Having An Outlet Or Inlet Opening (e.g., Bunghole, Etc.) Patents (Class 220/601)
  • Patent number: 5975338
Abstract: The invention relates to a bung drum of thermoplastic synthetic material, having a circumferential carrying and transport ring disposed on the drum wall in the vicinity of the upper end and having at least one bung hole located in the edge region of the upper end. The upper end of the drum has a slope surface on both sides of the bung hole. When seen in the normal position of the barrel, the slope surface slopes downwardly in the direction of the edge of the drum with its lowest point in the vicinity of the bung hole.

  • Patent number: 5975642
Abstract: A system for transporting and unloading dry chemicals in a container including a removable bulk head and a liner. The bulk head has a top and a bottom. The bulk head is tilted when installed in the container such that the top of the bulk head is at the back of the container and the bottom of the bulk head is recessed into the container. The bulk head has an opening at a bottom center portion thereof. The liner has an opening and fits within the container. The liner has a funnel extension fitting through the opening in the bulk head. The funnel extension has a diameter which decreases toward the opening in the liner, with increasing distance from the bulk head. The funnel extension extends across substantially the entire width of the container. The container has a height, and the removable bulk head has a length extending between the top and the bottom, which length is greater than the height of the container. The system also has an adapter which attaches to the liner.

  • Patent number: 5947326
Abstract: A bung comprises a deformable member with a generally cylindrical middle portion generally coinciding with the bunghole when inserted, and upper and lower frusto-conical ends which increase in diameter as each end extends from the middle portion. The middle portion is preferably of a size less than the hole to facilitate insertion of bung into and removal from the bunghole. Where the hole is tapered, the middle portion is similarly tapered. The spool-like shape of the stopper helps to prevent unintentional disengagement of the bung from the hole and to prevent overinsertion of the bung into the hole. The bung may further comprise one or more pull tabs to facilitate removal. The bung may define a bore to allow gas pressure to escape from the container, thus acting as a stopper. A rigid annular insert at the opening of the throughbore prevents deformation of the circular shape of the opening.

  • Patent number: 5941406
Abstract: The object of this invention is a lidded barrel with a barrel lid and a clamping-ring closure. Between its flat lid plate and its outer rim, the barrel lid is provided with a circular, perimetric groove while also featuring in its periphery at least one bung well with or without a bunghole. When a barrel is dropped, the areas around the bung well are most vulnerable to breakage, i.e. it is in these areas that the barrel lid is most likely to slip out of the clamping ring with leaks resulting. In order to improve leak resistance of a lidded barrel, especially one suitable and approved for hazardous liquids, under extreme stress-load conditions, the area around the bung wells of the barrel lid is to be stress-relieved in the event of overstress (dropped barrel).

The easily-breakable member is fit into the opening of the fixing portion such that the end of the peripheral wall portion is directed toward the inside of the vessel, and the end of the peripheral wall portion of the easily-breakable member and the inner end of the wall portion of the fixing portion are welded to each other for sealing the opening.

Abstract: An improved tank bottom configuration formed from a flat metal plate of square or rectangular shape is disclosed. The plate is sheared to provide two adjacent sides which are tapered along their lengths and a notch is cut in each corner portion. By the use of stop and die members, the plate member is deformed to provide a bottom wall portion which slopes downwardly toward one corner and upwardly extending side wall portions which extend around the periphery of the bottom wall portion. A drain opening and a crease are formed in the bottom wall portion, with the crease being aligned with and spaced from the drain opening.

Abstract: A stackable composite container consists of a cylindrical inner container having walls of a thickness capable of fully supporting the pressures of any contained liquid and an outer container enclosing the inner container and being of rectangular cross-section and of a strength adequate for withstanding stacking pressures but inadequate for withstanding the pressures of the contained liquid in the absence of the inner container. The outer container is provided with a plurality of spaced inwardly projecting ribs in supportive contact with the outer wall of the inner container. The base of the outer container has fork-lift tine pockets. There is a means for filling the inner container, and a means for emptying the inner container, both means being accessible from the outer container exterior.

  • Patent number: 5413240
Abstract: A drum closure system is provided for protecting the integrity of the threads of a drum neck and for providing the safe and easy installation of a replaceable closure neck. The drum closure system primarily comprises a drum with a drum neck integrally formed in the drum top, a closure plug, a replaceable closure neck which is interposed threadably between the drum neck and the closure plug, and a specialized tool for installing and removing the replaceable closure neck. The use of the tool, which is designed to enable exertion of very high levels of torque on the replaceable neck, eliminates the need for a locking mechanism between the replaceable neck and drum neck because insertion of the replaceable neck at a high torque measurement virtually eliminates the possibility of relative rotation of the replaceable neck without the specialized tool. Installation of the closure plug makes the removal of the replaceable neck virtually impossible.

One end wall has a peripheral channel opening into a sump from which substantially all the of liquid in the drum can be removed through a dip tube received in the sump and connected to a siphon or a pump. The other end wall has another sump located adjacent the sidewall with a tapered portion extending between them so that when the barrel is turned upside down substantially all of its contents can be drained by gravity through a bunghole in the sump. A plug is removably threaded in the bunghole which preferably overlaps and is generally axially aligned with the sump in the other end wall to facilitate inserting the dip tube.

Abstract: A flange fitting for attaching to the lid of a drum includes a seal tube having a generally cylindrical main body with a relatively thin wall arid an outwardly radiating frustoconical lip extension. Also included as part of the flange fitting is a standard drum plug flange having a generally cylindrical main body and an outwardly radiating, frustoconical lip. The drum plug flange is sized and shaped so as to fit within the seal tube such that the lip extension and the lip are generally coextensive with each other. These two components are then able to be anchored into the lid of the drum through a punch press operation which simultaneously clamps and crimps both the lip and lip extension into a raised boss recess thereby precluding any preassembly, such as by welding, of the seal tube and drum flange prior to assembly to the drum lid.
