Publication number: 20110168621Abstract: A water separator and particulate filter with a first or outer stage configured to coalesce water from fluid such as fuel, and a second or inner stage configured to separate coalesced water from the fluid and also remove fine solid contaminants from the fluid. The coalescing stage includes a pleated cylinder of polymeric media. The pleated cylinder has pleat valleys and downstream pleat tips, and release sites defined at the downstream pleat tips. The separator stage includes a non-pleated cylinder of polymeric media surrounding and in contact with outer pleat tips of a multi-layer pleated cylinder.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2010Publication date: July 14, 2011Applicant: CUMMINS FILTRATION IP, INC.Inventors: Mark Wieczorek, Terry Shults, William Haberkamp, Jonathan Sheumaker, Barry M. Patent number: 7931153Abstract: The invention relates to a method of making a solid-liquid filtration cloth, a solid-liquid filtration cloth, and a filter in which the solid-liquid filtration cloth is arranged. The filter cloth (7) is provided with yarns (13b) having a highly changing length and a long free run in the weave. When the length of the yarns (13b) is allowed to shorten significantly, a filtration portion (15) on the side of a surface (14) of the cloth obtains a corrugated shape, providing the cloth with a large filtering area.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2005Date of Patent: April 26, 2011Assignee: Tamfelt Filtration OyInventors: Antti Makinen, Eino Sorri, Heikki Rehakka, Aimo Rautanen

Patent number: 7918996Abstract: The invention is a particle and sediment filter for stormwater. A long permeable filter bag is laid out horizontally within an enclosure. The bag is formed of at least two layers of parallel tubes that give each layer the pleated look of a typical air mattress. Stormwater is collected from the filter bag by perforated pipes held within the creases between the tubes of the layers of the bag, with the pipes draining to the outside of the enclosure. The bag is also supported above the bottom of the enclosure by additional perforated pipes located within the creases between the tubes, thus allowing the filtered liquid to also drain off beneath the bag. The stormwater input is from a pipe that feeds a manifold formed in the bag and connected to each tube. The top of the enclosure is removable for replacing the filter. The filter bags are constructed of flexible material so that they are flat during initial transport and installation, but they expand as they are filled with liquid and solid material.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 2009Date of Patent: April 5, 2011Inventor: Hans de Bruijn

Patent number: 7879125Abstract: A filter is provided by pleated filter media having a plurality of pleats defined by wall segments extending axially along an axial direction along an axis and extending transversely along a transverse direction between first and second sets of pleat tips at first and second sets of axially extending bend lines. The pleated filter media spans laterally along a lateral span along a lateral direction, with the wall segments being spaced from each other by lateral gaps. The pleats have a pleat depth along the transverse direction along the wall segments between the first and second sets of pleat tips. The pleat depth varies as the pleated filter media spans laterally along the lateral direction.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2009Date of Patent: February 1, 2011Assignee: Cummins Filtration IP Inc.Inventors: William C.
