  • Patent number: 12103108
Abstract: Systems (100) and methods (1000) for additively manufacturing or repairing a component from a base material (10). The system may include a laser metal deposition (LMD) system (200) operably connected to a means for cooling (300) the base material during laser processing of additive materials deposited in a melt pool on the base material. The LMD system includes a laser energy source (202) configured to direct laser energy towards the base material to form the melt pool thereon and to processes the deposited additive materials to form layers on the base material upon solidification. The means for cooling may be configured to cool the base material to within a cooling temperature range during the LMD process, which results in, e.g., a cooling/freezing effect. This cooling effect shortens the solidification period during laser processing and allows for weld heat to be released from the base material.

Abstract: A method for heat-based control of a surveillance system is provided. The method may include detecting a first pattern of heat transferred from a heat source based on a first sensor dataset corresponding to a first event, determining an expected pattern of heat to be transferred from the heat source during a second event based on the first pattern of heat transfer, and generating a surveillance model based on the expected pattern of heat transfer. The method may further include detecting a second pattern of heat transferred from the heat source based on a second sensor dataset corresponding to the second event, detecting the heat source during the second event with respect to the second pattern of heat transfer, and determining a threat level corresponding to a security risk posed by the heat source with respect to the environment.

  • Patent number: 10272523
Abstract: To increase cycle time, and therefore to lower production costs, in the industrial production of welded sheet metal parts—in particular tailored blanks for the automotive industry—the invention describes a method based on a constant-speed conveying system and a flying optics system, which method manages without complex cooling of the hot weld seam and uses means for holding the workpieces on one side with a high force on the conveyor belt. In this way it is possible greatly to reduce the negative influence the blank spacing has on the cycle time of the machine. Overall, fewer drives are required in the machine and it is possible for a simplified machine concept to be employed without detriment to the quality of the blanks to be welded.

  • Patent number: 8933368
Abstract: A modified region is accurately formed at a desirable position with respect to a laser light irradiation surface of an object to be processed. When an average difference ? has a value exceeding a predetermined threshold during trace recording, a particle segment Z including a line segment S where the average difference ? exceeds the predetermined threshold is defined. This determines that a particle exists on a line to cut 5 and randomly reflects measuring laser light, whereby a segment where the presence of the particle affects a control signal in a line segment to cut is detected as the particle segment Z. Correcting the control signal in the particle segment Z inhibits a converging lens from moving more than necessary because of an error included in the signal value under the influence of the presence of the particle, thus allowing the converging point of the processing laser light to accurately follow a front face 3.

  • Patent number: 7372059
Abstract: Various mechanisms are provided relating to plasma-based light source that may be used for lithography as well as other applications. For example, a device is disclosed for producing extreme ultraviolet (EUV) light based on a sheared plasma flow. The device can produce a plasma pinch that can last several orders of magnitude longer than what is typically sustained in a Z-pinch, thus enabling the device to provide more power output than what has been hitherto predicted in theory or attained in practice. Such power output may be used in a lithography system for manufacturing integrated circuits, enabling the use of EUV wavelengths on the order of about 13.5 nm. Lastly, the process of manufacturing such a plasma pinch is discussed, where the process includes providing a sheared flow of plasma in order to stabilize it for long periods of time.

  • Patent number: 6906280
Abstract: A fast pulsed nonthermal plasma reactor includes a discharge cell and a charging assembly electrically connected thereto. The charging assembly provides plural high voltage pulses to the discharge cell. Each pulse has a rise time between one and ten nanoseconds and a duration of three to twenty nanoseconds. The pulses create nonthermal plasma discharge within the discharge cell. Accordingly, the nonthermal plasma discharge can be used to remove pollutants from gases or break the gases into smaller molecules so that they can be more efficiently combusted.

  • Patent number: 6894298
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and an arrangement for generating extreme ultraviolet (EUV) radiation, i.e., radiation of high-energy photons in the wavelength range from 11 to 14 nm, based on a gas discharge. The object of the invention, to find a novel possibility for generating EUV radiation in which an extended life of the system is achieved with stable generation of a dense, hot plasma column, is met according to the invention in that a preionization discharge is ignited between two parallel disk-shaped flat electrodes prior to the main discharge by a surface discharge along the superficies surface of a cylindrical insulator with a plasma column generated through the gas discharge with pulsed direct voltage, which preionization discharge carries out an ionization of the working gas in the discharge chamber by means of fast charged particles.
