A rack (54) having teeth on four sides meshes with each one of the fingers. One surface of the rack (54) includes teeth (56) along its entire surface which mesh with teeth (52) of the finger (50). The teeth (56) at the remote end of the rack (54) engage teeth (80) of a gear wheel (81). The wheel (81) includes a worm (82) which meshes with a worm drive shaft of the drive motor (86) providing a ninety degree self-locking drive (E) for locking the fingers in a desired position.

  • Patent number: 4514939
Abstract: A multi-section telescopic boom is disclosed having a base section supported for pivotal movement, a manual section telescopically received in said base section, a mid section, and a tip section which sections are progressively lighter from the base section to the tip section when excluding the weight of head machinery connected to the tip section. The heavy manual section is stored in the base section when a load to be transferred between two locations can be reached with the mid and tip sections extended thereby substantially decreasing the turning moment about the pivot axis due to the weight of the boom sections resulting in an increased load carrying capacity of the boom. The boom is preferably supported by a pendant line operatively connected to the outer end of the tip and base sections and trained within the boom to aid a single hydraulic ram to extend and retract selected sections of the boom.

Abstract: A rod device for use as an arm of an excavator, so as to be pivotally supported by a boom and inclined relative to the boom by an actuator, including a plurality of tubular elements assembled in a telescoping manner, means for restricting relative axial movement of each two mutually telescoping tubular elements, and a means for drivingly connecting the outermost and the innermost of the plurality of telescoping tubular elements, wherein a clamshell bucket or a rock breaker is directly mounted to the tip end of the rod device so that the rod device serves both as an arm and a cable for suspending the clamshell bucket or the rock breaker.

  • Patent number: 4396126
Abstract: Apparatus and method for extending a fly section of a telescopic crane boom which fly section does not have its own power extension/retraction unit. The crane boom comprises at least a first or fly section, a second section, and a third or base section. Linearly extendable power screws are located within the boom for extending the second section from the base section, being connected between the base section and the second section to effect movement of the latter. To set up the crane for operation, the power screws extend the second section from the base section, a load pin connecting the fly section and the second section is released, and a pair of stop pins engages the fly section in its sides. The stop pins prevent movement of the fly section relative to the base section. Thus, when the second section is thereafter retracted into the base section, the fly section is left extended from the second section.

  • Patent number: 4392573
Abstract: A telescopic strut jib crane includes a jib with at least three telescopic sections and at least one tie rope of fixed length. The rope is fed between the head of the base section and head of the outer section around a pulley at the foot of an intermediate telescopic jib section. One end of the tie rope (12) passes around a support pulley (14) to the rear of the jib around first extension pulley (32) at the head of the outermost jib section (2), down the outermost jib section, around a second extension pulley (28) at the foot of the outermost section, to be anchored at or adjacent (26) the head of the intermediate jib section (4). The other end of the tie rope (12) extends from the support pulley (14) around a third extension pulley (34) at the head of the intermediate section (4), down the intermediate section and around fourth extension pulley (36) at the base of said intermediate section (4), and then to the head of the adjacent lower section (6).

  • Patent number: 4352434
Abstract: A crane with a telescopic extensible boom is disclosed. Two cylinders within the boom are each connected between adjacent sections for relative movement between the sections. Pendants are trained over sheaves on a live mast, and one end of the pendants is held by a stop on the mast. The other end of the pendants is received in the boom over sheaves mounted in fixed relation to the respective crane sections. The opposite end of the pendants is connected to the base section of the boom.

Abstract: An apparatus for excavating or cleaning out sumps and drainage pits includes a mobile, towable chassis rotatably supporting a platform thereon. A standard extends upwardly from the platform and an elongate, rigid boom structure and guide is mounted upon the standard for upward and downward swinging movement and for forward and rearward reciprocal movement relative to the platform. A material engaging member such as a bucket is mounted to a forward end of the boom structure and has a cover therewith whereby the bucket closes and traps mud or loose materials for removal from the sump or drainage pit. An engine mounted upon the platform powers a hydraulic pump for routing fluid under pressure to motors and rams controlling operation of the platform, boom structure and material engaging member.
