  • Patent number: 9977873
Abstract: A process of safe, secure storage and transfer of prescription medications for patient care in a hospital, clinic, nursing home, or similar health care facility, permits the authorized user to obtain medications for multiple patients along a patient care route, place the medications in respective locking compartments for each patient, and bring the cart to each patient in turn to administer the medications. Scanning in the user ID opens the cart, and the ward or floor medications cabinet displays a 2-D bar code containing patient identification data, the user identification, and one or more delimiter characters indicating that the medication was transferred by the authorized user directly to the cart. For each patient, a patient specific drawer or compartment is unlocked and opened, and the medications are placed into it. This is repeated for each patient on the care route. At each patient bedside, the user scans in the patient ID, which opens only the patient specific drawer.

  • Patent number: 9968522
Abstract: A medicine container timing apparatus and method of use. The apparatus includes a container, a tilt switch, an electronic timer, and cap with a flange. Within the tilt switch are a gravity response member and a pair of electrical contacts. The cap flange extends into the tilt switch chamber and prevents the electrical contacts resetting the timer by forming a supporting barrier between the contacts and gravity response member. If a user tilts the container when the cap is off, the gravity response member falls onto the pair of electric contacts and resets the electronic timer. However, if the cap is on the container, the flange prevents the gravity response member from causing the electrical contacts to contact each other. The electronic timer therefore only displays the time since the container was last tilted with its cap off.

Abstract: Systems and methods for preventing a container from being replenished with the wrong medicine are described. This is achieved by the following process: first, a user places a container on a placement unit and reads a symbol attached to a bottle. Then, a determination is made so as to whether the medicine in the bottle is the correct medicine. If the medicine is incorrect, a message indicating the medicine is incorrect is displayed. If the medicine is correct, a camera records video of the medicine replenishment operation. Once the medicine replenishment is completed, a photographed image of the medicine inside the container and an image of the correct medicine for replenishing the container are displayed. Then, the user views these images and confirms whether the medicine used to replenish the container was correct. If this confirmation is not completed, the medicine dispensing device will not dispense medicine from the container.

Abstract: An audio signal analysis method is provided for detecting the opening and closing of a medicine bottle cap in a robust manner using a micro speaker and a microphone along with associated mixed signal electronics. It is also used for robust tamper detection and for monitoring liquid medication consumption accurately. In a preferred embodiment an un-modulated OFDM signal is used that covers the entire operating audio spectrum. In another embodiment, Complimentary code based phase encoding of the subcarrier phases is used to reduce the peak to average power of the OFDM signal, thereby enabling higher transmit power of the audio signal to mitigate against interference. A suitable wireless device can be co-located with the mixed signal electronics for sending the bottle usage, medication reminder alarm, and tamper status to the medication compliance monitoring system or to the user's cell phone.
