  • Patent number: 7431168
Abstract: The present development is for a closure which provides a liner for abutting a surface and maintaining an effective pressure against a peelable seal affixed to a container lip as the sealed container is exposed to relatively high temperature and pressure conditions. The liner which abuts a surface of the seal sandwiches the seal between the liner and the container lip. The liner defines a resting thickness at ambient temperature and pressure conditions and is made from a material capable of being compressed to a thickness less than the resting thickness and of recovering to a recovery thickness sufficient to allow the liner to maintain a positive pressure against the seal upon exposure to elevated temperatures, elevated pressure, or a combination of elevated temperature and elevated pressure.

Abstract: Described is a closure for a container. The closure element has a sealing element which contains a thermoplastic polymer; an effective absorbing amount of a cyclodextrin material; and at least one amide lubricant. The cyclodextrin material may be ?-cyclodextrin, ?-cyclodextrin, ?-cyclodextrin, derivatives of ?-cyclodextrin, derivatives of ?-cyclodextrin and derivatives of ?-cyclodextrin and mixtures thereof. The sealing element forms an effective barrier against volatile migrant contaminants, such as aromatic substances, trichloroanisole, aldehydes or ketones, and reduces the contamination with oxidative decomposition products resulting from the lubricant.

  • Patent number: 7380678
Abstract: The invention relates to a lid (1) and a method of opening the lid which is used for closing a container (15) having means on the inner side of screwing on to the neck (2) of a container. Internally, the lid has an inner lid (5) which is secured in the lid (1) by at least one securing means. The object of the invention is to provide a lid which is easy to open without using a great force or by using a tool, and which may simultaneously be disposed of without significant environmental impact. This is achieved by a lid (1) whose collar (3) has at least one projection (13) which points radially toward the centre and which extends from the inner side of the collar (3), wherein, during unscrewing of the lid (1), the projection (13) presses the edge of the inner lid (5) at least at one point out of contact with the upper edge of the package neck. This ensures venting of the volume of the container with a relatively weak torque.

  • Patent number: 7168581
Abstract: The present development is for a closure which provides a means for maintaining an effective pressure against a peelable seal affixed to a container lip as the sealed container is exposed to relatively high temperature and pressure conditions. The closure includes a liner which abuts a surface of the seal so as to sandwich the seal between the liner and the container lip. The resilient liner and inner foil seal are positioned above a retaining structure and function such that the peelable seal will not rotate relative to a container rim upon engaging the container rim as the closure is rotationally applied. This functions to inhibit torque transmission from the closure to the inner seal or reseal structure and further inhibits imperfections in the container rim from scraping or otherwise damaging the inner seal.

Abstract: A beverage container closure includes a cap and a monolithic cap liner having concentric first and second seal rings coupled to the cap. The concentric first and second seal rings are adapted to mate with an annular rim provided on the neck of a beverage container and formed to include an open mouth to allow liquids to flow through the neck into and out of the beverage container. At least one of the seal rings is splayed relative to the annular rim during installation of the cap on the container neck to form a seal between the cap and the beverage container.

  • Patent number: 6435426
Abstract: A pressure proof gasket plate for use with a cup and special or modified lid assembly for a spray gun, consisting of a cup with a first end configured with fittings suitable for attachment to the feed port of the spray gun and a second end with a large opening for access and filling, and a domed lid, with an external mechanism for providing a compressive attachment of the lid to the cup with the gasket plate in between. The floating gasket plate has a compressible gasket configured on its inside surface so as to form a seal when it contacts the edge of the cup as the lid is applied to the cup. The floating gasket plate is sealed to the cup by pressure on its periphery as applied by the domed lid. The floating gasket plate is made of such material and thickness as to resist deflection and deformation under normal working pressure of the spray gun.

  • Patent number: 6382441
Abstract: A closure assembly is provided that includes an outer cap with a skirt dimensioned to telescope over the open top end of the tube. An annular shoulder extends inwardly from the top end of the skirt and includes an aperture through which a needle may be directed. A laminated seal is bonded to the bottom surface of the annular shoulder of the outer cap and extends continuously across the aperture in the annular shoulder. A stopper is secured on the bottom surface of the annular seal and is dimensioned for sealing engagement in the open top of the tube. Outer circumferential portions of the bottom surface of the laminated seal between the skirt and the stopper are bonded to the open top end of the tube. The bond between the closure and the laminated seal is stronger than the bond between the tube and the laminated seal. Thus, the closure assembly retains its structural integrity after opening of the tube and can be used to reseal the tube.

Abstract: A separating closure liner comprises a laminate construction of a reusable liner portion and an inner seal portion, each separated by a light tack shearable adhesive. The light tack shearable adhesive enables the reusable liner portion to break away from the inner seal portion after it has been sealed to a container neck. The reusable liner portion remains in the closure of the container for sealing purposes. Use of the light tack shearable adhesive permits the use of polyolefin foamed materials as a reusable liner portion.

Abstract: A plastic closure that comprises a cap having a base with a peripheral skirt defining the cap interior and threads on the skirt for securing the closure to a container. A liner is secured to the interior of the cap, preferably by being compression molded in situ on the base. The liner consists essentially of a multiplicity of alternating layers of a matrix polymer material such as EVA and a barrier material such as EVOH to resist transmission of gas, water vapor and/or flavorants through the liner. The matrix polymer material preferably is preblended with a compatibilizer material such as a maleic anhydride grafted polymer that ties the matrix polymer material to the barrier material.
