Cushioned Patents (Class 217/34)
  • Patent number: 5785239
Abstract: A carton divider having vertically oriented longitudinal partitions and vertically oriented transverse partitions interengaged to form a grid of cells for receiving glass containers or the like. Adjacent cells share a wall having opposing faces, and a vertically extending reinforcing strip is mounted only on a medial portion of at least one of the opposing faces of each wall. The reinforcing strips thus provide adequate cushioning protection for the containers to be packaged in the carton, while minimizing the amount of the material required to fabricated the partitions.

  • Patent number: 4251006
Abstract: Lightweight, strong, thermoplastic foamed crates for storage and shipment of tender or fragile materials, especially produce such as fruit and vegetables, are prepared from (a) an extruded base and side panel structural foamed thermoplastics and (b) end plates and a divider or dividers which are injection molded foamed thermoplastic materials. This combination of materials reduces the number of molds and molding operations required to provide a large number of containers, since only end pieces and dividers need be molded and carried in inventory. The containers may also have perforated end plates to provide for ventilation or cooling as well as a ridged base or flooring to provide drainage and containment for juices of decaying produce. In addition to providing superior insulating qualities regarding loss of heat or refrigeration, the all-foam crate construction provides improved vibration dampening characteristics which in turn prevent bruising or breakage of tender or fragile items during transportation.

  • Patent number: 4192421
Abstract: An improved cushion pad is disclosed for use in packaging glassware or other fragile articles in a compartmented carton. Such cartons, including the well known corrugated fiberboard cartons, are used with vertical dividers for packaging articles having extending extremities such as glass stemware, whose projecting feet and flaring tops may project into adjacent compartments and engage and chip or crack one another. The cushions of this invention have preformed grooves to receive the tops and bottoms of the dividers causing the extremities of the articles to be positioned away from the spaces between dividers thereby preventing them from striking one another during carton handling.
