Patent number: 5657908Abstract: An apparatus for dispensing an aerosol container's pressurized fluid contents includes a base; a first, outer sleeve mounted on the base; a second, inner sleeve nested within the outer sleeve and defining a bore adapted to receive the container; and a plurality of retainers pivotally mounted to the base within the outer sleeve so as to move from a radially inward position to a radially outward position relative to the centerline of the two sleeves. The inner sleeve is biased away from the base by a first spring, such that a first internal camming surface on the inner sleeve engages each retainer to urge it radially inwardly into engagement with the container's external curl upon advancement of the container into the nested sleeves, thereby securing the container proximate to the base. Upon moving the inner sleeve towards the base, the sleeve's first internal camming surface disengages the retainers to permit their radial expansion and, hence, the release of the container's external curl.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1995Date of Patent: August 19, 1997Assignee: Scott Specialty Gases, Inc.Inventor: John W. Patent number: 4944429Abstract: A spraying apparatus is disclosed which employs a manually operable pump adapted to discharge a dosage of a liquid, such as a pharmaceutical preparation, from an associated container. The pump includes a reciprocating stem which extends through a screw cap of the container. An actuator is mounted on the stem of the pump for conjoint reciprocating movement therewith relative to the screw cap. Upon the extension of the actuator and hence the stem, liquid is withdrawn from the container by the pump. Upon the depression of the actuator and hence the stem, the liquid is delivered to a spray nozzle formed integrally with the actuator and then discharged from the nozzle in the form of a spray or mist. In order to ensure the smooth and effective operation of the spraying apparatus, lugs on the actuator cooperate with ribs on the screw cap to inhibit the actuator from rocking on the stem as the actuator is depressed.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1987Date of Patent: July 31, 1990Assignee: Schering CorporationInventors: Keith H.
