Drinking Device Patents (Class 215/387)
  • Patent number: 8196764
Abstract: It is related to a liquid container, which may be in the shape of a bottle with an elongated section at its top in a first position and is convertible to a glass or goblet in a second position with the elongated section at the bottom. The liquid container may be a wine container, which can be a wine bottle in its first position and also be a wine glass in its second position. Conversion between the first and second positions can be achieved via a relatively simple and instant way, such as turning a container in one position upside down and placing the container in another position. Such conversion may not need additional process such as disassembling and/or reassembling the container.

  • Patent number: 8191727
Abstract: Drink containers with mouthpiece assemblies having a dispensing configuration and a stowed configuration. A mouthpiece assembly defines a liquid passage through which drink liquid may be dispensed when the mouthpiece assembly is in the dispensing configuration and includes means for selectively restricting the flow of drink liquid through the liquid passage when the mouthpiece assembly is in the stowed configuration. In some examples, the means for selectively restricting the flow of drink liquid include a tube that at least partially defines the liquid passage and which includes a crimping region. The crimping region may be constructed of a resiliently and reversibly deformable material that is adapted to restrict the flow of drink liquid through the liquid passage when the mouthpiece assembly is in the stowed configuration. In some embodiments, the mouthpiece assembly includes a means for automatically releasing the mouthpiece assembly from its stowed configuration to a dispensing configuration.

  • Patent number: 8177085
Abstract: A tooth protector device is disclosed for attachment to the top of a glass bottle to provide protection against injury, including chipping of teeth that can occur during drinking from a glass bottle. One embodiment comprises a monolithic structure for insertion into the mouth of a glass bottle and comprises inner, outer and top portions. The inner portion and the outer portion are substantially concentric structures defining an annulus for engaging the mouth of the bottle, and the top portion joins the inner and outer portions and protects the consumer from the top edge of the bottle. The length of the outer portion is selected such that the bottom part of the consumer's mouth is protected from the bottle. When installed, a tooth protector according to the present invention cushions the teeth and mouth from any blunt force or impulse that can occur when a bottle is hit or blocked.

  • Patent number: 7959029
Abstract: A splash and spill resistant insulating lid for beverage containers comprising an insulated splash and spill barrier integrated into a cup lid combination. This is achieved by creating a barrier and/or labyrinth flow path, which buffers and deflects sloshing liquid. Accidental/incidental release of liquid is minimized and/or prevented while allowing the normal flow of liquid for drinking. These features of the SSRIL further create an insulating barrier to keep a cup's fluid hotter or cooler for a longer period of time, enhanced by using an appropriate insulating material combined with finite number of transfer holes that are of a specific shape and/or specific location and/or specific orientation to promote the formation of a surface tension film of fluid across the transfer holes, creating additional barriers against the escape and exchange of both fluid and vapor outside the cup.

Abstract: A device is fitted with a pouring tube which can be raised after opening a blocking-off cover and which can then be folded back down, as also can the cover, to close the container again hermetically so as to preserve a remaining portion of the beverage for consumption at a later time. A locking arrangement which breaks when the cover is opened for the first time tells the purchaser or consumer that the container is intact or that it has already been opened. The present security closure device always keeps the pouring tube in a hygienic state of a standard appropriate for foodstuffs and keeps the contents of the container free of any soiling or external contamination. The security closure device, which is small in thickness, is simple to fix to the top of any current container and, in particular to any carton made of cardboard or a similar material.

Abstract: Sipper cap (10) includes a cap section (30) with a housing, a nozzle (50) reciprocally movable in the housing and an overcap (70). The sipper cap is adapted to provide a releasable single point seal between the housing and the nozzle capable of preventing passage of liquid through the sipper. The cap section (30) has a neck section (38) that provides a vertical guide for movement of the nozzle member. The point seal is formed between the end of angle surface (44) of an inwardly directed extension (43) and sealing face (57b) on the outer wall of the nozzle (50). The extension (43) also engages with a retention part (56) on a seal piercing part (54) to prevent removal of the nozzle (50) from the sipper cap. The overcap (70) and cap section (30) can each have a tamper evident ring (71, 34).

Abstract: A reusable container identification band for enabling a user to visually identify a personal container when it is intermingled with identical containers in use by other consumers is provided. The identification band of the present invention includes a tubular body, an upper edge, a lower edge, an inner surface, an outer surface, and a central aperture defined by the inner surface, and the upper and lower edges. Upper and lower edges are continuous curves, of substantially the same length when the tubular body is in a contracted, resting position during non-use. The outer surface of the identification band includes images or other indicia for visually distinguishing between a plurality of bands when used by multiple consumers at the same event. Users of the container identification band may conveniently wear the band on their person such as on their wrist as a fashion accessory when not in use on a container.

  • Patent number: 7207968
Abstract: A gravity-fed drinking dispenser for unassisted self-administration of liquids by a bedridden user includes a non-pressurized liquid container adapted to be positioned above the user's head, a flexible tubing assembly connected therewith with a mouthpiece at its free end, and a normally closed solenoid valve between the container and the mouthpiece which, when opened, allows liquid to flow by gravity to the mouthpiece. A low-voltage D.C. electrical source connected with the solenoid valve supplies direct current thereto. Operation of the solenoid valve is controlled by an ergonomic pressure-sensitive microswitch connected between the power source and the solenoid valve, which has a generally oval-shaped housing with a bulbous upper portion shaped to receive the palm of the user and allow the user to put their fingers around it and actuate the microswitch by applying light pressure thereto for unassisted self-administration of liquids.

  • Patent number: RE43077
Abstract: An improved no-spill cup construction and valve assembly which provides an extremely secure seal against accidental liquid flow from the cup spout. The act of sucking at the cup spout creates negative pressure or a partial vacuum against a valve near the spout, causing the valve to invert which unblocks an opening in the valve. When the opening is unblocked, liquid can flow freely through the valve and spout. When not in use, the valve sits in a resting, closed position, with the valve pressed against a center seal-off, sealing off the opening in the valve assembly. The closed position provides an extremely secure seal against fluid leakage, such that inadvertent spills or even deliberate attempts to force liquid outside of the cup, such as by turning the cup upside down, or shaking the cup, are ineffective. The cup assembly further allows liquid flow to be regulated between regular or maximum flow and minimal flow levels or rates by rotating the position of the valve assembly in the cover of the cup.
