  • Patent number: 6003734
Abstract: A refrigerator has a cold water storage vessel mounted on an interior side of a door of the refrigerator. The vessel has a valve for opening and closing a water outlet thereof. A manually actuable lever mounted on the door is actuable by a user to discharge water. By actuating the lever, a magnetic force causes the valve to open. The magnetic force can be imposed by a first permanent magnet which is caused to approach a second permanent magnet disposed on the valve to repel the second magnet and thereby open the valve. Alternatively, a permanent magnet disposed on the valve can be repelled by a magnetic force of a stationary electromagnet which is energized by actuation of the lever.

  • Patent number: 5615804
Abstract: A dispensing gun for fluent products such as viscous adhesives and sealants. The gun includes a removably mounted nozzle and fittings for attachment to a product source such as a can or a hose. A valve body has product inlet and outlet passages with flow being controlled therethrough by a valve that includes a nose portion seated in the valve body, and a rod that extends through the nose portion of the valve and seats on tapered surfaces inside the end of the nozzle. The valve contains a shrouded internal spring biasing the valve to a closed position. A trigger engages the yoke carrying the valve and the valving rod and moves the yoke so that the rod and valve move between open, closed and intermediate positions. In one preferred form, the valving rod may be adjusted between positions wherein more or less product is dispensed in response to full trigger movement.

  • Patent number: 5560522
Abstract: A fluid dispensing valve for a liquid container having a pouring spout is formed by an inner sleeve axially connected to the spout of a liquid container. The other end of the inner sleeve is closed and provided with wall outlet ports. An outer sleeve slidably surrounds the closed end portion of the inner sleeve for covering and uncovering the inner sleeve wall ports. The outwardly flared end of a funnel-type tube secured to the periphery of the outer sleeve projects beyond the closed end of the inner sleeve for entering a port of a receiving vessel at its other end portion. The valve is opened by axial force applied to the inner sleeve opposite its closed end which moves relative to the outer sleeve and uncovers the wall ports. Releasing the axial pressure on the inner sleeve allows a spring interposed between a shoulder or the inner sleeve and adjacent end of the outer sleeve to bias the latter toward and cover the inner sleeve ports.

  • Patent number: 5551605
Abstract: The disclosed invention is directed to a sealing and dispensing apparatus that is used to preserve the contents of a carbonated beverage container which contains a threaded adapter which replaces the screw cap of the container. The adapter contains a central opening in the form of an elongated channel which at its top end is connected to a novel valving mechanism which controls the flow of the pressurized liquid from the carbonated beverage container. The opposite or lower end of the central opening is connected to one end of a flexible elongated tube which is sealably connected to the central opening with the robe containing a weight at its free end. A valve assembly containing a novel plunger mechanism in combination with a biasing spring operates to effectively seal the central opening in a closed position to prevent any liquid flow, and when activated by digital pressure, provides a controlled uninterrupted flow of carbonated beverage through a flow path, passed the plunger, and out of a discharge spout.

  • Patent number: 5516005
Abstract: A defense device, mounted on a wrist watch and made part of it, has a gas chamber underneath the wrist watch. The chamber, containing pressurized repellant gas, is locked to the watch with an interlocking ring between the watch and the gas chamber. The gas can be released by a user by pushing a trigger end of a pin to actuate the release of the gas at the other end, where a nozzle discharges the gas sideways in a wide spray impinging on an incoming attacker. The invention is formed to blend inconspicuously with the design of the watch, so as to prevent the incoming attacker from knowing of the device. A user of the device may pretend to read the time, while in reality releasing the repellant gas from the side of the hand to the incoming attacker. The interlocking ring has an aperture at the top to accommodate a wrist watch, and an aperture at the bottom to accept a matching gas chamber and lock it into position, ready for firing.

  • Patent number: 5507414
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for dispensing liquid cleaning substances and is particularly useful for dispensing dishwashing detergents. The device is formed with a base and a means for supporting a liquid detergent container above the base. This support may take the form of an encircling wall that defines an enclosure for a pump style detergent container having a laterally projecting spout mounted in its mouth, or an upright stanchion that holds a detergent container at an elevated level above the base. In either event the device is provided with a concave, upwardly facing liquid detergent receptacle located atop the base and directly beneath the dispensing orifice of the liquid detergent container. A sponge support is formed atop the liquid detergent receptacle. The sponge support may include a mesh screen and is hinged relative to the base to rotate about a horizontal axis.

  • Patent number: 5482190
Abstract: A filling trough/dispensing cap for a filling/dispensing opening at a lower end of an elongated liquid container is disclosed. The filling trough/dispensing cap includes a retractable/extensible liquid filling trough that extends through the filling/dispensing opening of the container and is movable to a retracted position with the container or an extensible position outside the container. When moved to the extensible position, the retractable/extensible liquid filling trough facilitates filling of the container. The retractable/extensible filling trough can be rotated and/or angularly positioned relative to the container to facilitate filling. A dispensing cap is associated with the outer end of the retractable/extensible liquid filling trough for covering the filling/dispensing opening when the retractable/extensible trough is retracted. This dispensing cap includes a selective liquid dispenser for dispensing liquid from the container, as desired.
