  • Patent number: 8689995
Abstract: Two embodiments of a molded plastic container/closure combination are described. Each can be structured to provide a child resistant opening feature and, optionally, a tamper-evident feature. In both embodiments, the closure has radially extending bayonets arranged around an outer skirt, which bayonets can be rotated into a position underlying semi-annular ribs in a beam molded integrally with the sidewall of the container. Rotation of the closure in the unlocking direction is opposed by a structure which requires depression of a release tab downwardly. In one embodiment, depression of the release tab requires that a frangible element first be fractured and removed from the container sidewall. In the second embodiment, depressing the release tab is made possible by a living hinge formed on one side of the release tab.

The lid is formed of plastic and comprises a center portion, and a flexible skirt extending downwardly from an outer periphery of the center portion. The skirt includes a radially inwardly projecting annular restriction ring adapted to be positioned beneath the cup brim. The skirt includes a plurality of threads spaced apart circumferentially around the skirt. Each thread extends generally helically upwardly from a location disposed between the restriction ring and a bottom edge of the skirt. The threads intersect the restriction ring to form circumferentially spaced caesurae in the restriction ring.

  • Patent number: 6015054
Abstract: The invention provides container closure assemblies, especially for carbonated beverage containers, having substantially helical second thread segment (20) with a profiled lower thread surface (24). The profiled lower thread surface (24) includes a first, lower region (28) with a low pitch and a second region (30) with a steep pitch. The thread (20) may also include a step feature (32) to block unscrewing of the closure at an intermediate position where gas venting can take place, and a third region (34) of the said lower surface having a low pitch adjacent to the step. The closures are easy to apply and remove, and do not blow off unpredictably or uncontrollably under pressure.

  • Patent number: 5967352
Abstract: A container neck is used with a tamper-evident, snap-on, screw-off closure. The neck has a multiple of four first helical threads on a neck stretch portion, and at least one external ratchet tooth on a locking wall portion below the neck stretch. The closure has an upper skirt having second helical threads mating with the first helical thread of the neck and a lower skirt with at least one internal ratchet tooth shaped and positioned to engage the external ratchet tooth when the closure is applied to the neck. The teeth formed on the skirt interior and neck exterior are arranged to provide at least one circumferentially extending stretch of the tamper-evident band where the teeth are not engaged. A line of weakness extending vertically through the disengaged stretch of the tamper-evident band is ruptured when the closure is unscrewed from the neck. The number of helical threads is preferably eight and, in any event, a multiple of four.

  • Patent number: 5768976
Abstract: A device for automatically locking or unlocking the pressure lid in electric pressure cookers is disclosed. In the above device, a drive gear which is fixed to the output shaft of a reversible motor gears into a spur gear of the lock ring. A contact protrusion which is provided on the peripheral edge of the lock ring selectively comes into contact with either lock or unlock sensing switches in accordance with a rotating motion of the lock ring, thereby turning on the switch and automatically locking or unlocking the inward protrusions of the lock ring relative to the outward protrusions of the pressure lid. The above device is thus convenient to the user. The device does not have any handle lever exposed outside the cooker, thus neither causing a difficulty in packing the cooker nor spoiling the appearance of the cooker.

  • Patent number: 5711447
Abstract: A twist-on/twist-off resealable assembly for a can-end, such as a metal can used in the beverage industry includes a first set of knuckles formed on the can body near its top opening. A plurality of cooperating fingers on the inside of the can lid engage the knuckles so that the lid is tightened by its progressive downward motion as the lid is rotated. The lid also includes a weakened or frangible portion for forming a straw opening. A second set of knuckles are located below the top set of knuckles for engagement by fingers extending from a pilfer-proof ring. The twist-off can lid may be made from the same metal as the can body or alternatively from a transparent plastic material or a combination of metal and plastic.

  • Patent number: 5480045
Abstract: A blow molded container has a cylindrical neck portion with novel seven circumferentially spaced continuous spiral thread configurations on its exterior to immediately receive and engage an improved tamper indicating flexible cap comprising a top with an annular depending wall on its peripheral edge and seven circumferentially spaced continuous spiral thread configurations on the inner surface of the annular depending wall. The novel constructions enable the tamper indicating flexible cap to immediately engage the lead-in ends of the seven circumferentially spaced thread patterns on the exterior of the neck of the container without the heretofore necessary rotation of the prior art caps in order to engage the single spiral thread configuration on the neck of the container.
