  • Patent number: 4715518
Abstract: In a manually operated dispenser especially suited for striped toothpaste products and the like the reciprocable pumping piston is provided with a concave, product-engaging face that gently, yet forcibly, directs the product in a smooth, laminar flow out of the pump chamber and into the discharge spout when the piston is depressed through a pumping stroke so that stripes in the ribbon of toothpaste issuing from the spout are well defined and maintained in an aesthetically pleasing manner. The cooperating floating takeup piston at the opposite end of the chamber from the pumping piston is provided with a convex dome that becomes complementally received within the concavity of the pumping piston when the contents of the dispenser are nearly depleted, thereby maximizing the degree to which the dispenser is emptied.

  • Patent number: 4632284
Abstract: A seeding device to dispense seed suspended in a gel or other carrier medium in either a continuous stream or discrete pulses. A coulter opens a furrow of earth to the proper depth and seed carried in a gel or other suspension medium is delivered in a pulsed or continuous stream into the furrow which is then covered with earth by a trailing coverer. An auger delivers the seed in suspension and the speed of the auger is controlled to vary the volume of seed and gel or other suspension medium delivered. Circumferentially spaced cam lobes on a drive wheel control the frequency and therefore the row spacing of the seed suspension medium distributed in the pulse delivery mode.

  • Patent number: 4589574
Abstract: Serrations on the upper end of the pump body are disposed for interlocking engagement with depending portions of the pump collar so that when the plunger is rotated in a counterclockwise direction to unlock the same from the collar in preparation for reciprocal operation, the collar is held securely by the body against rotation to assure unlocking. The serrations take the form of a plurality of equally circumferentially spaced ramps which are inclined in the direction of locking rotation of the plunger to thereby permit the collar to yieldably override the serrations when the locked plunger and collar are rotated as a unit in the locking direction relative to the body to orient a spout of the plunger in a desired location for factory packaging efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4442958
Abstract: A container for holding a viscous liquid medium and from which the same may be selectively dispensed in a desired amount includes a rigid body having a deformable top portion and carrying a dispensing mouthpiece. The application of an inwardly-directed force to the mouthpiece deforms the container top portion and causes displacement of the mouthpiece partially into the container interior such that valve openings in the mouthpiece that are normally disposed sealingly within a valve body in the interior of the container are carried to a position remote from and clear of the valve body to clear the valve openings and permit a dispensing flow of liquid through the mouthpiece and thereby out of the container body.

  • Patent number: 4433799
Abstract: A liquid-dispensing pump arrangement permits positive setting into various full-stroke, stroke limited, and off positions by rotation of the dispensing head thereof. The arrangement includes a reciprocating pump having a dip tube, a pump body, and a depressible stem and which is supported in a screw cap or other closure. A pedestal on the screw cap has longitudinal detents on a circumferential surface thereof, and also has a helical ramp thereon extending at least part way around the stem. A finger-depressible push-button dispensing head atop the stem has a radial outlet nozzle and a depending skirt which overlaps the circumferential surface of the pedestal. Fins or vanes on the skirt are spaced apart and engage the detents on the pedestal. The vanes are resiliently flexible and normally engage the cutout detents to establish each rotational position, but can be deflected by manually turning the dispenser head so that the latter can be easily rotated to another desired position.
