Patent number: 8272522Abstract: A closure for a container, the closure including a spout having a dispensing nozzle and a tip attached to the spout at a break-away junction. The break-away junction is recessed from the nozzle such that a user is protected from rough or jagged edges that may be created when the tip is broken away from the spout. The spout also has an orifice that is smaller than the dispensing nozzle for controlling the rate or amount of product dispensed from the container, the orifice remaining intact when the tip is broken away from the spout. The tip is sufficiently flexible to absorb an impact, such as from the container being dropped, but is sufficiently stiff that a user can fracture the break-away junction by applying sideways force to the tip. The closure may be attached to the container by a cap body or may be formed integrally with the container.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2007Date of Patent: September 25, 2012Assignee: Stull Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Gene Stull, Sr., Robert T. Publication number: 20120223044Abstract: A bottle is assembled with an existing cap on its threaded neck to seal the contents in the bottle. A decorative top fits onto the existing cap and bottle for holding a decorative body, such as a figurine or the like, on a stem of the top. To open the bottle and use the decorative top, a removable rim comes off the top allowing it to be removed from the existing cap. The cap then twists off the bottle's neck and can be discarded. To reseal the bottle and allow drinking of its contents, the top with the removable rim detached threads onto the bottle's neck. A spout or valve of the top's stem can then be opened so contents of the bottle can be drunk from the stem.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 2, 2012Publication date: September 6, 2012Applicant: In Zone Brands, Inc.Inventors: Leon James Scott, III, Jonas McCracken

Patent number: 8141730Abstract: A closure for a multiple component container includes an insert (12), a piston (20) and a cap (10). The insert (12) and the piston (20) define a reservoir and the insert (12) comprises a fixed cylindrical wall (26) and a movable wall (32) connected thereto and movable with respect thereto by the action of gas pressure within the reservoir. The movable wall (32) has a discharge aperture (36) formed therein. The cap (10) comprises a closure plate (14), integral with whose outer edge is a depending skirt (16), by means of which the cap may be secured to a container. The closure plate (14) cooperates with the piston (20) such that movement of the closure plate towards the insert (12) results in movement of the piston also in the same direction. The piston (20) forms a sliding seal with the internal surface of the fixed cylindrical wall (26). A valve member (22) is integral with, the piston (20) and is slidably received in and seals the discharge aperture (36).Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2007Date of Patent: March 27, 2012Assignee: Carbonite CorporationInventors: Matthew Eric Smith, Karl Mondszein

Patent number: 8132684Abstract: A closure includes a skirt and internal lugs on the skirt. The skirt has an undulating circumferential contour that includes alternate outwardly convex and outwardly concave portions, with the internal lugs being disposed within the outwardly concave portions of the skirt. The skirt preferably is sufficiently flexible to allow the outwardly concave portions of the skirt to assume an outwardly convex geometry as a result of outward pressure on the internal lugs during demolding of the closure. The closure thus may be simply axially stripped from the mold core during the demolding operation without requiring movement of portions of the mold core to clear a path for travel of the lugs. The lugs preferably are shaped as an inverted U that opens toward a free edge of the skirt, further to facilitate demolding of the closure.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2005Date of Patent: March 13, 2012Assignee: Rexam Prescription Products Inc.Inventors: Maurice R. Patent number: 8118185Abstract: A closure for a container comprises a circular closure plate (2, 4), integral with the outer edge of which is a depending skirt (8), integrally connected to the lower end of which by means of a resilient annular integral hinge (10) is an annular flange (12), which extends generally upwardly and inwardly. The closure also includes a cutter assembly which includes a cutting blade (38) and is mounted to rotate about the center of the closure plate (2, 4). The integral hinge (10) has a hole formed in it through which the cutting blade (38) extends. Rotation of the cutter assembly about the center of the closure plate thus results in cutting of the integral hinge (10) and thus in release of the closure plate (2, 4) and the depending skirt (8) from the annular flange (12).Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2007Date of Patent: February 21, 2012Assignee: Carbonite CorporationInventors: Matthew Eric Smith, Karl Mondszein

Publication number: 20110174642Abstract: A dispensing capsule has a diaphragm button, stake and frangible membrane for a system for selectively dispersing the contents of a cup into an attached bottle. A frangible membraned cup has a diaphragm button operably attached to a stake with the stake's sharp point at one end and the diaphragm button on the opposing end. A cavity is disposed in the cup for consumable product defined by side walls and a base plate. Preloaded ingredients contained within the hermetically sealed cup are discharged from the dispensing capsule into a bottle by simply depressing a button disposed on the diaphragm of the cup, thereby actuating the stake to thrust forward and apply concentrated pressure abaxially to the frangible membrane. A plastic closure has a base wall and a peripheral skirt with at least one internal thread for engagement with the at least one external thread on the finish in a child-resistant mode of operation. There is at least one locking lug on the skirt for releasable engagement with the release element on the container in the child-resistant mode of operation. An annular wall extends from the base wall in a direction opposite from the skirt.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2006Date of Patent: February 22, 2011Assignee: Rexam Prescription Products Inc.Inventor: Robert S. Publication number: 20110011820Abstract: Disclosed is a wine bottle cap assembly. When a resealed wine bottle is stored standing upright, an oxygen absorbent is located below a lower part of a cap body while being distanced from the cap body. Thus, oxygen, which is heavier than nitrogen and sinking downward, is rapidly removed. Even when the wine bottle is stored lying down, the oxygen absorbent does not sink into the wine, so oxygen absorption is efficiently performed.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 20, 2009Publication date: January 20, 2011Applicant: KOREA UNIVERSITY RESEARCH AND BUSINESS FOUNDATIONInventors: Hyun Jin Park, Jin Soo Lee, Sung Sik Han, Jin Young Yu, Jin Chul Lee, Ki Ho Yoo

Patent number: 7866497Abstract: A bottle security device locks onto a bottle neck to prevent theft of the bottle or its contents. The device includes a housing and a cap which receives a portion of the bottle neck and rotates relative to the housing. A spiraling cam surface provides a mechanism during rotation of the cap to move a securing member between a secured position to engage the bottle neck and an unsecured position to disengage from the bottle neck. A locking mechanism is provided to prevent rotation of the cap to keep the device locked on the bottle neck.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2007Date of Patent: January 11, 2011Assignee: Checkpoint Systems, Inc.Inventor: Dennis D. Publication number: 20110000870Abstract: A plastic closure including a bottom part and a lid that has an annular retaining bead in the bottom part. A disk having a support surface is held positively or non-positively in the bead. The disk includes one or more through-passages, which open into a chamber. A thixotropic fluid present in a flexible container reaches the chamber through the through-passages, where the fluid performs a directional change from axial to radial and after a second directional change from radial to axial flows out through the spout opening, wherein a constriction between the two directional changes accelerates the flow.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 26, 2008Publication date: January 6, 2011Applicant: Deltona Innovations AGInventor: Werner Dubach
