Abstract: A method whereby a sample handler moves and positions racks, containing sample tubes, in an analytical instrument. The sample handler has an in-feed and out-feed that advance sample tube racks using a walking beam mechanism. The racks are seated within the in-feed and are transported onto a cross-feed. The racks and tubes contained thereon are moved past detection devices that identify the samples and measure various properties thereof. Thereafter, the cross-feed moves the racks to a position behind the out-feed where the walking beam mechanism moves the tube racks out of the analytical instrument.

The invention creates a rigid box by the joining, bottom to bottom, of two pipette-racks each having a standard matrix of pipette-receiving holes. The new design permits pipettes to be inserted from both the top and bottom of the box, because the centerline spacing of the rows of pipette-receiving holes on the top and bottom surfaces is offset with respect to each other. • Patent number: 6276538
Abstract: A shelf assembly for organizing and merchandising a plurality of products. The shelf assembly comprises a shelf having a bottom, plurality of dividers extending from front to back, a pair of dividers and the bottom forming a track in which a column of products are arranged. A front member pivotal about a stop, or pivotally engaged with the dividers, prevents the forwardmost product within the column from falling off the front of the shelf. The pivotal front members enable product to be pulled forwardly off the shelf, minimizing the spacing necessary between adjacent shelves.

Abstract: A carton assembly for dispensing product members such as spools of wire and other rollable products having circular ends of the same diameter. The carton comprises a bottom, forward and rearward end walls, two side walls and a closable top. Within the carton each side wall has associated therewith one upper guide member, at least one intermediate guide member and a lower guide member. The guide members of one wall are mirror images of the corresponding guide members of the other side wall and are correspondingly positioned with respect to their respective side walls. The intermediate and lower guide members provide narrow sloping edges in parallel spaced relationship which maintain the product members in a row made up of zig-zag row segments, one above the other. The carton has a dispensing opening in its forward wall through which the forwardmost and lowermost product member can be extracted.

  • Patent number: 6237784
Abstract: A beverage display rack provides a track on which beverage containers slide forward for dispensing. A rib on the track engages a groove in the beverage container. The groove has a predefined relationship with the label on the container so that the label faces forward when the rib engages the groove. The rib can be an upstanding rib which extends upward from the bottom of the track or can extend inward from the sidewall of the track toward the center of the display rack to engage a groove in the beverage container. Existing display racks can be retrofitted with an insert that fits in the track and has a protruding rib to engage the beverage container.

  • Publication number: 20010001643
Abstract: A 96-well solid phase extraction (SPE) plate assembly comprises a common base plate having plural apertures (bores), and removable extraction cartridges (containers, tubes) extending through the bores. The plate assembly is mounted on a conventional 96-well plate vacuum manifold. The cartridges preferably snap into the base plate, but may also screw in. The apertures have annular counterapertures (counterbores) complementary to annular ridges protruding from the side walls of the cartridges. Each ridge snaps into a corresponding counteraperture. The modular design allows the end user to customize the extraction medium mix of the extraction plate assembly by inserting extraction containers having different sorbents into a common base plate. Gaskets are used to maintain a vacuum seal between the base plate and extraction cartridges, for maintaining a pressure gradient across the sorbents.

  • Patent number: 6209735
Abstract: An interlocking tube and tube arrangement are provided. The tube includes an interior surface being adapted to allow placement of the object. The tube includes an exterior surface having a number of rails and a number of channels formed therein. Both the rails and channels have side surfaces that are back-cut. Portions of the rails and channels are cross-sectionally sized and shaped similarly to each other to permit a first tube to matingly engage a second, similar tube. The rails and channels extend between tube ends and are formed alternatingly about the tube exterior surface in an orientation parallel to the tube longitudinal axis. To engage the two tubes together, the rails of the first tube are slid into the correspondingly-sized channels of the second tube, their mutually back-cut side surfaces maintaining their engaged relationship. In one embodiment, the tubes are interlocked at angles of 90 degrees therebetween. In another embodiment, the tubes are interlocked at angles of 60 degrees therebetween.
