Abstract: A dispensing-sealing arrangement (10) is disclosed for a container (12) comprising a resiliently deformable dispensing apparatus typically in the form of a teat (14) connected about opening (16) of the container (12). The teat (14) is provided with an outlet (18) for dispensing matter contained in the container (12). Cap (20) is provided with a skirt (22) for insertion into the opening (16) for sealing the container (12). • Patent number: 5605241
Abstract: A device for controllably retaining a liquid to prevent spillage when the bottle is tilted or inverted for positioning the bottle to discharge the container's liquid contents into the intended orifice. The hydraulically operated plug forms an air tight seal with the smooth inner surface of the neck of the container, permitting the container to be inverted and positioned over the intended receptacle without releasing any fluid. Upon squeezing the flexible container, the lid is forced from the container by the hydraulic pressure exerted on the inner surface of the lid, permitting the liquid to pour freely from the container into the intended receptacle. A tether attaching the plug to an exterior location on the container allows the plug to fall clear of the stream of flow while preventing the plug from becoming lost.

Abstract: To permit a container and a cap to remate with each other during resealing without fouling by solid debris such as small particles without exceptional preparations to withstand the deteriorating effects of corrosive materials and solvents and to consistently and quickly form a gas-tight seal, the container has a flat angled surface and the cap has cooperating edge that engages the flat surface in a closed line when the cap is fully inserted with a solid closed surface within the line, the closed line having a width perpendicular to its length within a range of 0.5 millimeters to 1.5 millimeters. The cap is closed by screw threads or the like that force the cooperating surfaces together with a pressure of at least 100 psi at an angle of between 75 degrees and 105 degrees.

  • Patent number: 5316054
Abstract: A self-contained package for housing, dispensing and diluting concentrated liquid with a predetermined quantity of dilution liquid prior to use. The package comprises a container for housing the concentrated liquid, a spout having a discharge orifice, and a closure. The spout aids the user in controlling the flow of liquid from the container during the dispensing cycle. The closure includes a concentrate reservoir for receiving concentrated liquid from the container and a main body portion for receiving dilution liquid after the concentrate reservoir has been filled with the concentrated liquid. The main body portion of the closure has a cross-section which is larger than the cross-section of the concentrate reservoir to facilitate easy visual sighting when the concentrate reservoir is filled. The concentrate reservoir further includes a centrally located sealing post which penetrates the discharge orifice in the spout to form a liquid tight seal whenever the closure is fully assembled onto the container.

Abstract: A closure or cap for a reagent container for use in an analysis system in which an automatic pipetting device is used for transferring small quantities of reagent from the reagent container to reaction cells. In order to simplify the process of handling the reagent container in an automatic analysis system, the closure is characterized in that it is formed in one piece from a plastic and it has a cylindrical side wall and an annular top wall adjacent the side wall and merging into a conical wall which extends inwards from the inner circle of the top wall and ends in a piercable tip situated on the axis of symmetry of the cylindrical wall.

  • Patent number: 5294011
Abstract: The open end of a cylindrical housing which may be an evacuable housing, for example a tube for storing blood samples, is closed by means of a cap having an annular wall surrounding the open end of the housing and a seal extending into the cap and the housing. For secure sealing of the housing, the cap is connected by means of a coupling device either to the seal or to the housing or both of these.

  • Patent number: 5288466
Abstract: A container assembly is provided for collecting capillary blood from a lanced wound. The container includes an integral lip for facilitating collection from the wound with the entire length of the container from lip to curved closed end being substantially the same large diameter for rapid collection before coagulation. The container includes an annular integral skirt enclosing the rounded bottom of the container to provide an annular stable surface for maintaining the container upright on a flat surface to facilitate subsequent examination of the collected blood. A cap for the assembly includes an annular space for receiving the top edge of the container in sealing engagement. This same annular space in the cap receives the annular bottom surface of the container skirt to join the two parts together when the container is open. The cap, in turn, includes an annular skirt for holding the open assembly in stable erect position on a flat surface.

  • Patent number: 5275287
Abstract: A molded screw-threaded plastics closure has depending from the underside of the top an annular sealing portion spaced inward of the skirt. The sealing portion includes a plug part with a sealing rib for engaging the internal surface of the neck of a container, a radially outwardly projecting flange above the plug part, and a waisted pivot part disposed between the flange and the top. As the closure is applied, the sealing rib first moves into sealing engagement with the bore of the neck of the container, and then the flange comes into engagement with the top of the neck of the container and causes the sealing portion to pivot outwards about the part to tighten the seal. An internal rib on the skirt engages the outer surface of the neck of the container to form a secondary seal. Forms of stop may be provided for limiting the movement of the closure and/or the pivotal deflection of the sealing portion to prevent over-tightening during application of the closure.
