixedly along outer peripheries thereof, and a filter net disposed between the films so as to define an annular filtered-water passage between the films that is fluid communication with the central holes.

Abstract: The invention relates to a filter module (1) comprising filters layers (4a, b) made of a filter medium, especially comprising filter layers made of filter strata. Said filter layers alternate with layers made of draining spacer elements 910, 10a, b, 20), the first and last layer of the filter module (1) consisting respectively of a draining spacer element (10a, b, 20). The draining spacer elements respectively and mutually comprise flow elements (12a, b) and sealing elements (11a, b) for the filtrate chamber and the non-filtrate chamber (40, 41). Means are provided for the mutual connection thereof The aim of the filter module (1) is to combine the advantages of known filter modules with improved sealing at the edges of the filter layers, and to make the filter module backwashable. The filter module (1) comprises draining spacer elements (10, 10a, b, 20) which are embodied in such a way that they enable the filter layers to be pressed in a sealing manner.

Abstract: In a papermaking process, filtering of white water containing fiber material is performed by feeding the white water to a filter on a surface of which a layer of auxiliary pulp has been formed, such that the white water is filtered through the layer of auxiliary pulp and fiber material in the white water remains in the layer of auxiliary pulp. The mixture of auxiliary pulp and fiber material is removed from the filter and is fed to a fractionating screen. The screen separates the mixture into a short-fibered pulp fraction that can be returned to the papermaking process, and a long-fibered pulp fraction that is returned to the filter where it is used as auxiliary pulp to form a layer on the filter surface.
