  • Patent number: 9227266
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a seam welding warpage prevention method and apparatus capable of preventing warpage caused by cooling contraction after welding, in a case where workpieces are different from one another in material and thickness, and thus not uniform in thermal contraction. In the seam welding warpage prevention method for welding a plurality of workpieces W1 and W2 that are not uniform in thermal contraction with respect to an energizing direction, the workpieces W1 and W2 are clamped with a pair of roller electrodes 23 and 33 while applying current. The welding is performed in a state where the roller electrode 33 that abuts on the workpiece W2 having higher thermal contraction is offset in an advancing direction ahead of the roller electrode 23 that abuts on the workpiece W1 having lower thermal contraction.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a strong orthopaedic wire (30). A block (20) has an opening (26) with an interior diameter which is slightly larger than an outside diameter (28) of the wire (30). The wire (30) is placed within the opening (26) such that an end (36) of the wire (30) extends a predetermined distance (40) above the block (20). The extending end (36) is heated (e.g. by applying an electric current) until the metal from which the wire is made reaches the wire melting point. The molten metal is allowed to fall via gravitational force against the block (20), whereby the extending end (36) forms an enlarged end (42) on the wire (30).

  • Patent number: 5672283
Abstract: An apparatus and method for making welded mesh forms (10) having a stationary center beam (12) and an adjustable center beam (14). Two adjustable side beams (36 and 38) and one adjustable bottom beam and clamp (20) are provided so that any number of circular, arched, and/or elliptical wire mesh forms may be created. Once the desired shape has been properly formed by adjustment, a wire mesh (44) is inserted in between the adjustable clamps contained on the beams. A centering/positioning device (62) then grips the mesh along one free longitudinal edge and holds the wire mesh (44) in place as the clamps are clamped to the wire mesh (44) in clockwise sequence. This clockwise sequence adjusts the prerolled wire mesh (44) and creates a perfectly formed wire mesh (44) in the shape and diameter desired.

Abstract: Making wire screens using high carbon steel wire. A first array of wires are placed in a longitudinal configuration and a second array of wires are placed transversely of said first array. The junctions where the wires meet are heated to a temperature of from about 700.degree. F. to about 1000.degree. F. for a time sufficient to disperse heat to adjacent wire areas but insufficient to cause wire fusion. A current is then applied to these junctions sufficient to cause fusion or welding of the junctions. Subsequently, a post weld heat of at least 1575.degree. F. is applied to the wires sufficient to form pearlite in substantial amounts.

Abstract: A method for welding copper to a ferrous alloy is provided in which an end of the copper wire, either in a single conductor form or a plurality of strands, is exposed to an electrical discharge to form a globule that is generally spherical. The generally spherical globule is then placed in contact with a generally flat surface of a ferrous allow terminal. Very slight pressure is provided to avoid deforming the spherical copper globule as a current is passed through both the globule and the ferrous alloy terminal.
