  • Patent number: 5803298
Abstract: A lid retainer is provided for a "paint can" type container having a lid that is secured to the top wall thereof by multi-friction fit. The lid retainer is composed of a high tensile strength, impact resistant polymer material having limited flexible and defines a circular body section with a circular lid retainer flange and a circular locking flange projection downwardly from respective inner and outer radial extents of the circular body section. The locking flange has a radially inwardly extending locking projection having a downwardly and radially inwardly facing can surface disposed for camming engagement with the circular bead that interconnects the side and top walls of the container and induces yielding of the retainer flange as the locking projection passes over the circular bead.

  • Patent number: 5779093
Abstract: A paint can guard is mounted on a sealing rim of a paint can. The paint can guard includes an annular rim guard for covering the sealing rim of the paint can, an annular brush wiper having an inner surface and an outer surface, and a plurality of struts coupled between the rim guard and the wiper for supporting the wiper in spaced relation to the rim guard. A substantially annular passage is defined between the outer surface of the wiper and the rim guard. Paint from a brush wiped on the wiper may flow on the inner surface of the wiper into the paint can. The brush can also be wiped on the upper or lower edge of the wiper. Paint that drips or spills outwardly of the wiper may flow through the passage between the outer surface of the wiper and the rim guard into the paint can, thus avoiding spillage.

  • Patent number: 5683009
Abstract: Small, lightweight metal cans such as coffee or peanut cans are easily recycled but are frequently not recycled or reused. One secondary use of these metal cans is for painting applications such as trim painting. The accessory disclosed herein enables metal cans of the aforementioned type, typically having a continuous bead around the apex end of the can, to be easily utilized for such painting applications. The reusable accessory comprises a handle having an upper and lower end and a grippable portion disposed between them. A lid is hingedly attached to the upper end of the handle, the lid having an upper and lower surface, the lower surface having at least one continuous lip suitable to engage the bead of the can. Additionally, the lid has a cutout through which a paint brush may pass which is particularly configured so as to enable a paint brush to hang suspended in the can from the lid. The can is secured to the handle by a variety of mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 5676990
Abstract: A food wiping condiment container for removing excess condiment from a food article after being dipped thereinto. The condiment container has a body, a thin, flexible cap sealingly attached to the body, and a tear-away strip attached to the cap. When the tear-away strip is torn from the cap, a slit is formed in the cap with mutually opposed slit edges. When a food article is partially inserted into the condiment container through the slit, the slit edges of the cap wipe against the food article. Accordingly, after the food article is partially dipped into a condiment stored inside the condiment container, the slit edges of the cap wipe against the food article to limit the thickness of condiment adhering to the food article as it is moved therepast.

  • Patent number: 5568879
Abstract: A paint can attachment 10 is for use on all nominal sized paint cans and the like. It is designed to snap-fit on top of a paint can 12 to protect the lid receiving groove 20 of the paint can 12 from paint during painting. The main part of the paint can attachment 10 has the shape of an annular ring 26. Its conical inner wall 38 can receive paint can lids of various sizes. A lid-sized elastic band 52 is used to press the original lid 12 against the conical inner wall 38 to keep the contents in a useable condition. A flexible annular ledge 40 provides for its lower part 42 to sealingly engage the inner peripheral bead 16 of the paint can 12. Due to a predeterminate width of the lower part 42 of the annular ledge 40, this lower part 42 always sits on the top of the inner peripheral bead 16 of the paint can 12, even though there are variations in diameter of the opening of the paint can 12. The paint can attachment 10 also provides a spout 54 which can be used in pouring as well as to rest a paint brush 64.

  • Patent number: 5161689
Abstract: A rim seal for use with containers for paint having an upstanding rim at one end and a groove located radially inwardly of the rim defined in part by an inner terminal edge. The rim seal includes an annular top section disposed generally transverely to the axis of a container and providing a planar support surface when assembled to a container. An inner wall section extends downwardly at an angle from the inner peripheral edge of the top section terminating in a radially inwardly directed rib adapted to overlie and seal with the edge of the container. Also, an angular outer section depending from the outer peripheral edge of the top section includes a radial section defining a ledge, and a lower terminal axially extending wall terminating and having an inwardly directed radial circumferentially extending rib. Application of an axial force on the top section produces outward flexing of the inner and outer sections whereby the rim seal can be applied to a container by automatic assembly means.
