  • Patent number: 4875601
Abstract: A cut-off nozzle for use in dispensing increments of flowable products comprised of a liquid medium in which solids are dispersed, particularly burrito fillings. The cut-off nozzle structure incorporates a light-weight slide member which is shuttled with fast movement between "open" and "close" positions within a chamber having outlet openings in the bottom with which discharge openings in the slide member register or coincide when the slide member is shuttled to its "open" position. The geometry of the chamber-outlet and slide-discharge openings combines with the fast closing action of the slide to provide a sharp positive cut-off of increments of product dispensed from the nozzle with elimination of leakage or drip, plugging and separation of product constituents. The nozzle may be fed with a single stream of product or with two different streams.

  • Patent number: 4867346
Abstract: A mixing and dispensing apparatus for mutually reactive chemicals. The apparatus includes a mixing chamber having a core of inexpensive monolithic design with a reciprocal. The core and purging rod are readily detachable as a unit from the remainder of the apparatus. The purging rod does not perform a valving function, and therefore significant compressive force does not need to be maintained on the mixing chamber core. The apparatus includes separate valves for each of the reactive components remote from the mixing chamber bore which are automatically opened after retraction of the purging rod, so that the chemicals are not maintained under pressure adjacent the purging rod. A visible indication of the amount of useful life remaining for the mixing chamber is also provided.

  • Patent number: 4865458
Abstract: Apparatus for mixing granules of different colors for use in surfacing for example asphalt shingles in which the valve opening is controlled automatically, the valve being opened by a drive having a fixed valve opening travel and the different valve open positions being determined by intially presetting the valve opening drive by operating it a predetermined amount from a home position in the direction opposite from the valve opening direction, reversing the drive motor to return it to the home position while recording the motion as a part of the fixed valve opening motion, and reenergizing the drive to complete the valve opening motion. The apparatus is also adapted to be operated manually in the event of a malfunction or power failure and it is provided with diamond-shaped orifices whereby the valve opening is a function of the square of the percent of valve travel to provide more accurate control in the low valve opening ranges.

  • Patent number: 4852766
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically dispensing a liquid into a container comprises a housing containing a supply of containers, a source of liquid to be dispensed, and a container well having an opening for receiving and supporting a container during dispensing of the liquid. Containers are delivered one at a time from the container supply to the container well and the liquid is dispensed from the liquid source into a container supported in the container well. A support member is supported by the housing for pivotal movement. A blocking member is secured to the support member distal from the point at which the support member is pivotally connected to the housing for movement with the support member between an operative position and an inoperative position. The blocking member is at least slightly larger than the container well opening so that the blocking member blocks access to the interior of the housing when in the operative position.

  • Patent number: 4580698
Abstract: A gate-type feeder control system has level and weight sensors for monitoring the output of the system to a conveyor or other receiver, an electronic control circuit responsive to the sensors, and a hydraulic actuator circuit including a plurality of valves to provide the desired output of a feeder gate. In the electronic circuit, a master set point signal is entered and compared with the output signal from the sensors. The output flow to the receiver of the system is continuously adjusted by a deviation controller to reduce the deviation in these two signals. Erratic changes in system output are avoided by a deadband circuit introduced into the electronic circuitry to buffer excessive oscillation, overresponse and even instability caused by transient size change and lumping associated with bulk materials. The electronic circuit also includes an averaging module to average the level/weight of the material being discharged to obviate responding to peak levels.

  • Patent number: 4570824
Abstract: An improved air freshener dispenser is activated by the signal transmitted along a home doorbell actuation line. The air freshener is located at a convenient location for spraying an amount of an aerosol air freshener into an entry or desired public area of a home or house. The actuation mechanism is connected to the doorbell system for the house. In operation a guest, or other person entering the home, will in practice ring the doorbell releasing a metered amount of the aerosol air freshener which will have had time to disburse throughout the area concerned at approximately the time the guest enters.

  • Patent number: 4561467
Abstract: A valve assembly including three separate gate valves aligned serially with one another and a mechanical linkage for operating the three separate gates in coordination with one another to permit small pieces of lumpy or granular and particulate solid materials to flow under influence of gravity through the three valves from a low pressure zone into a high pressure zone, without reverse flow of material from the high pressure zone to the low pressure zone. Each gate is biased to a closed condition and provides a substantially airtight seal when it is closed to prevent reverse flow from the high pressure zone to the low pressure zone. A mechanical linkage opens the first and last gates simultaneously and alternatingly opens the middle gate when the first and last gates are closed.

  • Patent number: 4524802
Abstract: A novel improved pinch valve for controlling the flow of fluids in an unrestricted manner in, at least, two flexible tubes, including a housing for holding a solenoid coil between its outer wall and inner cylindrical core member. The solenoid armature is a truncated cone shape which coacts with a similarly shaped opening at the end of the inner cylindrical core member to optimize the flux path of the solenoid and thus its efficiency. A tube retention member includes openings for holding the flexible tubes. A further opening in the tube retention member holds a plunger member which is captured by a retaining pin. The plunger member is secured to the solenoid armature prior to assembly of the tube retention member to the solenoid housing. The plunger member moves with the armature as the solenoid is energized and deenergized. When the solenoid is unenergized, one of the flexible tubes is compressed between a knife like edge on the plunger member and a body portion of other tube retention member.

  • Patent number: 4508071
Abstract: This invention relates to a canister retainer assembly for holding an aerosol canister of starting fluid in an upright position against a mechanical or an electrical valve. This canister retainer assembly is comprised of an adapter and a canister holder. The adapter is securely attached at one end to the mechanical or electrical valve and is opened at the other end. Located near the open end of the adapter is an attachment means, such as internal threads. The canister holder, which is comprised of a hollow tubular member with an open end and a closed end, is designed to be joined to the adapter by external attachment means. Such an assembly is capable of both holding an aerosol canister in an upright position against a diesel engine and of being inverted to seal off the inlet opening of the mechanical or electrical valve when no canister is present.
