Patent number: 4896781Abstract: The present invention relates to a twist-to-remote crown cap for closing a container such as a beer bottle. The crown cap comprises a disk shaped top wall and a depending lateral skirt with long serrations bent against the skirt in a circumferential direction thereof to expose, each, a relatively flat flank surface. The flank surfaces of the serrations define a relatively smooth finger gripping surface preventing injury to fingers during the removal of the cap.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1988Date of Patent: January 30, 1990Inventor: Laval Simard

Patent number: 4798300Abstract: A bottle includes a mouth and a neck adjoining the mouth. The neck has helical ribs on the outside to permit application of a peripherally indented, screw-on crown. The main body of the bottle has a base, which is provided with an upward recess. A plurality of inwardly projecting ribs is provided around the periphery of the recess, each rib being convexly rounded and devoid of points, and having two concavely rounded shoulder portions on either side, so that stress concentration is minimized. The recess is sized to receive a peripherally indented crown of the same size as that receivable on the neck, so that the ribs register in at least some of the peripheral indentations. Thus, one bottle can serve as a crown remover for another, without a significant risk that the ribs will break or crack.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1988Date of Patent: January 17, 1989Assignee: Carling O'Keefe Breweries of Canada LimitedInventors: Asim Ghosh, Aram H. Patent number: 4782969Abstract: A tamper-proof closure is disclosed for use with a bottle having a neck, a lip with a downwardly and inwardly sloping peripheral wall and a plurality of outwardly extending ribs disposed at the juncture of the sloping wall and outer wall of the neck. The closure includes a top wall, a depending ribbed skirt and a plurality of rectangular tabs extending from the bottom edge of the skirt between each pair of ribs. The tabs are bent inwardly and upwardly and include a serrated edge for engagement with the ribs on the bottle. When the cap is applied, the tabs form compressive members holding the lid in sealed position against the bottle neck. The closure is removed by twisting, which causes the tabs to be shifted outwardly beyond the bottle ribs so that the cap can be lifted from the bottle. The closure cannot be reapplied since, during removal, the tabs have been bent outwardly to a point where they can no longer engage the bottle ribs.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1987Date of Patent: November 8, 1988Assignee: Product Investment IncorporatedInventor: John C. Patent number: RE36334Abstract: A tamper-proof closure for use with a bottle having a neck, a lip, and shelf surrounding the neck and a plurality of ramp sections. The closure includes a top wall, a skirt and a plurality of tabs extending from the bottom edge of the skirt. The tabs include first and second side edges and a transverse edge. The tab is longer adjacent to one side edge than the other. The ramp sections include an upwardly sloping portion of the shelf and a cam wall extending across the shelf from the neck to the outer edge of the shelf.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1995Date of Patent: October 12, 1999Assignee: Product Investment, Inc.Inventor: John C.
