Patent number: 8590728Abstract: In some embodiments, a cooking utensil comprises a pot with a lid that divides a cooking chamber in the pot from a condensing chamber above the lid. To prevent boil-over, one or more openings in the lid and/or openings radially between the lid and the pot convey bidirectional flow between the cooking and condensing chambers. Boiling liquid/vapor foam from the cooking chamber flows upward through the opening to the condensing chamber. Upon subsequently flowing across an upper surface of the lid, the liquid/foam condenses and then returns through the opening to the cooking chamber. In some examples, the cookware includes both a mechanical seal and a liquid seal between the lid and the pot. In some embodiments, a single opening in the lid maximizes the lid's condensing surface while still allowing sufficient flow between the cooking and condensing chambers. Such a single opening also makes the cookware easy to clean.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2012Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: MAMC, LLCInventor: Mathew A. McPherson

Patent number: 7909192Abstract: The invention is a vent for use with a container, such as commercial steel pails and drums, and a method for venting containers. The vent has a cap seal with one or more semipermeable membranes covering an orifice in the cap seal. The membrane prevents the passage of at least one atmospheric component, but allows the free passage of air. When a product is filled into the container at an elevated temperature and cools, a vacuum is formed within the container. The resulting vacuum opens a vacuum release device in the vent and pulls air through a hole in the cap seal, which is protected by a micro-porous membrane. The venting of air into the container relieves the vacuum without damage to the container or the product within the container.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2006Date of Patent: March 22, 2011Assignee: Chemtura CorporationInventors: Robert J. Patent number: 7798361Abstract: A container for holding a fluid that includes a hollow body defining an inner volume and an elastomeric membrane that is integrally formed with the hollow body forming a unitary container having a vent area. The vent area vents the inner volume such that air is selectively permitted to flow into the inner volume through the vent area and the fluid contained in the inner volume is substantially prevented from flowing out of the inner volume through the vent area. The elastomeric membrane is co-molded with the hollow body.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2007Date of Patent: September 21, 2010Assignee: Playtex Products, Inc.Inventors: Joseph M. Clark, Richard S. Patent number: 7784630Abstract: There is provided a gasket element having at least one first inner layer and at least one first outer layer. Each of the at least two layers have differing material properties. The gasket element is well suited to cooperate with an ingress/egress opening of a container that in turn is well suited to retain an active pressure and/or temperature sensitive substance. The gasket element may be operatively connected to a cap element that is suitable to selectively close the at least one ingress/egress opening of the container. The cap element may be a stand alone sealing cap or may be operatively associated with a spray nozzle or the like.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2008Date of Patent: August 31, 2010Assignee: Dewall IndustriesInventor: Edward D. Publication number: 20100044372Abstract: A portable and collapsible isolator is taught for containing radioactive, chemical or biological agents. The isolator is comprised of a collapsible frame, movable between a collapsed transport position and an open operational position, and a flexible and collapsible envelope in the form of an airtight bag attached to the frame to define a cavity. The envelope remains airtight in both the collapsed and open positions. One or more sealable openings are formed in the envelope for insertion and removal of the radioactive, chemical and biological agents into and out of the cavity. The isolator may optionally include at least one glove extending from one or more of said sealable openings into the cavity, for handling said radioactive, chemical and biological agents inside the cavity.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 27, 2008Publication date: February 25, 2010Applicant: Her Majesty The Queen in Right of Canada as Represented by the Minister of Public SafetyInventors: Bill Kournikakis, Tim Patraboy, Daniel Perreault, James Peeke, Carl McDiarmid, Ian Summerell, Andrew Burczyk, Marianne Heisz, Pierre Caron, Sylvain Poirier

Publication number: 20100001001Abstract: A venting device that may be used directly with a container or via a vent cap for a container, includes a venting mechanism having one or more collapsible dome structures and an absorbent material to prevent leakage of liquid or flowable contents from within the container. The construction relies on a combination of venting domed structures and expandable absorbent material to seal one or more openings in a container and or cap.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 2, 2009Publication date: January 7, 2010Applicant: Avery Dennison CorporationInventor: David W. Patent number: 7621412Abstract: A method for hot-filling and closing a polymer container is disclosed in which one of the closure for the container and the head space area of the container is provided with a hole covered with a hydrophobic air permeable membrane. The container is then filled with a hot liquid and the filled container is closed but for the air permeable component. The filled container is then cooled with the pressure between the interior of the container and the ambient pressure being equalized due to the air permeable membrane. Subsequent to cooling, an air-tight seal is provided over the membrane-covered hole. An associated container and closure cap is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2003Date of Patent: November 24, 2009Assignee: Stokely-Van Camp, Inc.Inventor: Subodh K. Raniwala

Publication number: 20080283142Abstract: A method and apparatus for delivering biomass fuel to a structure through an external wall of the structure is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a hopper disposed within a delivery vehicle. The hopper includes an inlet disposed on its top surface to receive biomass fuel and an outlet located proximate the bottom of the hopper to release the fuel by opening a gate valve. A delivery hose is connected to the hopper outlet at one end and is sealably connectable at its other end to an externally accessible coupling disposed on an external wall of the structure to which fuel is to be delivered. The coupling is connected on the interior side of the external wall to a delivery pipe that connects to a fuel bin for storing the biomass fuel. Sensors within the bin can signal the operator when the level of fuel within the bin reaches a preselected level, allowing the operator to stop delivery when the bin is full.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 13, 2007Publication date: November 20, 2008Inventors: Charles J. Publication number: 20080251518Abstract: A self-venting cover for a heatable food package comprises a sheet of film having a slit formed therein to permit the passage of steam therethrough. A label is secured to the film for controlling the flow of steam through the opening. The label includes a sheet of material having a first region secured to the film in an area remote from the slit and having a second elongated region covering the slit. The elongated region is only partially secured to the film and forms a vent passage between the unsecured portion of the elongated region and the film itself, which vent passage extends from the slit towards the periphery of the label to permit controlled venting of steam from the opening. The elongated region of the label is relatively narrow and the first region is relatively wide and is located spaced from the opening.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 24, 2006Publication date: October 16, 2008Applicant: FFP PACKAGING SOLUTIONS LIMITEDInventor: Gary Tee
