  • Patent number: 7082262
Abstract: A manifold for a liquid material dispenser has a unitary manifold body with process air and liquid material passages formed therethrough. Heaters for heating the process air and liquid material are both coupled directly to the manifold body and cooperate to simultaneously heat both the air and liquid material. The air and liquid material heaters may be arranged in either a generally vertical orientation, or a horizontal orientation with respect to the manifold body. In one embodiment, the process air heater includes a cylindrical member which is substantially exposed to the process air to optimize heat transfer from the cylindrical member to the process air.

  • Patent number: 6820637
Abstract: An improved water heater is proved, particularly for marine use, wherein a heated liquid, such as engine coolant, flows to a heat exchanger in a water tank to heat the water therein. The improvement comprises a check valve assembly in the engine coolant line to control the flow of coolant to the heat exchanger, and thereby control the temperature of the water. As the water temperature increases, the check valve moves towards a closed position to reduce and ultimately stop the flow of heated engine coolant to the heat exchanger. As the water temperature decreases, the poppet valve moves toward and open position, so as to increase the flow of engine coolant to the heat exchanger, and thereby further heat the water. The water temperature is sensed by a wax actuator within the check valve which expands in response to increased water temperatures and contracts in response to decreased water temperatures.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a portable adhesive dispensing appliance with adjustable duty cycle. Rather than applying power continuously to the heating element, the element power is intermittently switched over to a variable duty cycle. Savings are gained in three areas: extended life of the element; less heat lost to thermal radiation; and less adhesive waste due to dripping and overheating. The duty cycle may be adjusted manually or automatically based on the temperature of the adhesive in the melt chamber. Additionally, the voltage and/or current to the heating element may be adjusted, either manually or automatically, for more rapid recovery during high usage periods. Higher throughput is achieved by sensing the temperature, comparing the temperature to a desired temperature, and then increasing the duty cycle by either or both one of increasing the frequency of duty pulses and/or lengthening the duration of the duty pulses.

Abstract: A dispensing system including a housing with an interior bulkhead and four progressive cavity pumps mounted within the housing on one side of the bulkhead. The pumps are mounted with the bores in vertical orientation. Gear boxes including bevel gears coupling the vertically mounted pumps with horizontally mounted motors located on the other side of the interior bulkhead. A dispensing head is located above the housing with outlet passages extending from the motors to the dispensing head defining a path to the dispensing head which is continuously upward. The dispensing head includes valves driven by a pneumatic cylinder. A solenoid controls flow of pressurized air to the pneumatic cylinder from a position adjacent the dispensing head on the boom supporting both.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for preparing and dispensing a combination of food products in a vending machine from a selection of components prepackaged in a plurality of trays sealed with a single peel off tape. The method comprises dispensing a top component onto a positioning releasable support and moving it into an oven, independently dispensing a tray with bottom component, sliding it to and raising into a moveable oven, independently heating components, removing components from ovens, moving said moveable oven out of the tray path, moving components to close proximity of each other and releasing top component into the tray. The apparatus has means for dispensing each of the individual components toward front of said vending machine; means for three-dimensional positioning of the releasable support for top components; means for bottom component tray lateral displacement; stationary oven, moveable oven, and an elevator laterally aligned with said product delivery opening.

  • Patent number: 6371174
Abstract: An adhesive supply unit for melting solid and quasi/solid materials, such as polyurethane (PUR) and other hot melt adhesives, is disclosed. The unit features an air control system that automatically starts, when the hopper lid is closed, to remove moisture from the moisture laden air in the hopper interior by alternately applying a vacuum to the hopper interior and then replacing the air with plant air that has passed through a series of dryers and filters. The dryers/filters, valving mechanisms and tubing are mounted directly to the machine body with a panel bolted to the machine, eliminating the need for storing the air control system on a separate cart. A sensor verifies that the hopper lid is securely closed before automatically initiating the drying/purging cycles which are repeated a number of times to assure appropriate dehumidification of air to acceptable levels.

  • Patent number: 6196422
Abstract: This invention provides a system and a method of economically dispensing hot beverages at precise temperature ranges in a continuous manner suitable for large-scale high-volume usage. An on-demand heater is used to heat water to a preset temperature range. The hot water is circulated to a dispensing head and recirculated back to the heater by a recirculation pump to provide a continuous flow of hot water. A supply of beverage concentrate is flowed into the dispensing head by a peristaltic pump. Upon activation of a button, the hot water is flowed into a nozzle of the dispensing head to create a vortex-like flow. The beverage concentrate is injected into the vortex-like flow and mixed with the hot water to form the hot beverage which is dispensed from the dispensing head.
