  • Patent number: 4826053
Abstract: When using cartridges with delivery plungers, the afterflow of the cartridge content after the action on the piston has stopped, is annoying and undesirable. In a dispenser for such cartridges, which has a ram to act upon the piston as well as a mechanism for driving the ram forward, this drawback is eliminated by the action of at least one retrieval element which is frictionally guided on a ram. The retrieval element is movable longitudinally (distance s) relative to the dispenser body and by way of retrieval springs, engaging at the retrieval element, loadable through the forward drive mechanism. In this way, immediately after each completion of the forward drive of the ram, the ram is guided back and the cartridge plunger as well as the releasable connection between cartridge and dispenser is reduced with respect to stress. This construction has application to dispensers for a single cartridge as well as for double (two-component) cartridges.

  • Patent number: 4271990
Abstract: This pumping system provides a continuous discharge of flowable product withdrawn from a container into a pressurizing chamber and pumped by a pressurizing piston there into a storage chamber just ahead of a stationary discharge nozzle. A spring acts on an accumulator piston in the storage chamber to maintain a more uniform pressure on the product there at different times in each operating cycle so as to obtain a substantially non-pulsating discharge of the product. The accumulator piston tends to move in the same direction as the pressurizing piston due to a frictional coupling acting on the accumulator piston. Air is more easily purged from this pumping system.

  • Patent number: 4260082
Abstract: A manually operated, hand-held rechargeable liquid dispensing container device having a non-pressurized, either refillable or non-refillable receptacle or reservoir, is disclosed. The device comprises a relatively reciprocating piston and cylinder defining a pressurizable chamber therebetween which can be charged with liquid from the receptacle or reservoir in the container. The piston or cylinder is reciprocated relative to the other by a charging system connected to either one which compresses a resilient means such as a spring while simultaneously drawing liquid into the chamber through a check valve at the entrance of the liquid chamber. When the chamber is charged with liquid, hydraulic pressure is exerted upon the liquid by the now compressed spring. An improved charging system permits the hydraulic pressure application to be delayed until the check valve closes, insuring a full charge in the pressurizing chamber.

  • Patent number: 4243159
Abstract: A spring actuated pump device is mounted on a container for fluids, the device including a pump chamber into which fluid from the container can flow, the spring expanding and forcing a cylinder structure against the fluid in the chamber to pressurize it, in order that opening of a discharge valve will effect spraying of a desired quantity of fluid from the device, a suitable nut being threadedly connected to the cylinder structure to enable such structure to be shifted axially, in response to rotation of the nut relative to the container and cylinder structure, to compress the spring and store additional fluid pressure energy therein. A check valve permits ambient air to enter the container to prevent a vacuum condition from developing therein as fluid is withdrawn therefrom. Moreover, fluid is prevented from dribbling from the discharge valve of the device as the spring nears the end of its expansion range.

  • Patent number: 4231493
Abstract: A pumping system is provided in which actuation of a piston and cylinder device is provided by a combination of a button and a lever. The lever magnifies the force applied to the button so that the pumping system operates at high pressure when pumping liquid product. On the other hand, when pumping air in priming the pump, the pumping system operates at very low pressure so that air can escape from the pump easily to aid in priming the pump.

  • Patent number: RE30566
Abstract: A manually operated, hand-held liquid spraying device which includes a non-pressurized, refillable or non-refillable container, is disclosed. The sprayer is a completely contained device wherein an internal cam in one part of the device which is rotated, causes a displacement of a piston, a part of which is a cam follower. Piston displacement vacates a chamber which is simultaneously charged with liquid. The piston is moved as a result of the cammed motion against a responsor biasing it. The biased responsor generates a hydraulic pressure on the liquid now in the chamber vacated by the piston, since a check valve traps the liquid in the chamber. The liquid is released from the chamber by depressing a push button device, which action uncovers a port in an outlet conduit permitting liquid to flow from the chamber through the conduit and out through a flow connected nozzle in response to the responsor-urged piston moving down through the liquid in the chamber. .Iadd.

  • Patent number: RE33235
Abstract: A liquid dispensing pump in the form of a trigger sprayer includes a thimble-shaped valving element containing inlet and outlet valves, and located within a cylindrical portion of the pump body. In one embodiment, a pressure accumulation chamber is defined between the pump body and the valving element, and a pump piston operates within the valving element and defines therewith a pump chamber in open communication with the accumulation chamber via spaced, flexible and extendable straps which interconnect the inlet and outlet valves for permitting a portion of the valving element to move axially into a discharge valve opening position. Vent valving is effected by either the pump piston or the valving element during inward reciprocation movement of the piston. In another embodiment, the sprayer is converted into a throttle pump by the provision of a pump piston which operates within the cylindrical portion of the pump body.
