Patent number: 9096356Abstract: A container assembly including a container and a closure. The container includes a polymeric body and a polymeric finish. The polymeric finish includes a plurality of threads. The closure includes a plurality of metallic lugs configured to cooperate with the plurality of threads to couple the closure to the polymeric finish.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: August 4, 2015Assignee: Amcor LimitedInventors: Peter Bates, Bradley Wilson, Richard Steih, Luke A. Patent number: 8485374Abstract: A plastic closure is disclosed which is configured for enhanced performance and reduced closure weight. Notably, the closure includes a compound, internal helical thread formation including an upper retention portion which provides desired closure hoop strength and sealing performance, and a lower guide portion which is configured for light weight while functioning to guide the closure onto an associated container during application. The closure can further include a stepped top wall portion having a relatively thick outer region, and a relatively thin central region. A tamper-evident band of the closure can be configured to include a deformable free edge portion for enhanced tamper-resistance.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2010Date of Patent: July 16, 2013Assignee: Closure Systems International, Inc.Inventors: Dave Gevers, Pranav M. Patent number: 5950851Abstract: A safety closure including a top wall having a first diameter, an outer cylindrical shell depending downwardly from the top wall first diameter, an inner cylindrical shell depending downwardly from a second diameter of the top wall, and a retaining flange projecting inwardly and downwardly from a lower edge of said inner shell opposite said top wall. The inner shell second diameter is less than the top wall outer diameter, and the inner shell is coaxial with the outer shell. The retaining flange is engageable with an underside surface of a locking bead provided on an external surface of the container neck, thereby maintaining a constant downwardly-directed axial force being imposed on the safety closure, which results in a constant upwardly-directed radial force being imposed on the sealing gasket by an upper terminal lip of the container neck.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1997Date of Patent: September 14, 1999Assignee: Rexam Plastics Inc.Inventors: Christopher B. Clodfelter, William D. Sprick

Patent number: 5211301Abstract: A spooning closure generally comprising a skirt a top, a spooning opening and a hinged spooning lid which is adapted to pivot from a closed position to an open spooning position. A locking means is provided, which is adapted to securely and releasably lock the spooning lid in the closed position. The locking means comprises a tongue and a friction engaging slot. It may further comprise an arcuate latch projection which extends at an acute angle to the spooning lid bottom surface and a cooperating keeper which partially defines the spooning opening and is formed by an arcuate cantilever. Also provided is a reinforcing web extending from the bottom of the spooning lid.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1992Date of Patent: May 18, 1993Assignee: Magenta CorporationInventors: Robert J. Patent number: 4057160Abstract: A self-retaining stopper for bottle containing pressurized contents such as champagne is disclosed. The stopper is especially adapted to cooperate with a bottle finish having a plurality of raised helical ribs of substantially uniform width and uniform maximum height spaced regularly around the circumference of the finish. The stopper comprises a shank for sealable insertion into the neck of such a bottle and a cup-shaped crown defining a resilient skirt overlying the finish. The skirt includes a plurality of inwardly projecting nodular protrusions for engaging the lower side of the helical ribs upon the inwardly directed urging of the resilient skirt. The inner wall of the skirt further includes a plurality of webs disposed to encounter the upper rim of the finish. The nodular protrusions and the webs are spaced apart a predetermined distance to secure the stopper in an axially locked position against the high pressures encountered within the bottle without the need for safety wiring or the like.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1976Date of Patent: November 8, 1977Assignee: E. & J.
