  • Patent number: 8746476
Abstract: A seal covering a discharge port of a container is opened without leaving superfluous elements on the container by a container closure unit which has seal-piercing knife-like elements mounted on a flexible dome-shaped base which is located to place the knife-like elements adjacent to the seal. The dome-shaped base is flexed to move the knife-like elements through the seal and then to move them outwardly toward the periphery of the seal to cut slits in the seal. The slits act as fluid passages to permit decanting of the fluid from the container. Once the seal has been opened, the dome-shaped base is removed using a pull ring and discarded. The container closure unit has a cap which is used to close the container discharge port between uses.

Abstract: The present closure is one that is actuated and opened indirectly. A force on a push pad causes the lid to open. There is no direct manual force applied to the lid to open the lid. The closure is comprised of a base section and a lid section. These are separate molded sections. These separate molded sections are attached after molding. The base section has the attachment to a container, structural integrity, a spout, and a lid actuator mechanism. The lid actuator mechanism is comprised of a strap with a push pad with an actuator rod at the end adjacent an actuator wall. The lid section has a spout closing section for the spout of the base section and an attachment fitting for attachment to the base section. The spout closing section is attached to the attachment fitting by living hinges, and preferably, preloaded living hinges. Such living hinges reduce the force to actuate. The closure is opened by pushing on a push pad which in turn causes the living hinges to be actuated and the lid snap opened.

  • Patent number: 5582309
Abstract: A bottle closing cap is disclosed that is openable merely by a finger pressure on a domed top side of the cap, whereby it is possible to provoke an expansion of a depending, axially preslit cap skirt portion of the cap. The cap can resist overpressure in the bottle because the ends of the skirt segments are stabilized against overlapping, e.g. in that at each slit (6) they are shaped with respective counterphased edges (12,14). Hereby the caps will be mountable by a fully conventional equipment and, despite being easy to open, they will resist a considerable pressure in the bottles.

  • Patent number: 5229127
Abstract: Quick miosis with 24 hour control of intraocular pressure of patients undergoing extracapsular cataract extraction surgery is achieved by applying to the eyes of the patient during surgery acetylcholine as a first miotic agent and carbachol as a second miotic agent. Acetylcholine provides quick miosis while carbachol enhances the miotic effect while providing post-surgery control of intraocular pressure. The two miotic agents can be dissolved in a common saline carrier. The two agents can be combined in a unit dosage package by disposing acetylcholine in powder form in a first compartment and a solution of carbachol in a second compartment. The combined miotic agent of the invention is especially useful when substances which raise IOP such as viscoelastic agents are used during ocular surgery and/or with sensitive patients who enter the surgery with elevated pressure such as those suffering from glaucoma.

  • Patent number: 5161706
Abstract: A twist and push snap-on, child resistant cap and container has an inner cap seal which is easily snapped onto a neck of a container and an outer cap. The outer cap has a top and sidewalls and has a greater cross-sectional area than the inner cap, and receives and physically restrains the inner cap within the outer cap such that the inner cap may be moved upwardly and downwardly within it over specified distance. The outer cap includes a locking lug located on its inside wall adapted to snap over a circumferential bead located on the neck of the container. There is a stop located on the inside wall of the outer cap and is freely rotatable about the neck of the container except when in contact with stop(s) on the neck of the container at its level of rotation when the outer cap is on the container. A spring mechanism located between the inner and outer cap so as to bias downwardly the inner cap.

  • Patent number: 5147059
Abstract: A seal for a container having an outwardly directed annular rim. The seal includes a top panel with a central section and an annular lever section integrally joined to the central section by a living hinge. A side wall integrally depends from the outer periphery of the lever section and includes an inwardly directed concavity for receiving the rim edge. A continuous convexity below the concavity provides for a snap-mounting of the seal to the container rim and a vertical skirt below the convexity provides for a guide for mounting the seal. A fulcrum rib depends from the undersurface of the lever section and engages the container rim on a depression of the top panel at the hinge to swing the side wall away from the rim. Vent openings are provided through both the fulcrum rib and the convexity to maintain pressure release air flow as the seal is mounted and removed.
