Abstract: The preparation of silver quantum clusters embedded in organic-templated-boehmite-nanoarchitecture (OTBN) and its use as a sensor for quantity of water flow measured by change of color in visible light upon flow of contaminated water have been provided. Silver quantum clusters-embedded OTBN are highly luminescent. Since the quantum clusters are embedded in the matrix, they are highly stable over a long period of time. The composition described here is utilized in the form of a device for ‘visible/ultraviolet light color change-based detection’ upon passage of water through a water purification device. Upon interaction with ions present in water, luminescent silver clusters undergo chemical transformation to Ag2S nanoparticles. The transformation is reflected in the form of visible color change (from pink to black) and luminescence quenching (from red emission to negligible luminescence).

  • Patent number: 8968571
Abstract: A gas flotation separator for use in horizontal tanks, such as those used for oil storage on board Floating Production Storage and Off-loading (FPSO) vessels, includes dividing the tank into a plurality of chambers operating in series. Prior to entering each chamber, the contaminated aqueous phase is mixed with a stream containing gas bubbles to aid in flocculation and flotation of the immiscible phase contaminant. The gas bubble recycle stream can be generated by injecting a controlled rate of a pressurized gas into a liquid stream of the clean produced water in a process external to the tank or by induction of a gas phase internal to the tank. The mixture flows into the first chamber and impinges on an angled inlet water weir. A portion of the immiscible phase and the gas phase rises to the top of the chamber while the remaining immiscible contaminants flow downward with the aqueous phase to the bottom of the chamber.

A pressurized air input communicating with fluid inlet port allows pressurized air to be injected into the assembly to force fluids through the screen filter and out of the filter assembly. A low pressure drain valve and a bypass valve are carried in the lower housing.

Abstract: A visual bilgewater quality indicator for use in a bilgewater filtration system which includes a filtration stage for removing oily contaminants. The quality indicator utilizes one or more filtration status chambers which are provided with a fluorescent or phosphorescent dye or pigment treated filtration media. The status chamber has a transparent outer wall. Flow through the status chamber is from the outer lateral wall toward its central axis, whereby oily contaminants in the flow collect selectively at the outer portions of the filtration media which are highly visible to an observer. Oil droplets as small as one micron, are captured and immobilized by the primary filter and are instantly visible against the background of the exemplary dye. If two status chambers are used in series, the second chamber is always kept transparent until complete loading and supersaturating breakthrough at the primary chamber.

Abstract: Embodiments of the Gas Vent are comprised of a horizontal float assembly, and a vertical gas valve assembly. The horizontal float assembly is connected via a fluid connection to a surge tank or any other connection to the overall gas processing system. The horizontal float assembly is comprised of a housing; a horizontal float; a flange; a sight glass; one or more sight glass valves; a horizontal float lever arm; a vertical valve hinge arm, and a hinge. The housing of the horizontal float assembly is essentially a large hollow process vessel with various openings and fittings formed by the housing to accept the various devices and. The horizontal float is a large, hollow vessel that partially floats on top of any liquid contained within the horizontal float assembly. As the horizontal float rises and falls in conjunction allowing gas to vent as it is accumulated.

Abstract: Hot water pipes, in areas with hard water, tend to fill with scale until they no longer pass enough water. De-scaling water pipes with acid is dangerous, expensive and damages the pipes. Ion exchange and reverse osmosis water softeners eliminate scale buildup in pipes, but are expensive. Embodiments of this invention provide a means of keeping an amount of the scale precipitate, created when water is heated, inside a housing by passing the hot water through a removal medium where the scale sticks to the surface. The removal medium can be placed inside the water heater or in a separate housing connected to the water heater; both configurations remove the precipitate from hot water; both save hot water pipes from scale accumulation.
