    Abstract: The invention relates to a device for assembling stacked annular filtering elements under constant pressure. The device comprises a support which provides an abutment for one end of the stack of filtering elements, a presser member which provides an abutment for the other end of the stack, and a calibrated spring which biases the presser member towards the support while trapping the stack of elements between the two abutments. The device is useful for the manufacture of filters used particularly for the filtration of oils.

    Abstract: The peripheral surface of a coil of a filter web wound about a hollow shaft is covered by a liquid impervious flexible coating, and the outer periphery of a first end of the coil is secured to a supporting disc so that when liquid to be filtered is caused to pass through the coil in the axial direction thereof, the convolutions of the coil near a second end expand radially outwardly to trap contaminants in the spiral gap. Purified liquid collected at the first end of the coil is discharged through the hollow shaft. The filter unit is constructed such that a number of units can be readily connected in series.

    Abstract: This invention relates to an improved injection molding filter assembly to be located in a passage between the molding machine and the mold to remove contaminants such as wood, paper, or metal from the molten plastic material or melt. The filter assembly has an upstream circular plate located adjacent a downstream circular plate and the plates are secured against relative rotation by pins passing therethrough. The upstream and downstream plates each have a number of circular openings therethrough arranged in concentric circles with each of the openings in each plate partially overlapping at least two openings in the other plate, whereby a plurality of restricted eye-shaped openings are provided through the filter assembly in the abutment plane between the two plates. The filter assembly is securely retained in mating seats in the back plate and the adjoining manifold spreader plate nozzle.

    Abstract: A fluid filtering device comprises an inner member having an inner axial passageway for the fluid, and an outer housing radially spaced from the inner member to define therewith an outer axial passageway for the fluid, the inner member being formed with a radial passageway providing a communicating path between the two axial passageways for the fluid. A filter is disposed with the device upstream of the radial passageway in the path of the fluid flowing through the passageway, and a deflector is disposed within the axial passageway of the inner member on the upstream side of its radial passageway to deflect the fluid to flow through the radial passageway and through the filter. The deflector has a cylindrical wall disposed within the inner member and extending axially thereof, and a transverse wall extending transversely across the axial passageway of the inner member.

    Abstract: A new separator that incorporates a new separator element is provided for removing a dispersed liquid phase from a continuous liquid phase. The new separator element comprises a plurality of discrete sections of coalescing and sorbing media interspersed in intimate contact with one another. The sections of coalescing media provide substantially continuous paths through the separator element for the liquid to be treated. As the liquid is conducted through the coalescing media, the dispersed liquid phase is sorbed from the coalescing media into the sorbing media, whereupon a cleaned continuous phase exits from the separator.
