Patent number: 4971219Abstract: A removable cap for closing the filler neck of a fuel tank for an internal combustion engine. The cap includes a one piece gasket and baffle member which not only provides a fluid seal between the cap and the filler neck, but also permits venting of the fuel tank through the gasket. The one piece member includes an annular flat gasket portion integrally formed on the outer periphery of a dome-shaped baffle member projecting downwardly from the inner surface of the cap. Venting is accomplished by means of at least one vent opening extending through the dome-shaped baffle member which in turn communicates via a vent chamber to a passageway formed through the gasket. The passageway in turn communicates with a non-sealing threaded interconnection between the cap and filler neck. A splash guard is also located beneath the baffle member to aid in preventing fuel from splashing through the vent openings in the baffle member.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1989Date of Patent: November 20, 1990Assignee: Briggs & Stratton CorporationInventors: Wayne L. Patent number: 4966780Abstract: Packaging for coffee which is to be packed as quickly as is feasible after roasting, i.e., without undergoing substantial off gassing. The packaging preferably comprises a semi-rigid, substantially gas-impervious container capable of withstanding the pressures generated by the release of carbon dioxide and other gases from the fresh roasted coffee in the container. The semi-rigid container is preferably comprised of plastic and predetermined portions of the container are preferably capable of undergoing limited deformation. This prevents instability of the base of the container, thereby keeping its vertical axis erect, and ensures that the container does not become jammed within the shipping case in which it is transported due to lateral expansion.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1989Date of Patent: October 30, 1990Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Peter J. Patent number: 4170320Abstract: An improved beverage container for dispensing carbonated beverages, for example. The container is provided with a housing shell having a lid of unique design, and also an interior apertured container suitable for receiving dry ice or other solid cooling agent. This interior apertured container is uniquely provided with an annular wall having slots that can be readily produced in an injection molding operation. A ring is provided both to preserve the integrity of this interior container and also to serve as a support for co-action with a lid of the beverage housing shell. The housing shell itself is provided with a lid having a baffle, the same being provided with gas vents and having a baffle beneath such vents for preventing the contained fluid from sloshing about proximate the vents and also for generally retaining foam beneath the baffle area.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1977Date of Patent: October 9, 1979Inventor: Lee J. Patent number: 4168012Abstract: Disclosed herein is a cap assembly for a fuel tank including a cap having a top wall with a vent opening therethrough, a cylindrical side wall depending from the top wall, a generally cylindrical wall depending from the top wall and inside of the side wall, and defining a recess therein, and an insert in the recess. The insert includes a hollow generally cylindrical member defining a bore having opposite ends, one of the ends being closed and the other of the ends being open and adjacent the top wall with the bore being in fluid communication with the vent opening. The insert also includes an annular flange surrounding the generally cylindrical member intermediate its opposite ends, the flange having a periphery engaging the cylindrical wall, and a hole in the flange for providing fluid communication between the fuel tank and the recess.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1978Date of Patent: September 18, 1979Assignee: Outboard Marine CorporationInventor: Jack W. Patent number: 4157707Abstract: A utensil adapted to be positioned upon the rim of a cooking vessel has two annular channels, one open toward the center, the other open toward the top. The upper wall of the first channel defines the bottom of the second channel. A plurality of apertures in the bottom of the second channel communicate with the first channel, these apertures being closer to the outer than to the inner wall of the second channel.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1977Date of Patent: June 12, 1979Inventors: Heinz F. Patent number: 4148250Abstract: A means provided for exhausting vapors from a cooker for steam cooking rice and/or other foodstuffs contained in a cooking pot wherein the water in the cooker is heated by a heater provided within the main body of the cooker. The means includes a cylindrical member which forms a hole in an inner lid of the cooking pot, which hole communicates with the interior of the cooking pot, an annular wall around said cylindrical member, an annular vapor guide member suspended from the outer lid down between said cylindrical member and annular wall, back flow holes provided in the inner lid at the place inside the guide member, and exhaust openings provided outside the outer lid. The means not only collectively exhausts the vapors to be generated during cooking from the exhaust openings but also prevents liquid from the rice being boiled over.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1977Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yasumasa Miki, Hideo Nakanishi

Patent number: 4147096Abstract: A breather vent mountable on the vent pipe outlet from an underground storage tank at a gasoline service station site. A vent housing includes a body section adapted for placement on the vent pipe and which cooperates with a superposed cap section to accommodate a vapor floatable valve disc supported internally thereof. Vapors from the tank can normally discharge in a primary flow path past the valve disc from where it is diverted upwardly by an annular diverging deflector to atmosphere. Displaced apertures having comparatively increased protection against freezeup form an alternative outlet for a secondary flow path diverted downwardly from a location downstream of the valve disc. The latter being better protected against freezing rain, etc. enables continued vent discharge to atmosphere in the event the primary flow path becomes ice blocked.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1977Date of Patent: April 3, 1979Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventor: Richard L.
